Is this the most overused word on Mumsnet which isn’t heard in RL? What other words or expressions do you only hear on here? (Lighthearted)

OP posts:
Nannewnannew · 22/05/2020 07:35

Big girl pants 🤨

Flippetydip · 22/05/2020 07:39

"Give your head a wobble"

Hate it, don't know why it just "makes my teeth itch" or as most normal people say, it really irritates me.

welldonesquirrels · 22/05/2020 07:46

Biscuit this emoji

Marlena1 · 22/05/2020 08:13

My DH is awful because of X,Y,Z but an "amazing" dad. I just never understand that (when most of X,Y,Z overlaps to parenting)!

FergusSingsTheBlues · 22/05/2020 08:21

everybody has "an ancient" car, dog, home, fur coat.

very much used as a status signaller

redcarbluecar · 22/05/2020 08:27

What on earth possessed you to start this post, OP? I'm astounded that you thought it would be OK.

Sertchgi123 · 22/05/2020 08:31

I like some of these, especially “big girl pants”.

CakeCakeCake21 · 22/05/2020 08:32

“You do realise that”.... I absolutely and irrationally hate that phrase. It isn’t just on MN but it is where I see it most and have never heard anyone say it in real life.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 22/05/2020 08:33

Wind your neck in.

Hate that one. It’s so dismissive.

TabbyMumz · 22/05/2020 08:34

"Have some compassion."

TabbyMumz · 22/05/2020 08:35

" give your head a wobble"

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/05/2020 08:36

Judgy pants, hoiking up of.

Whoever started that one is another candidate for my rat-infested dungeon.
And ‘judgy’, while I’m at it.

saraclara · 22/05/2020 08:36

Raging. I've never heard anyone say that in real life, where people get 'really annoyed' at worst.

And I'm so sick of seeing narcissist and narc thrown around like confetti.

DGenX · 22/05/2020 08:38

You ok hun?

Get your ducks in a row.

I also dislike things like I earned these stripes and blood is thicker than water. It’s so cringe!

LolaDarkdestroyer · 22/05/2020 08:40

Gives me the rage, fuck off.

butterpuffed · 22/05/2020 08:41

'I didn't want to read and run'

Yes you did, you just felt like doing a post which meant nothing.

'I laughed so hard I snorted tea out of my nose'

Yeh, sure you did.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 22/05/2020 08:41

‘Thick as mince’ is the one that’s come on recently.
Usually used to describe a politician people don’t agree with who has multiple degrees.

EagleSqueak · 22/05/2020 08:44

‘And I say this as’ Sounds so bloody pompous.

In real life I hate ‘at all’. As in, ‘do you want any sauce with that at all?’, do you want a drink at all?’, ‘would you want a bag at all?’

butterpuffed · 22/05/2020 08:44

Forgot this one..

'Your DH is cheating , so sorry'

Faux sympathy , usually said with no basis whatsoever.

cushioncovers · 22/05/2020 08:44

Makes my teeth itch

IckyIsAFuckingStupidWord · 22/05/2020 08:48

Baffled
Shocked
Outraged
Seething
Anxiety
Anyone who states they are “shaking” with something (eg rage)
Golly

Hmm
SerenDippitty · 22/05/2020 08:49

'I didn't want to read and run'

I literally do not see the point of that one. What does it add? Why not just post the reply without saying it?

notacooldad · 22/05/2020 08:51

The words that I don't like on here are 'naice' and ' yummy'
Naice and the story behind that was slightly amusing about 10 years ago for one post but now people actually use it as a word. They ask about 'naice' areas to live!

With the word 'yummy' I just think ' grow up, you are not 5! I almost except them to say the child like rhyme ' 'yummy, yummy, in my tummy!'

I think I'd rather they described the food as ' naice!!'

sauvignonblancplz · 22/05/2020 08:53

“I mean this in the kindest/gentlest way possible...” It’s the same as saying “I’m sorry but”

Really irks me

Bluntness100 · 22/05/2020 08:56

“Are you on glue” “did you mean to be so rude”

They are so unimaginative.

The oneS that really annoys me are “source?” Or “can you post a link to that”

Fine if you’ve looked and can’t find anything to back it up, but generally it’s done by some clueless random who wishes to disagree with you and have a go, but lack the general desire to take a few mins googling to see if you’re right or not. So they’d like you to do the work for them. Prove yourself wrong so to speak to save them the effort.

Eh no, fuck off, if you don’t agree then build your own argument and come back at me, don’t ask me to do it for you.
