My vagina stinks

I can't live with it anymore, it smells horrible even 2 minutes after showering. I don't use soap down there and I don't have an STI. I have been treated for thrush and no change.

It's worse in the hot weather but I'm feeling self conscious all the time. I can smell it when I'm sitting down on the sofa. People say it's normal to have an odour but when does it become abnormal?

I can't even describe the smell - it isn't fishy but it's unpleasant Sad

I can’t quite believe we are teaching a grown woman how to keep clean down under. Surely this is taught in childhood, right?

UnabashedlyNeurodifferent · 11/05/2020 23:16

Sometimes it isn't or sometimes people don't listen when they're taught and start having issues as adults. It's never too late to educate, no need being arsey about it.

OTOH, we're all just assuming here and proceeding with our cleaning advice as well as other suggestions. OP hasn't exactly mentioned whether she cleans or not or is able to or not.

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 11/05/2020 23:16

@Potatobug I wasn’t taught any personal hygiene in childhood, not everyone has parents that parent.

UnabashedlyNeurodifferent · 11/05/2020 23:16

Not need to be*

mutleymum · 11/05/2020 23:20

See a gp.

I developed pelvic inflammatory disease after a late miscarriage. It wasn't pleasant. Smelt horrendous.

Or could be bv . Very
Common. Swabs would confirm and they can give
You the right prescription

Panpastels · 11/05/2020 23:28

If I just washed with water I would smell. I use a plain soap bar but no, not inside!

dadshere · 11/05/2020 23:30

See a doctor ASAP. Could be BV, could be a foreign object inside there, could be all kinds of things.

Zombiemum1946 · 11/05/2020 23:32

The clitoral covering is also mucosal and should be left alone. I've been advised to only way outside but leave everything else alone by more than one doctor and gynecologist. If a part of your body has a mucosal lining you don't wash it with soap. Rinse with water at the very most.

oneforsorrow29 · 11/05/2020 23:33

In my opinion there is a big difference between bathing and showering. Being in a bath, having your bits fully submerged and having soapy products in the bath with you is usually enough in the way of cleansing it you have a bit of a rummage and get things washed out properly. I remember a sexual health nurse telling me that. A professional.

It's different in a shower where you are just letting the water literally trickle over your bits with no thorough washing involved.

In any case it's incredibly depressing to see grown women on an Internet forum chastising each other for their hygiene habits. This really does have school playground written all over it.

I bath daily. I don't always scrub my fanny within an inch of its life. And I don't stink.

That's a sentence I never thought I'd write on the Internet. Hmm

coffeeandpyjamas · 11/05/2020 23:36

This is the funniest thread I’ve read in a long fucking time 🤣 some absolutely hysterical comments.

MissSmiley · 11/05/2020 23:40

It's probably BV but it doesn't have to be a whole tampon, could be a tiny bit that has come off and stayed in there speaks from experience

BubblyBarbara · 11/05/2020 23:55

I can smell mine if I nip back into the bathroom shortly after I’ve had a wee to change the toilet rolls or whatever. It’s not unpleasant though, more a sort of thick musky meaty smell

ducksback · 12/05/2020 00:07

vulvas are not self cleaning. By what witchcraft do you think they are self cleaning? Vaginas are self cleaning because vaginas have discharge that come OUT of them. That is how they self clean. That discharge settles in the folds of the vulva. Vulvas are just folds of skin. They have no self cleaning system. Things do not magically self cleanse. I despair. DO you actually know where the vulva is? Do you know the difference between the vulva and the vagina?

THIS.

If the smell of your vulva remains in the air in this way then I think you may well have a hygiene problem, sorry.

Hmmyoureallythinkso · 12/05/2020 00:10

Definitely get a swab done asap could be something sinister

happyandsingle · 12/05/2020 00:13

Some of these comments are making me🤮

Sounds like a sweaty smell especially because it's been covered for a while.

Some people sweat easily and/or heavily down there. Nothing a change of underwear (or pantyliner if you use them) won't fix. Assuming there's no other issues. Just to keep things airy and fresh, best to change a couple of times or a few times a day if you can.

I have loved this thread. The biggest lockdown laugh.

Opendraw · 12/05/2020 00:17

Sorry OP I do hope you sort it out but I do thank you for this as it has brought some welcome light relief in some of the responses :-)

ducksback · 12/05/2020 00:19

Meaty smell are not words I would ever want associated with my bits.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 12/05/2020 00:32

Thank you Mathanxiety the ignorance shown on this thread was driving me mad, I can’t believe women do not know the difference between their vulva and their vagina!

SerenDippitty · 12/05/2020 00:34

I do thanks.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 12/05/2020 00:35

Apologies I have got your user name wrong damthatanxiety I’m sure you are not anxious about maths 🤦‍♀️

ThePawtriarchy · 12/05/2020 00:51

‘ Healthy and clean vaginas have a very faint sea-shell aroma’ 🤣🤣🤣🤣

She sells seashells by the seashore is now taking on a slightly dock like connotation.

JemimaPuddleCat · 12/05/2020 00:51

@DeeCeeCherry

It's BV. Smells really awful.

Can you smell it from there?
