So another killing of a black man Ahmaud Arbery by 2 white men (Father and son) in US. They nearly got away with it calling it a citizen arrest and self defence. Father was a retired policeman.

They followed him, armed with guns and shot him.

Prosecutors tried to cover it up until the video emerged.
Ahmaud’s crime? He was going for a jog.

Will black lives ever matter?

I am utterly gobsmacked that anyone can use the death of Trayvon Martin to claim the possibility that due process could show a justifiable ‘good faith’.

If you believe that it is perfectly reasonable for lethally armed civilians to kill people because they think they might pose a threat (and part of that belief is because they are black and wear a hoodie... or are running down a road, for example) then you have a very different understanding of a civilised society to me.

The fact that someone is "unarmed" doesn't necessarily mean that they are not perceived to be a threat.

As opposed to the armed men who confronted him, without any proof her was a 'threat'? More victim blaming, well done.

I hate racism so much. How anyone can have a hatred enough to murder because the colour of your skin or where you are from is beyond me. So sad the he racists are scum of the earth no matter what you look like we are all equal.

Everyday it's "be kind he kind" until it's Black bodies on the line... then you are tripping over each other to make it "not about race" even though there is video evidence. Give me strength.

To get the death penalty, the jury has to unanimously vote for it. If even one jury member objects it’s a hung jury and the judge can’t do a death sentence.

But juries are gerrymandered to prevent this, even to the extent in some states of excluding anyone who expresses opposition to the death penalty.

If the description was a young white male, would the pair given chase so aggressively? Would they have picked on a random white guy jogging in a park? Would they have cut him off in their truck and jumped out of the vehicle with a shotgun?

If the pair were black and the victim white, would it have taken 3 months and leaked video evidence before they were arrested?

I swear some people sound like they're almost afraid to admit/acknowledge that black lives do matter, that racism is alive and well and that innocent people are being abused and murdered purely because of the colour of their skin.

And yes the assumption that a black man must be up to no good shows how strong racist beliefs are. Look at the poster acting like it was a given that there was a recent local burglary which the killers might reasonably suspect Ahmaud for. Then it turned out there had been no burglaries in that area recently at all! People invent excuses out of thin air, but as soon as someone brings something up even as a hypothetical, it becomes a “what it” and very quickly “what ifs” get taken as fact.

We have people on here who would argue for "women's rights" but when it comes to "black rights" the tone changes: no it's all lives matter, we aren't all racist, the black guy must be threatening etc.... I would urge everyone to watch 13th on Netflix. Just goes to show how poorly black people are treated. And why do people defend the UK so much? Many newspapers are racist that is a fact! Look what they do and how they perceive certain groups in societies. If you aren't a women you don't know how it feels like to be a women. If you aren't a Muslim you do not know understand the hate they face. Likewise, if you are black you will never understand their struggle.

Course all lives matter. But it's pretty clear and obvious as many cases have unfortunately shown that had it been the other way around either

A. Wouldn't have happened which is obvious in this case.

B. Not taken 3 months for charges to be made! If there wasnt the video put out then it still wouldn't have been the case.

What is especially shocking is that one of the murderers was a LEO for 30 years. I wonder would the authorities might uncover if they were to go through his service record with a fine-tooth comb. Not that they will of course.
