So another killing of a black man Ahmaud Arbery by 2 white men (Father and son) in US. They nearly got away with it calling it a citizen arrest and self defence. Father was a retired policeman.

They followed him, armed with guns and shot him.

Prosecutors tried to cover it up until the video emerged.
Ahmaud’s crime? He was going for a jog.

Will black lives ever matter?

The same people who are saying "all lives matter" and dismissing how differently black people are treated in society compared to other races. Are the same people who would say sexism is a problem in society. Like men don't know what it feels like to be a women how can white people understand how it feels to be black when they aren't black? It is not that hard to understand. Stop assuming you know what it is like for a person when you aren't that person.

@Thisfeelslikearipoff I reported your post because of the unannounced, traumatizing, graphic descriptions of violence, including sexual violence, against children. Go ahead and make your ridiculous points. But do it without voyeuristically salivating over the details of tragedy. These were real children.

No it's not, but it is worse in the USA. Also because we're talking about Black Lives Matters and this particular case, which happened in the USA, I have tailored my replies to the USA.

I live in the UK and I don't think the racism here is anywhere near the same scale as in the USA.

I think it also needs to be mentioned that black people being killed for merely existing is the ultimate extreme - and it shouldn't need to get to this level for people to understand why black lives matter.

Believe it or not being black just existing in normal society is hard enough. The daily micro-aggressions wear you down eventually. These are things that by and large white people don't have to worry about because they are white. For example my parents used to tell me as a teen not to spend too long looking / picking up items in shops because I'd draw undue attention to myself - and low and behold I'd be followed around. It meant sometimes not using my whole name so that I'd stand a chance at getting an interview without one of my names begetting that I am a minority. It means despite being born and raised here continuously being pushed about where I'm 'really' from. In isolation it's not that big of a deal - but when it's a constant and it's your day to day life it does wear you down. You are forever 'other' in the very society you exist in.

It's statistically far safer being white than black in South Africa. The percentage of white South Africans murdered is way lower than the percentage of the population they make up.
We've lost black farmers too in the community I grew up in.

For decent people of course black lives matter. Sadly there a lot of people who aren’t decent.

I've just actually watched a video. The one I think people are talking about. That's it. I'm going to take this more seriously now. No longer being apathetic when people say stupid racist things online. Being desensitised to it as a black person needs to be utilised. You are right @hollybon1. The man in question was clearly committing the horrendous crime of "running while black". See also "driving while black" and "breathing while black".

No slaves were stolen from Africa. Only humans were stolen. Africans were stolen and enslaved in other countries.
