Some people enjoy patronising and depressing others

Clearly everyone is having a different experience of the current situation. It seems to me from the posts here and elsewhere that MN is full of people searching for threads from people either asking genuinely when others think the restrictions may be reduced, or people expressing mental or emotional.distress due to being locked away, sometimes alone. The pattern is the OP posts, there are a couple of sympathetic/in the case of lockdown speculation dovish opinions then the Depressor swoops, usually with a formulation along the lines of:
If you think these restrictions will be lifted anytime soon you are a naïve fool. Christmas will be cancelled and things will never fully return to normal

In the threads expressing mental distress their standard formulation is a variety of:
FFS pull yourselves together. It's been (insert number) weeks, how the F do you think people coped in the war the. All you are being asked to do is stay in and watch Netflix

There seems to be a remarkably large number of people among this cohort who claim grandparental involvement in WW1/2 and have a partner/sibling serving as a front line NHS worker. These depressors seem to scour MN looking to pounce on people expressing povs like the above.

Well, Fallon, as you know, you can't burden the NHS to seek treatment for that. You brought it on yourself with your lifestyle choice, but if you hand me a whip I'll put it between my bum cheeks and flog you from a socially acceptable distance, then you won't feel the pain of your fire-hot bits so much. Extra ten lashes for getting a hot tub because won't someone think of the environment?

FallonSwift · 27/04/2020 22:48

Oh god don't frighten me with the possibility of Greta-style dementoring. I just can't cope!

Orangeblossom78 · 27/04/2020 22:49

How do you get the dementor icon / gif thing?

Another thing they hate is if someone gets the virus and it's really mild. They're almost, like, deflated Confused

I like to hear those stories as I find them reassuring, but for them it's all a bit, kind of wrong I think. Not dramatic enough.

sussexmum · 27/04/2020 22:50

I got flamed yesterday on a whatsapp group for saying I thought prices had gone up, I stupidly admitted how much id spent in my first supermarket shop for ages and got outraged cries of 'omg what are you buying?' and a critique on my love of coffee and olive oil and booze and helpful recipe tips involving lentils.

FallonSwift · 27/04/2020 22:50

I just highlighted it and then copied and pasted. But them I'm a bit low rent Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 27/04/2020 22:51

I had someone mention (not on here) about awful singing, along with the clapping thing, "Somewhere over the rainbow". They were asking for people with violins and stuff Grin

Can you imagine?

Orangeblossom78 · 27/04/2020 22:51

prices have gone up, and the BOGOF type offers disappeared. I noticed that too.

FallonSwift · 27/04/2020 22:51

And sadness @sussexmum. No lentil recipe was ever any good without being made sadly.

Disclaimer: I actually really like lentils.

Haffiana · 27/04/2020 22:53

If I don't have a baby can I put my chavvy sex pond in the hedge whilst I can Pick Fruit For Britain?

Daffodil101 · 27/04/2020 22:54

I’ve just been out to post a letter. Coujd have waited until the morning, tbh.

Flouted rules and flaunted the fuck out of it. Pity nobody was watching.

Tomorrow I will be flaunting my flour.

FallonSwift · 27/04/2020 23:00

But what about the hedge? Ancient English hedgerows are surely part of the vulnerable population - how selfish.

peppermintcapsules · 27/04/2020 23:03

I haven't clapped once. Not a single time. I'm in the middle of nowhere. My neighbour would think I was drunk if I did that. He'd be right about that, too Grin. I'm going to Hell.

MotherofPearl · 27/04/2020 23:07

I couldn't love this thread more. Good work OP. Grin

Springersrock · 27/04/2020 23:08

My dog loves the Thursday night clap.

When we were toilet training her we used to clap and cheer whenever she went to the loo in the garden.

Now, she thinks every round of applause is for her and is out in the garden every Thursday night lapping it up.

She’s committing heinous crimes against the national crisis by taking claps away from people who are more deserving

peppermintcapsules · 27/04/2020 23:10

Don't worry, Springer, I'll look after your dog in Hell.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 27/04/2020 23:15

I just ordered myself a non-essential jacket that I can’t wear anywhere anyway, just because it made me happy. I might kick a puppy next ♟

fartingsparkles · 27/04/2020 23:34

This thread has kept me going all evening!! Best I've read in a while :) Thanks OP.

I have neither prosecco nor a 'chavvy sex pond" but I have spend far too much time (and money) buying online. I've even bought 'tat' for ds's birthday - banners! A candle! How can I bear it! I shall go and self flagellate immediately.

PS - Who else read the lockdown birthday thread? I gave up because it had to be a pisstake.

Daffodil101 · 27/04/2020 23:37

Enjoy that jacket. Somebody died so you could have that. Selfish.

JudyGemstone · 27/04/2020 23:44

My exh has a chavvy sex pond 😂

TheDIsiilusionedAnarchist · 27/04/2020 23:49

Honestly mumsnet attracts a high proportion of women with autism, social anxiety and similar conditions who cope better in an anonymous social environment online.

A lot of anxious people are genuinely terrified of catching CV, they believe they or someone they love will die if they catch it. These aren’t logical beliefs, they are rooted in anxiety and can’t be challenged by logic. The ‘rules’ are lucky charms that might just keep them safe and they experience genuine terror when people break them. They react as terrified people do; defensively and with anger. Logic has nothing to do with it. It’s magical thinking.

They’re scared, not spreading misery but sharing terror. They’re like the overzealous missionary, they really believe.

Notverybright · 27/04/2020 23:50

I love this thread! I’m actually trying to make the most of lockdown and have quite enjoyed a lot of it but I’m too scared to say that on here or on Facebook cos I know someone will say “well it’s alright for you, I have to work 20 hours a day, homeschool my 8 children and go shopping for 17 elderly relatives! Besides, how can you enjoy yourself when people are DYING?!” So yeah, if anyone asks I’ll just say it’s a struggle but I’m doing my best.

I wouldn't say that on here no Grin. I was part of a thread that asked if introverts were enjoying some time away from people (week 1 of lockdown). We got called "the worst of humanity", I shit you not.

Californiabakes · 27/04/2020 23:50

Love this thread

DioneTheDiabolist · 28/04/2020 00:39

No lentil recipe was ever any good without being made sadly.

I know one good one but it requires harissa and roasted red peppers which while not in the same league as the Curly Wurly,Hmm are hardly a necessary item. Cucumbers were questioned on a thread recently.🤷‍♀️

Chockablok · 28/04/2020 01:12

♟You will find our designated emoji (the emoji that sucks all joy out of all emojis) in the activity section if you have an iPhone / iPad.

Although tbh iPhones & iPads seem kinda frivolous right now so I suggest we all pull our Microsoft Windows 97 PCs out of our attics. #UnitedWeStand

I've attached a diagram (since, we are still on Mumsnet after all) but for those who've already proudly lost their eyesight and use content transcribers it's between the dice and the jigsaw.

I thought that was fitting since dice 🎲 suggests gambling and we can never take any risks ever (even the logical ones like walking dogs twice), and because jigsaws 🧩 are a frivolity that should also be sooked by the Dementor.

Some people enjoy patronising and depressing others
DioneTheDiabolist · 28/04/2020 01:20

I found it in the Basketball emoji section on Android.
