Acquitted but still impeached ... Trump thread 99

I’ll tell you a funny story. I’m a member of a very right-wing US politics online discussion group for kicks. The moderator of the group controls - and gets involved in - every discussion. (I should say the membership of this group is over 50K and the number of posts a day is generally 30 or so.) She’s also a typical Trumpian in that she reels off the standard “lamestream mass media” etc lines” and she mutes anyone who disagrees with her.

Anyway, I took her on eventually. She said that the Democratic candidates wanted to get rid of the Constitution. To this, I replied Trump flouts the Constitution on a regular basis. “What? Provide examples!” she replies. “Emoluments clause,” I replied. “That’s just one.”

GUYS. SHE HAD NOT HEARD OF THE EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE.

She then just spat something about she doesn’t read mass media lies and that’s why she didn’t know and muted me.

AIBU?

"Mike will be working with the professionals, the doctors and everybody else that's working," Trump said."

That's right. Anyone that's working. Wink

He wouldn't want to be in the middle of... working.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 27/02/2020 08:26

Also allows him to pass the blame onto Saint Mike. "Pence? Hardly know the guy!"

cozietoesie · 27/02/2020 13:09

He doesn't know what to do.........🤒

AcrossthePond55 · 27/02/2020 14:24

I never thought I'd say it, but Pence's speech was a bit of a breath of fresh air. Coherent and absent of (most) adjectives and superlatives.

What I did notice was that the other speakers (Pence & Fauci) both peppered their speeches with praise for Scrotus. "Doing great work" and "strong leadership" etc etc. Must be a requirement.

DH & I feel we're both somewhat low risk. Rural, retired, don't live really near a major touristy area, and don't have to mix in huge crowds if we really don't want to. Even so, this virus does have us concerned. Not panicked, just concerned.

Lweji · 27/02/2020 14:48

It's a good thing this coronavirus is not sexually transmitted nor via intravenous drug use.

Pence track record with HIV:

AcrossthePond55 · 27/02/2020 16:56

Lweji I'm not surprised that Pence didn't crack down on the HIV/AIDS crisis in Indiana. It would be interfering with God's Judgement, doncha know!

On another board I'm on a poster is saying that 'her doctor told her' that the Coronavirus was 'manmade in China by their Intel Agency and somehow it got out of the lab'. Luckily I'd donned my tinfoil hat before I read her post. I'm sure other conspiracy theories abound.

Lweji · 27/02/2020 19:06

There's always a silver lining for the US. Wink

Lweji · 27/02/2020 19:08

The man made/escape from lab has been around for a few weeks. It's inevitable.
There are similar theories for HIV and Marburg, for example.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 27/02/2020 19:21

And naturally China wouldn't have a cure available while they were creating this virus for some inscrutable reason. Of course not. They want their economy to go down the tubes.

Sounds like the sort of thing Trump would claim if his keepers didn't manage to stop him.

cozietoesie · 27/02/2020 20:53

I can (almost) relax now. Smile

lionheart · 27/02/2020 21:58

The Pence Defence Shield has been deployed.

TheClaws · 27/02/2020 23:37

I’ve been away, literally and figuratively, for a week or so, and on the way back was on a car ferry waiting to disembark at 5.45am with the rest of the sleepy passengers. We were watching the news - of course filled with coronavirus updates. All quiet. I sneeze loudly, twice. Cue twenty dirty looks.

Roussette · 28/02/2020 07:35

TheClaws this is what worries me. I'm a sneezy person and I don't sneezy quietly even though I try I'll be ostracised!

How ridiculous to send home possible coronovirus fed employees on a commercial airline?

Lweji · 28/02/2020 13:15

You won't be surprised by this.

The Trump administration barred a top US disease expert from speaking freely to the public after he warned the coronavirus might be impossible to contain

"The Trump administration has barred Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, from speaking publicly about the novel coronavirus without approval, according to The New York Times.
Fauci is one of the top experts in the US on infectious diseases, and his sober public messages have contrasted with President Donald Trump's optimistic claims about the impact of the illness.
Experts have criticized the Trump administration for effectively muzzling Fauci with the US facing its most serious public-health crisis in years."

This is shocking. Absolutely shocking. What is going on with these people? We're right, and the whole world is wrong?

Mike Pompeo refuses to say coronavirus is not a hoax.
@tedlieu
: You can’t even say it’s not a hoax?

Trump: Deny it’s a hoax and you’re fired!

Once again, it's that those in power or who are wealthy will have the ability to shield themselves from Covid-19 in ways that the rank and file of us do not. So of course, they can afford to downplay. And they'll be able to afford the very best of medical care if they should happen to become ill.

Their only concern is keeping the stock market up and/or getting reelected.

It's disgusting.

lionheart · 28/02/2020 17:55

I guess some of the respondents wouldn't buy it because the association rather than because they think it will infect them but still ...

'5W Public Relations said that 38% of Americans wouldn't buy Corona "under any circumstances" because of the outbreak, and another 14% said they wouldn't order a Corona in public. The survey encompasses polling from 737 beer drinkers in the United States.'
