Acquitted but still impeached ... Trump thread 99

I’ll tell you a funny story. I’m a member of a very right-wing US politics online discussion group for kicks. The moderator of the group controls - and gets involved in - every discussion. (I should say the membership of this group is over 50K and the number of posts a day is generally 30 or so.) She’s also a typical Trumpian in that she reels off the standard “lamestream mass media” etc lines” and she mutes anyone who disagrees with her.

Anyway, I took her on eventually. She said that the Democratic candidates wanted to get rid of the Constitution. To this, I replied Trump flouts the Constitution on a regular basis. “What? Provide examples!” she replies. “Emoluments clause,” I replied. “That’s just one.”

GUYS. SHE HAD NOT HEARD OF THE EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE.

She then just spat something about she doesn’t read mass media lies and that’s why she didn’t know and muted me.

AIBU?

I was asking about the time as Boris's updates are about 5pm, London time. So which speaks first?

Hello Sparkly

Seung Min Kim (WP)
@seungminkim

'During the Senate GOP lunch today, Moran told colleagues that Rand was at the gym this morning, per two sources briefed on the lunch, and that he was swimming in the pool. Rand got his COVID-19 results back this morning.'

AcrossthePond55 · 22/03/2020 20:19

I haven't been keeping close tabs Sparkly, they don't really seem to be at a set time. But I think the updates are usually late morning/early afternoon US West Coast time. We're currently 7 hours 'behind' you.

I've stopped watching them, they're so full of his bullshit and misinformation. News channels are pretty good at giving us the important and factual information once they're over.

AcrossthePond55 · 22/03/2020 20:19

Oops! That should read " --misinformation- and lies"!

If RR is bored and producing more like this, it's a plus for covid-19. There aren't many of those!

Watching Trumos daily brief, it's all about him, its shocking really. Summary so far, Its cost me a lot to be president, I'm doing a great job, we're helping everyone else in the world, my legal fees are huge, malaria drugs are going to work (no evidence to back this up)

chomalungma · 22/03/2020 23:33

I turned it off. He takes 5 minutes to answer a question

AcrossthePond55 · 23/03/2020 00:11

"He takes 5 minutes to fail to answer a question"

FTFY choma. Grin Wink

I can't watch him either. I don't even try anymore. The only person worth listening to is Dr Fauci.

UYScuti · 23/03/2020 00:16

It may appear to be a question but to him it is an invitation to pleasure himself by burbling on at length about whatever shite pops into his tiny mind

UYScuti · 23/03/2020 00:19

It's cost me a lot to be president
He thinks we should be grateful that he's standing up there... Indulging himself, jerking off over the whole world 😖

abcnews.go.com/US/white-supremacists-encouraging-members-spread-coronavirus-cops-jews/story?id=69737522

'Racist extremist groups, including neo-Nazis and other white supremacists, are encouraging members who contract novel coronavirus disease to spread the contagion to cops and Jews, according to intelligence gathered by the FBI.

In an alert obtained by ABC News, the FBI’s New York office reports that "members of extremist groups are encouraging one another to spread the virus, if contracted, through bodily fluids and personal interactions."

The FBI alert, which went out on Thursday, told local police agencies that extremists want their followers to try to use spray bottles to spread bodily fluids to cops on the street. The extremists are also directing followers to spread the disease to Jews by going "any place they may be congregated, to include markets, political offices, businesses and places of worship."'

This is just peculiar even by Trump standards.

Roussette · 23/03/2020 07:32

lion that is absolutely shocking. How on earth do you fight against that? (the neo nazis trying to spread it)

I watched Trump yesterday. Obviously he was told to reassure and after yesterday's lashing out to the journo who asked what he would say to Americans who are scared.... he tried. He read off a script, it was hollow and meaningless and totally false.

Dems are getting blasted for not approving the trillion$ rescue package that does nothing for the ordinary man. It's being called a Mnuchin/Trump slush fund. No accountability, and they don't have to say where the money is going. No wonder Schumer, Pelosi and the Dems have voted against it

Also Trump wouldn't say that he would not take aid for his hotels, he just blathered on about not getting thanked for taking no pay as President.

Chuck Schumer
@SenSchumer
We voted no on the McConnell-GOP bill because among other problems it includes huge bailouts without protections for people and workers and without accountability, and because it shortchanges our hospitals and healthcare workers who need our help.

These changes need to be made.

lionheart · 23/03/2020 09:13

It is something else, isn't it Roussette?

They will take everything they can. No doubt.

Lweji · 23/03/2020 11:09

How on earth do you fight against that? (the neo nazis trying to spread it)

By taking your normal precaution measures outside your home, that assume everything may be contaminated, and that you may be infected already.

Numbers in the US have jumped yesterday and I suspect there will be shock when testing increases further.

And his own backside.

NEW: Trump began talking privately late last week about reopening the nation, against the advice of health professionals, because he's worried about the economy

AcrossthePond55 · 23/03/2020 16:42

I am absolutely UNsurprised that Scrotus would be willing to gamble with the lives of the 'great unwashed' in order to save the economy his own businesses. Why would anyone be surprised at this? After all, the 'hoi polloi' don't generally stay at his resorts nor golf at his courses so our deaths aren't going to affect his bottom line.

The 'good news' is that the lockdowns are done state by state and (to my knowledge) he does NOT have the ability to override a Governor's mandated lockdown. Of course I'm sure he has the ability to make things difficult for them (and us) using federal funding and support. The House will try to protect us, but we've seen how well the 'balance of power' has been working so far!

But then again, maybe if he mouths off enough his fans will start ignoring lockdowns and precautions and just 'Darwin' themselves whilst the rest of us abide by the rules.

lionheart · 23/03/2020 20:04

I imagine they will eventually hide behind the 'herd immunity' science if the economic justifications don't fly.

They will certainly blame the States/Governors for whatever destruction they themselves enable.
