Can you all just give my DH a sense check. He thinks this is a sensible idea. We're in Yorkshire and the wind and rain here is biblical

We went to Junior ParkRun this morning. It was definitely windy but fine Grin

YouTheCat · 09/02/2020 11:27

Is he the sort of person who is the reason we have to have safety notices on everything?

If he's well insured, I'd let him go. Grin

Batshittery · 09/02/2020 11:31

I'm going out for a pub lunch about 20 miles away, and have no intention of cancelling.

RickSanchez · 09/02/2020 11:33

It would mean a journey down the motorway and we would be driving with our DSs 8 and 7

Livelovebehappy · 09/02/2020 11:34

Is it the Birstall Ikea by any chance OP? I guess if you do go, you will avoid the normally manic crowds there, and won’t face huge queues to get your meatballs!

AlandAnna · 09/02/2020 11:34

Probably fine but hardly essential

AllPointsNorth · 09/02/2020 11:35

Is he heavily insured? If so, send him on his own.

dognamedspot · 09/02/2020 11:38

It doesn't have to be a family outing. If he insists let him go on his own.

BecauseReasons · 09/02/2020 11:38

You'll probably be fine, but I'm limiting my travel today to none unless the people joining me at the pub lunch insist on coming, because I'm much closer than they are and it would seem silly if I flaked out and they're still up for it.

cologne4711 · 09/02/2020 11:39

We went to Junior ParkRun this morning. It was definitely windy but fine

Wow I'm surprised it wasn't cancelled. Our local junior parkrun was and so were most races.

isseywith4vampirecats · 09/02/2020 11:41

weve just been down to B&Q and its not actually that bad out just windy and wet and we live near Bradford

ShirleyPhallus · 09/02/2020 11:42

Unless he’s in a high sided van I’d probably go tbh, it will be pretty quiet there

QuestionableMouse · 09/02/2020 11:43

You'll probably be fine but why risk it? It's IKEA, it can wait until next weekend.

I'm in County Durham and I'm staying in today. Took the dog for a walk earlier and we almost got blown away before the end of my street!

Thehop · 09/02/2020 11:44

My
Mother in law lives behind that one, my dh wants to visit. Erm no.

He’s decided to take the boys to Freeport for trainers though. Crackers.

honesttogod · 09/02/2020 11:44

If it's not essential then stay home. If he really wants to go send him out alone.

BeautifulStrangers · 09/02/2020 11:44

YouTheCat Grin

Can't he go by himself if you give him a list?

Thefaceofboe · 09/02/2020 11:46

Go, it’ll be dead!

tenlittlecygnets · 09/02/2020 11:48

Our local parkrun was cancelled, we have trees and branches down, local stately homes, forests and NT properties are closed... (Bucks)

If it's not essential, I'd stay at home...

OneOfTheGrundys · 09/02/2020 11:48

He might drive well but there will most likely be other twats that won’t. Don’t bother. There’s already been several rta’s near us (east kent) because of people not driving to the conditions.

mum11970 · 09/02/2020 11:51

I went to town to pick up dd at 9 this morning and we’re off on a 70 mile trip for a day out later.

RickSanchez · 09/02/2020 11:53

I think it's disconcerting travelling on the motorway in heavy rain when visibility is reduced, I'm imagining it's worse with the wind factor added in. What we need can't wait until next week so I just think its needlessly risky

OP posts:
PureAlchemy · 09/02/2020 11:53

I’d leave it till next weekend unless it’s absolutely essential to do it today. Why take the risk of driving in this weather if you don’t have to?

And if he’s insisting, then surely the rest of you could stay safely at home?

RickSanchez · 09/02/2020 11:56

We're only going for playroom storage and some meatballs, I've put my foot down. All the roads around our house are flooded

OP posts:
AutumnRose1 · 09/02/2020 11:56

if he wants to go, he goes alone

why should he put everyone else at risk for a trip to bloody Ikea.

LouReidDododo · 09/02/2020 11:58

I’ve just got saturated!! Came running out of the super market with a bag in each hand. The wind and rain were battering me back. Got to the car, hair whipped round my face dripping wet and dh and the kids wouldn’t let me in. Sat there laughing at me through the window till I shouted and dh let me in Angry

On the couch in my PJ now and not moving!
