Can you all just give my DH a sense check. He thinks this is a sensible idea. We're in Yorkshire and the wind and rain here is biblical

I'm glad we came home now, our new kitchen extension is leaking and the garden is filling up with water. We needed next door to bail us out!

The power has also been cut until 10pm! That's my Sunday roast buggered Sad

@AmelieTaylor If you want to read a bitchy comment then read your own.

PoppyFleur · 09/02/2020 15:41

In response to @windy I don't think @AmelieTaylor meant the comment bitchily.

Surely it is logic to pay attention to guidance from the Met Office and emergency services? We have been advised to delay non essential journeys, if people venture out unnecessarily and get into difficulty, the emergency services will need to rescue them - potentially putting their own lives at risk.

There is enough chaos being caused by the weather itself, do we really need to add to the burden on the already over stretched emergency services?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/02/2020 15:41

Saying "only a storm" could only be as a comparison with a hurricane, I would have thought? I mean, storms take off some roofs, and blow down some trees and push some high-sided lorries off the road. Hurricanes leave towns without a single building standing and cars in the trees.

Ciara is a storm. Not a typhoon, not a hurricane, a storm. That doesn't mean that it can't kill people if they take risks, or even if they don't but happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong moment and get hit by a falling tree or a crashing lorry or a bit of someone else's roof.

Avelinebread · 09/02/2020 15:55

It's only a storm. Say that to the families of the people who die.

Maybe she didn't but it certainly came across that way. She thought my non-bitchy comment was bitchy, which it wasn't as it was made after seeing people buying 5 loaves of bread in our very local shop today and I thought her comment was bitchy.

Waitingforciara · 09/02/2020 16:09

AmelieTaylor wasn't in the least bit 'bitchy' Hmm she spoke perfect sense.

windymillersmill · 09/02/2020 16:24

We're not going to agree so let's just leave it.

Windy, preppers are the last people who will be in the shops on a day like today stripping the shelves of bread. Preppers, by definition, have already prepared for events like this. The people you saw were panic buyers. Very different.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/02/2020 17:46

Avelinebread

People die in storms. That does not make the storm anything other than a storm. It is not a volcanic eruption or a tsunami or WWIII; it is a storm.

AllPointsNorth · 09/02/2020 17:54

On the news, the emergency services have rescued a surfer off the coast of Hastings. I wondered what sort of idiot would think that was a good idea. Then I read this thread.
I’m a prepper too, I don’t need to leave the house to panic buy anything.

Waitingforciara · 09/02/2020 17:58

TheoriginalLEM · 10/02/2020 07:11

Well, that escalated

AmelieTaylor · 12/02/2020 11:53

@PoppyFleur @Waitingforciara @SingingBabooshkaBadly

Thank you 🌷

I get fed up of ‘preppers’ getting the blame & getting mocked when we’re not the ones panic buying because we are ‘prepared’ and don’t need to, leaving the supplies there for others.

Anyway....moving on

@RickSanchez. How are you getting on? We’re you able to get the leak fixed without the water having cause damage too much damage?

IanSomerhalderIsAGod · 12/02/2020 12:07

Omg not the Sunday roast! 😱😂🤦🏼‍♀️
