To ask if your post birth vagina looks very different?

I gave birth 2 years ago and had forceps & an episiotomy. It was very traumatic and nobody examined me afterwards, I didn’t push for anyone to as I didn’t want anyone going near me.

Now I’m due to give birth again and thought I would have a look down there with a mirror, and wow it looks fucking disgusting. Sorry for TMI but while my labia looks the same, everything underneath looks rearranged, swirly and bumpy. It looks like an alien vagina.

Does anyone else look so different afterwards or is this very unusual?

Sorry OP, but I had 2 sections, so mine is the same. No help I know sorry!!

But yours does not sound right, although birth injuries and your 'bits' looking different (even messy) after is not uncommon.

It IS fixable though. Please get an appointment with your GP, and see if you can be referred for post-birth surgery down there. Good luck!

LtGreggs · 07/02/2020 17:29

Mine definitely looks different - looks like it's been through a washing machine & left crumpled up...

Luckily for me it still seems to work OK.

TweetUsOnFacebook · 07/02/2020 17:31

Like an over filled kebab that's been hanging around too long

TheGirlWithAPrince · 07/02/2020 17:36

Wierdly mine looks the same, have had 2 babies weighing 9.4lbs and strangely looks the same

MaidenMotherCrone · 07/02/2020 17:50

Like a folded newspaper sticking out of a welly. Lovely Shock

Alfr · 07/02/2020 17:52

If you can see your vagina, you've got a serious problem...

DryHeave · 07/02/2020 17:53

I had an episiotomy. Looks like my fanny’s been given a Glasgow smile.

ScribblyGum · 07/02/2020 17:58

@Alfr or maybe a medical scope of some sort?

Bumfuzzled · 07/02/2020 17:59

I’ll be honest, I’ve not looked since my last labour 4 years ago. Frankenstein’s monster comes to mind Shock

GetOffTheTableMabel · 07/02/2020 18:00

Oh god. I have no idea but I am really enjoying these descriptions!
I don’t know what it looked like before and I don’t know now. I did have an episiotomy though so I suppose it must.
Does it matter though? If it all works fine, does it matter what it looks like. I’m a vain person but I can’t get worked up about what my undercarriage looks like. Only DH sees it and he’s still a fan.

ScribblyGum · 07/02/2020 18:00

A colposcope!

New word for the day for me.

dayowl · 07/02/2020 18:01

Mine doesn’t look that different

AgathaVanHelsing · 07/02/2020 18:04

I try not to look, I had before what would be quite a nice tidy one. Now I agree with the overfilled kebab comment! Grin

AgathaVanHelsing · 07/02/2020 18:05

Also, it went brown from pink. Which I find hugely distasteful

meredithgrey1 · 07/02/2020 18:06

DD is 8 months and it hadn't occurred to me to look..

goes off to get mirror

Bipbipbipbip · 07/02/2020 18:06

I looked at 2 weeks pp and was so horrified that I vowed never to look again. I've grown a 1960s-esque muff, more through neglect than design, which helps cover the car crash fanny.

Alsohuman · 07/02/2020 18:07

Does anybody really care what their bits look like as long as they work?

picklesdragonisawelshdragon · 07/02/2020 18:12

Chopped liver.

But at least you waited a fair while. I looked too soon, and it was basically like the black hole of Calcutta.

And @Alfr- oh yes I could.

AgathaVanHelsing · 07/02/2020 18:12

@meredithgrey1 don't do it!

@Alsohuman clearly, hense the thread.

ChanklyBore · 07/02/2020 18:14

My bits look the same apart from a tear on my inner labia. A bit like a nick in a cats ear when it has been fighting Grin

I mean, I don’t look exactly the same but my first pregnancy was 16 years ago so I have to add some leeway for aging.

I don’t shave, though, so maybe it worries people who do more - both in terms of being able to see more and in terms of actually going down there for maintenance. I just wash .... and I’m not contorting myself in the shower for a glimpse of my nether regions.

If you are worried or upset by it OP I’d seek medical assistance. Do you have any pain?

Deckthehallswithlotsofcake · 07/02/2020 18:18

I had two kids and mine looks the same. But neither birth took long. It is more painful that way but apparently safer for both the mum and the kid.

GummyGoddess · 07/02/2020 18:20

I can't remember what it looked like before, but it looks fine to me. And apparently also looks fine to casual partners Wink

yadayadayesokay · 07/02/2020 18:26

@ChanklyBore Yes I’m a bit worried that something’s not right, not just aesthetically. I’ve had pain during sex ever since Sad

OP posts:
crosspelican · 07/02/2020 18:29

2 vaginal births, and nothing looks the same. Alien vag is a good description! I'm used to it now, 10 years on, but still.

Interesting about the length of the birth - dd1 took a bloody lifetime, dd2 just popped out.

99problemsandthecatis1 · 07/02/2020 18:30

Mine definitely does.

I spoke to a friend about this, and she said hers does too. As though its a doorway with double doors that are now permanently open.
