To ask if your post birth vagina looks very different?

I gave birth 2 years ago and had forceps & an episiotomy. It was very traumatic and nobody examined me afterwards, I didn’t push for anyone to as I didn’t want anyone going near me.

Now I’m due to give birth again and thought I would have a look down there with a mirror, and wow it looks fucking disgusting. Sorry for TMI but while my labia looks the same, everything underneath looks rearranged, swirly and bumpy. It looks like an alien vagina.

Does anyone else look so different afterwards or is this very unusual?

I am sporting a large, hanging on by a thread flappy bit of detached labia. It literally waves around and I can tuck it in too! Looks awful and wanted to have it tidied up, ( cut off ) but was discouraged as midwife said it would possibly cause further long term discomfort. Ironically I think this giant tear made for easier births re DS2 and DS3. I've made my peace with it!

Just adding that I can also see my vagina as well as my vulva. A big 'Well done' to those of you who still have theirs tucked inside and have come along to tell others we're mistaken.

Nb. I cant see all of it and no one here has claimed that.

LowcaAndroidow · 08/02/2020 16:01

I've never seen my vagina, as it's tucked up inside
Two babies ago mine was all neatly tucked up inside too Sad

Just leaving this here for those expressing faux concern over my ability to.see my own vagina. Ya'll might pick up a few tips. 😉😂😂😂

Normally I would be a vulva/vagina person but I think in this case, we probably need a word that covers both Grin

Childbirth injury covers both and I went from not being able to work out where my vagina was to being able to see too much of it in a few short years.

Branleuse · 09/02/2020 16:12

Aside from the vulva police and latin names for body parts purists, Im more amazed that there are so many people who have never sat in front of a mirror and checked out their own fanny. Is it that you cant see it, or you just never felt a connection to your own genitals?

Tanyanichols · 29/02/2020 13:45

After two my labia is a lot bigger and hangs between my thighs a little. I don’t mind but am aware of it if in a bikini or nude on the beach if you know what I mean x

I know this thread is old, but I just had my first baby and a 2nd degree tear requiring stitches, I'm now 4 weeks pp and decided now was time to sneak and peek. It almost knocked me faint- it's like a totally different fanny! At first I thought my stitches had somehow come undone and it had healed all open but no.... that's just how i look now. It used to look like a cheerio and now it looks like the sole of a shoe.
I'm hoping it might still have a bit of healing to do!

It's your vulva NOT your vagina, if you can see your vagina then you have had a prolapse and need to see a medical professional. I really wish people would use the correct terminology.

I had a couple of gynae appts recently,no one used correct terminology. It was quite obvious what was meant just like the OP .
