One Micro Rice Should Feed Two Adults

One packet of microwave rice, when served as a side to, say, chilli or curry, should serve two adults.

Your votes, please.

I am over 50 so yes, 1 packet does 2 people.
You have to eat half as much and exercise twice as much at my age.

soundsystem · 06/02/2020 09:51

Packet each here! Although I'm well aware I eat too many carbs... (I'm very active to make up for how much I like eating, though, so I'm not overweight)

TreatMyself · 06/02/2020 09:52

It doesn’t quite do two does it?

Whiskeychaser · 06/02/2020 09:53

I follow the serving size on the packet. It's enough for me, but my oh would eat more.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 06/02/2020 09:53

It depends on whether it's being served with a curry that's been mistaken for left overs.

Anyway, I'm saving the planet by making one pack of microwave rice serve six adults. I'm inviting my neighbours round to prove my point.

JaffaCakeGal · 06/02/2020 09:54

I can't vote as I do both, if on my own I have one to myself, if DP cooking he does one between us. One is too much, half is too little!

Picklypickles · 06/02/2020 09:55

We don't usually get microwave rice pouches, I tend to by the frozen rice that comes in individual portions. My oh isn't really fussed about rice so will only have a bit and usually if we are having curry there will be other sides like naan bread and onion bhajis etc so no need to go mental with the rice!

ToEarlyForDecorations · 06/02/2020 09:56

This. It's about 90p for a packet of microwave rice. Why be stingy ?

Motacilla · 06/02/2020 09:56

Half a pack fills about a quarter of a plate so that sounds about a portion if another quarter is protein and the other half is veg.

UndertheCedartree · 06/02/2020 09:57

1 would feed me and my BF but he would have a bit more than me.

KatyCarrCan · 06/02/2020 09:57

Yy it should but isn't this a TAAT so it should disappear soon.

SproutMuncher · 06/02/2020 09:58

Nah I have the whole thing Grin

ChanklyBore · 06/02/2020 09:58

I do one to share between 2 of us, with curry. He eats naan with it too but I don’t.

I only do one if DD joins us too so that’s between 3 of us, dd is teen.

Im trying to stop the microwave rice due to plastic so I’m interested in how much a portion is for measuring out.

Jellybeansincognito · 06/02/2020 10:01

I also think it’s 1.5 pouches for 2 adults.

It is absolutely disgusting though.

spiderlight · 06/02/2020 10:01

One pack is more than enough. I used to use one single-serve pouch between me and pre-teen DS but they don't seem to sell them any more.

Midnight0 · 06/02/2020 10:02

Micro rice should not be eaten at all, so YABU Grin

Chillicheese123 · 06/02/2020 10:02

I mean eat what you want, but half one one with a main dish and some salad or veg or even garlic bread is absolutely fine for me.

Was at a friends the other day, she’d made a casserole type thing. She emptied one packet of rice each onto her, mine and her DH plates and I was Shock

She often bemoans the fact that she’s struggling to lose weight, but I think her idea of a meal is literally enough for two people, and therein lies the struggle

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/02/2020 10:03

No TAATs on mumsnet.

tenlittlecygnets · 06/02/2020 10:04

DD has one all to herself...

Chickenitalia · 06/02/2020 10:04

Does 2 adults here. Dh would eat more if it was available but never complains about portion. Tend to bulk out the plate with veg and have fewer carbs in general tho.
I do like the whole grain ones as cooking that from dried takes daaaaayyyyyyyysssssss...

Tombliwho · 06/02/2020 10:05

Yabu my toddler son eats two packs as a snack plus 2 or 3 chicken breasts and he is skinny as a rake.

WanttogotoParis · 06/02/2020 10:05

Completely depends. Dh eats a whole packet, but he's quite overweight so probably not a good example. Half is enough for me, but I could eat a whole pack if I wanted to.

Also depends whether you're having naan with it.

PatellarTendonitis · 06/02/2020 10:06

What Hulk said.

lazylinguist · 06/02/2020 10:08

I've just started using them, for wholegrain rice only because the non-microwave kind takes so long to cook. I can't see how they can be 'disgusting' - they are just rice with a tiny bit of oil to stop it sticking together.Confused

Anyway, 1 packet is enough for me and dh. I guess it depends what you're having with it though. We had ours with veggie chilli yesterday. No other sides.

tenlittlecygnets · 06/02/2020 10:08

@Tombliwho - my toddler son eats two packs as a snack plus 2 or 3 chicken breasts

What???? Really??? That's a lot for a toddler...
