To be FUMING?!!

I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant and suffering with bad spd which is mainly felt in my lower back. Our sofa was on its way out so on the 27th December we went and ordered a new large sofa and snuggle chair from a local place (not a big chain) and were told it'd be 4-6 weeks but pretty much guaranteed it'd be first week of feb. There was discount on and we'd calculated for both it'd be £970. We paid 50% and the lady said the total bill was £720 so we paid £360. I was obviously confused as it sounded too cheap but on our invoice it had '£250 discount' so I assumed it was an extra, albeit poorly advertised discount.

We went back in the shop 2 weeks later and got a mattress which was £400 and when we were paying I mentioned we'd ordered a sofa with them too and the woman looked us up and said there was an error on our last invoice and our total for the sofa was actually £970. I was obviously annoyed and really wanted to argue the point but with pregnancy hormones and this bloody pain I didn't push it and just said it was a bad mistake to make and had we not gone in for the mattress we'd have probably only been told about the mistake when the sofa was actually in.

Anyway fast forward to this morning and they ring me to say they're currently chasing the supplier and waiting on a call back. I was mad again cos I thought she'd be saying it was ready (I'm not normally so easily angered it's my hormones honest!) she then said 'there's delivery slots tomorrow my to which I said yes but we don't know the sofa is ready yet so no point getting excited it might be tomorrow.

She's just rang me again and said it'll be ready 24th if feb and delivery can be a few days after!! I'm LIVID!! I cannot sit on our sofa for more than 15 minutes at a time and if I lie on the bed to watch tv I really really struggle to walk when I get up. I've just very firmly told the lady I'm really really unhappy and I would like a call in the morning from the manager. I've told her I am NOT paying full price for this sofa, given the ridiculous mistake with the cost AND the fact it's another 3 weeks!! I'm so annoyed, where do I stand though when the manager calls?? We owe them £610 which we need to pay when the sofa is ready for delivery but I don't see why we should pay the full amount?? I don't want to cut my nose on and say stick it because we won't get it for this price anywhere else and I don't know if we'd be able to get the deposit back anyway if we did do that?? Please help!! What would u do?

Hmm. So the total is actually as you calculated (i.e. correct)? And the sofa will be delivered just outside their 4-6 week guideline window, but later than they originally said?

Can see why you’re irritated but not to the extent that you require a discount of hundreds of pounds, no.

Cherry4weans · 05/02/2020 17:24

Find out the email address of the very top person and be firm but polite. Tell them you would hate to be leaving bad reviews on SM and around town. Yanbu for being annoyed about this pregnant or not.

Tombakersscarf · 05/02/2020 17:26

So you have an invoice for a cheaper cost? Why would they be able to put that up?

mantarays · 05/02/2020 17:27

If they have incorrectly invoices I believe they are entitled to correct it. It’s an honest mistake.

mantarays · 05/02/2020 17:27

*invoiced

Motherclucker01 · 05/02/2020 17:30

I’m not sure if you’re being a CF’er TBH.

It’s a rubbish mistake but you did realise at the time although you didn’t mention it? I mean how long would that conversation have taken? You were well enough to carry out the rest of the transaction but not well enough to say ‘I think you might have calculated that wrong, I think it’s £900+ could you check’

As for the delivery, yes it’s annoying but it’s not their problem you are unable to sit on your old sofa and I’m not sure what you expect them to do to get it to you sooner? If it’s not in stock they can’t magic it to you.

So with all that I have decided you’re being a CF’er that just wants a discount and are pissy you didn’t get the bargain (mistake) you thought you were getting.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 05/02/2020 17:30

Given that you thought it should be £970 and the invoice you were given confused you, why did you not ask for clarification at the time?

CornishPasties · 05/02/2020 17:31

I can see why you are frustrated but part of you knew the discount wasnt correct at the time so i dont think you can quibble about them asking you to pay full price.

They might be delivering slightly later but its not too far outside their estimated delivery time. So again whilst frustrating i dont think it warrents a discount.

Is it possible for them to deliver just the chair and then the sofa at a later date so you can have something comfier to sit on? If not id just chill out in bed with lots of pillows until it arrives as that will be less uncomfortable.

IndecentFeminist · 05/02/2020 17:36

It's only slightly late tbh,I think fuming is an overreaction

DarklyDreamingDexter · 05/02/2020 17:37

I’m a bit confused by this. You knew it was £970, you paid £360 deposit, so you now owe £610. You were told it would be ready for delivery in the first week in Feb, which it is. All you need to do is pay what you owe and get it delivered as it’s not a ready? What’s the issue?

Gazelda · 05/02/2020 17:38

I don't see why you shouldn't pay the full amount! You knew the price of the order, so it's. It as though you're out of pocket or they've tried to mislead you.
The delivery is 3 weeks later than expected, but that's surely just an inconvenience? You still have a sofa to sit on (although I sympathise with your spd).
I think you are over reacting.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 05/02/2020 17:39

Now ready, not ‘not a ready’. Bloody autocorrect.

Supertrooper98 · 05/02/2020 17:42

YABU

CeibaTree · 05/02/2020 17:43

You were happy to keep quiet about their mistake, but now you are fuming that you have to pay what you originally thought it would be (and presumably budgeted for)?
I can see why you are annoyed about the delivery date though, but not sure that justifies a hefty discount. It's worth complaining to head office about the delivery date I guess, but if you complain that the invoice was wrong but corrected as soon as they realised to the amount you originally thought it would be then they will probably and rightly ignore that complaint.

Don't think you have a leg to stand on OP sorry m'dear, hope you feel much better soon .l had that during my pregnancy it is so painful! Flowers

SinglePringle · 05/02/2020 17:50

I’d be mildly put out by the slightly later delivery and think ‘fair cop’ regarding the discount that never was.

You’re being a bit of a hormonal CF and as a result, YABU.

JosefKeller · 05/02/2020 17:51

I am with you OP.

A 3 weeks delay is absolutely unacceptable - you chose a product based on availability, and could have very well gone elsewhere to get something quicker. I would be fuming too.

So yes, it's ok to make a very strong complaint to the top person and expect at the very least a gesture of good will.

The mistake on the invoice is annoying, if it stated a discount they didn't apply in the end.. that's not right either. It's legal to correct it, but it's not looking good for them.

Alsohuman · 05/02/2020 17:52

So you’re being asked to pay exactly what you originally expected to and it’s being delivered nine days outside the quoted time frame. The delay’s a minor annoyance, not a reason to fume.

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2020 17:53

Bit annoying it's going to be a few weeks later than you were expecting but shit happens.

All this 'LIVID' and 'fuming' lark isn't going to get you anywhere. It's not the shop's fault.

As for the discount that never was, I get why you didn't query it at the time Wink

I love a "fuming" thread, they're always so overboard.

FrankieDoyle · 05/02/2020 18:02

I think YABU sorry.

Why didnt you query the discount at the time?

Bringringbring · 05/02/2020 18:03

You calculated correctly
They calculated correctly
The lady who “said it was £720”... I reckon you misheard. In any event - she doesn’t just say.... she would have given you paperwork!
