To be FUMING?!!

I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant and suffering with bad spd which is mainly felt in my lower back. Our sofa was on its way out so on the 27th December we went and ordered a new large sofa and snuggle chair from a local place (not a big chain) and were told it'd be 4-6 weeks but pretty much guaranteed it'd be first week of feb. There was discount on and we'd calculated for both it'd be £970. We paid 50% and the lady said the total bill was £720 so we paid £360. I was obviously confused as it sounded too cheap but on our invoice it had '£250 discount' so I assumed it was an extra, albeit poorly advertised discount.

We went back in the shop 2 weeks later and got a mattress which was £400 and when we were paying I mentioned we'd ordered a sofa with them too and the woman looked us up and said there was an error on our last invoice and our total for the sofa was actually £970. I was obviously annoyed and really wanted to argue the point but with pregnancy hormones and this bloody pain I didn't push it and just said it was a bad mistake to make and had we not gone in for the mattress we'd have probably only been told about the mistake when the sofa was actually in.

Anyway fast forward to this morning and they ring me to say they're currently chasing the supplier and waiting on a call back. I was mad again cos I thought she'd be saying it was ready (I'm not normally so easily angered it's my hormones honest!) she then said 'there's delivery slots tomorrow my to which I said yes but we don't know the sofa is ready yet so no point getting excited it might be tomorrow.

She's just rang me again and said it'll be ready 24th if feb and delivery can be a few days after!! I'm LIVID!! I cannot sit on our sofa for more than 15 minutes at a time and if I lie on the bed to watch tv I really really struggle to walk when I get up. I've just very firmly told the lady I'm really really unhappy and I would like a call in the morning from the manager. I've told her I am NOT paying full price for this sofa, given the ridiculous mistake with the cost AND the fact it's another 3 weeks!! I'm so annoyed, where do I stand though when the manager calls?? We owe them £610 which we need to pay when the sofa is ready for delivery but I don't see why we should pay the full amount?? I don't want to cut my nose on and say stick it because we won't get it for this price anywhere else and I don't know if we'd be able to get the deposit back anyway if we did do that?? Please help!! What would u do?

I'm assuming their T&Cs say in the small print that the 4-6 weeks delivery is not guaranteed but I don't know why PPs are giving you hard time for being cross it won't be arriving until 24 February. The first week in February (ie now) is 6 weeks. If it isn't delivered until 26/27 February, that will be 9 weeks, significantly longer than you were advised.

As for the discount, was the correct discount £250 but they took it twice so it should have been obvious they had made a mistake? Or is it a totally random amount, hence your assumption it was a further discount/offer? I think because you paid a deposit, you have entered into a contract so they have to sell it to you at that price unless it should have been obvious to you that it was a mistake. Maybe head over to legal matters for advice.

Twillow · 05/02/2020 18:10

People get their furniture late ALL THE TIME - it's irritating but I don't know that I would be FUMING, I would have been somewhat expecting it tbh.
Sorry but you were aware what the price should have been, so I do think YABU to expect them to lose £250 just because delivery is a bit late.

Mlou32 · 05/02/2020 18:11

Dearly me, YABU.

Thanks to the people who get why I'm annoyed and less thanks to the people who were quite so harsh. As someone kindly pointed out for me, it's 3 weeks late not 9 days! I also have an invoice which very clearly states £720. It says on one line '£250 discount' so this is the exact amount as I thought it was going to be £970.

To the people who can't understand why I'm fuming, I'm in agony which may make me react more strongly than usual but it's 3 weeks late! Plus why on earth did the girl ring me this morning to say she was just waiting for a call from the supplier and that there were delivery slots tomorrow? CLEARLY this was going to get my hopes up!!

I think YAB a bit U about the price, though not all the way to CFery. You understandably didn't query what seemed to be an unexpected discount.
As far as the delivery date goes, I know these things happen, but actually I think that 2 months from the order date is quite a long way past 4-6 weeks.

Jiggeriepokerie · 05/02/2020 18:20

You're being a CFer. You knew they'd miscalculated from the start but chose to say nothing and try to save yourself a few quid. That's a shit trick to play and bugger all to do with pregnancy hormones. If they hadn't noticed the error when you went in today would you still be expecting a discount for late delivery? I doubt it.

I had a sofa arrive 5 weeks late. These things happen.

JosefKeller · 05/02/2020 18:44

I had a sofa arrive 5 weeks late. These things happen.

up to you if you are happy to put up with that, it's not acceptable. I would have time to order a sofa from another company and get it delivered in that time.

Depends what you need it for.

Interestedwoman · 05/02/2020 18:44

I also have an invoice which very clearly states £720. It says on one line '£250 discount'

To me that clearly indicated that it would be £720. The woman admitted they'd made a mistake. IMO they should give it to you at the price you were expecting, as that is what was stated on your invoice. Usually if a shop has made a mistake with the price, they give the customer the item at the price they were misinformed it was going to be.

It also is a long time for you to wait. Three weeks is a long time in pregnancy with SPD I imagine!

I would give them black reviews everywhere you can. xxx

Tartyflette · 05/02/2020 18:49

The OP has an invoice for £720! And which mentions a £250 discount - why wouldn't she expect to pay that amount?
If it was me, I would be thinking that I must have got the original sums wrong, not them!
I would be writing or emailing head office or the MD asking for a full explanation for the discrepancy. And a fulsome apology too at the very least. (As well as for the extended delivery time, which is half as long again as what you were originally promised. )
If they cocked something up they should put it right; i appreciate delivery times may be tricky but an extra three weeks, is not ‘a bit late’.

rainbow1982 · 05/02/2020 18:52

Interestedwoman thankyou for your understanding, honestly 3 weeks feels like a lifetime with this pain! Our sofa all sunk underneath so my dad helped us by putting a big piece of wood under it but it's now too hard, if I lie down I really struggle to walk every time I get up so that's about every 10 minutes when I need to pee!!

I did sign the invoice for £720 and it clearly stated £250 discount. I cannot understand people calling me a cf based on this???? Apart from the fact it's a disgusting and pretty unintelligent thing to call a complete stranger??? I guess there's lots of keyboard warriors but again thanks to those who understand. I won't ask anything again on here that's for sure!

You knew they'd miscalculated from the start It depends though if there was a miscalculation, ie an obvious mistake, such the correct discount was £250 and they deducted it twice or it stated a 10% discount but the calculation was wrong. It's not uncommon for multiple offers to apply. I've bought sale items when there has been a storewide 10% off homewares offer, for example, and the discount has still applied. If the £250 discount bore no relation to the amount already discounted, I would probably assume the same as the OP.

rainbow1982 · 05/02/2020 18:54

Tartyflette THANKYOU! 👍😁

I had a sofe delivered 2 hours after the time window they gave me, and got a refund for the delivery charge as an apology.

I think yanbu to be annoyed about the delivery delay, and to let them know that to see what they offer to compensate.

But YABU about having to pay the full price for something that you were originally expecting to pay full price for.

You need to seperate the two issues.

Monsterjam · 05/02/2020 19:02

You should pay full price because you are getting a full sofa ffs

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 05/02/2020 19:03

I must live in a parallel universe to many posters on this thread.

If I got an invoice which said £720 on it, I'd expect to pay £720. Even if I'd been expecting to pay £970 before being presented with said invoice. I wouldn't automatically assume that people are so inept at their jobs that they - the retailers who presumably KNOW the price of their products and what discounts are applicable - are wrong and that I -the customer who has just walked through the door and who doesn't sell these products for my day job - am right!

mantarays · 05/02/2020 19:03

I did sign the invoice for £720 and it clearly stated £250 discount. I cannot understand people calling me a cf based on this????

Because it was an error, and moreover you knew (or suspected) it was an error.

Tombliwho · 05/02/2020 19:05

I think you need to calm down and get a bit of perspective tbh.
Yes it's really annoying but it's good that you were able to buy a new sofa. Loads of pregnant women just crack on if theirs is a bit shit. I don't think kicking off will help you at all. Maybe if you are polite and reasonable the manager will be more inclined to help.
You have quite a lot of 'being pregnant' left so I would spend less time fuming and more time finding out how to manage your pain. I was hardly able to walk by about 26 weeks but still had to do school runs so needed strong painkillers, a maternity belt and a physio referral which took a few weeks. Put some energy into managing this rather than stressing and raging.

SinglePringle · 05/02/2020 19:05

I would think I’d got a lucky touch if the invoice was wrong but would actually raise it with them in order to avoid such a situation.

And my 5 week late sofa took 3 months to make - another five weeks wasn’t the end of the world to me.

DessertQueen · 05/02/2020 19:09

Sorry OP you’re being unreasonable and you know it. I say that as someone who is currently 22 weeks pregnant and suffering with various things and had severe SPD in my last pregnancy too.

MummytoCSJH · 05/02/2020 19:10

YANBU. I certainly wouldn't be paying the extra and would kick up a massive fuss if they expected me to as 1) it's their error, 2) they have invoiced you and the discount is clearly listed on there (so why would you query it, assuming they know how to do their jobs?) and 3) this chaos with delivery has just made it worse. You need your sofa asap due to the pain - hormones or not - and would have probably gone elsewhere knowing it wouldn't have been delivered when you wanted it like most people do if a shop is out of stock/unable to deliver on time. If it doesn't bother others like @SinglePringle to have things delivered late/whenever the shop fancies rather than when they need it Hmm that's fine but it's not what you agreed to and I wouldn't be happy at all.

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2020 19:10

Because it was an error, and moreover you knew (or suspected) it was an error.

Yep Smile
