Not saying hello to dog walker

My husband and I are both able to work from home a couple of times a week but we have a dog walker for consistency.

I mostly just shout hi to her or pretend I'm not in. Dh thinks I'm rude for not going up to dog walker and saying hello in person. Can't be arsed tbh. Especially if I haven't bothered to put my bra on!

Do you say hello every time?

I suspect she knows I'm in which makes it a bit weird eg she sometimes reminds my dog she won't be walking her tomorrow as she has a dentist appointment (in a loud voice)

It's fine OP. She's there for your dog anyway not to socialise with you. Not everyone likes chit chat anyway so she might appreciate not having to make the effort either!

I love chatting to our dog walker, on the rare occasion I see her.

If I'm presentable and not busy I always say hi...which isn't that often as I wear pjs when I work remotely.

I just thought shouting hi was ruder tbh.

I think you're being incredibly rude. You sound as if you think the dog walker is just the 'hired help'. Not a very nice attitude at all, really.

It's rude but it's something I would do and then get told off for I'm pretty socially awkward and I'm the kind of person that runs around hiding from the window cleaner. I'd at the very least though just shout down or pip your head round to say hi then just explain you can't chat because of work etc

Just pop out in your jammies and say hi.

She might be glad that she can just come in, pick up/drop off dog, and be on her way, regardless of whether there's anyone in or not.

Maybe you could have a conversation with her on an occasion when you're dressed - say that you're aware that you don't always call out when you're in & working upstairs, but if she ever wants to ask/say something, feel free to call up the stairs!

Very rude, OP. You need to treat people you hire with a little respect and common decency.

It IS rude. You don't have to have a long chat or anything if you don't like small talk but at least say hello, it's common decency. I can't imagine someone coming to my house and not saying hello to them.

No I absolutely do not view my dog walker as hired help at all. My dog has a lot of health problems and my dog walker is just amazingly accommodating and understanding. I buy gifts for my dog walker (and her kids) here and there to show my appreciation that my girl is in safe hands.

If I do say hi I always offer her a coffee/hot choc to carry on the walk - told her to help herself if she fancies a brew. I'm really not a monster.
