Not saying hello to dog walker

liferr · 29/01/2020 14:28

My husband and I are both able to work from home a couple of times a week but we have a dog walker for consistency.

I mostly just shout hi to her or pretend I'm not in. Dh thinks I'm rude for not going up to dog walker and saying hello in person. Can't be arsed tbh. Especially if I haven't bothered to put my bra on!

Do you say hello every time?

Aibu?

I'm willing to bet it won't even register with her as a thing. She'll be in and out of houses all day, mostly with people at work, and just focusing on the dogs.

I actually feel bad if I'm downstairs when our dog walker comes as my dog gets doubly excited and I worry she feels like I'm hovering over her while she gets DDog's harness on etc. In her shoes, I'd just want to be left to it!

TigerOnATrain · 29/01/2020 15:33

Incredibly rude.

I thought your post was going to say you can't be arsed to make conversation with a dog walker, that you see when you were walking your own dog. Which is fair enough (albeit a bit miserable.)

But not talking to your OWN dog walker is rude and obnoxious, and the height of ignorance!

YABU, and I agree with a pp that you sound bone idle. You work from home and can't be arsed to take your dog for a walk yourself.

And I don't give a shit if 'a few dog walkers on this thread think it's fine....' The OP asked if we think it's rude, and I think it is. I (and other posters) are entitled to say they think it's rude, especially as the bloody OP asked people if they thought it was rude!!! Hmm Don't ask if you don't lie the answers eh???

AND two thirds of voters (so far) think she is rude and unreasonable. That is a high perecentage!

TigerOnATrain · 29/01/2020 15:34

That post of mine (from 15.33) ^ was to @liferr obviously.

liferr · 29/01/2020 15:35

All the comments stating I view her as an inferior couldn't be more wrong. She really gives me peace of mind.

I'm very friendly when I do see her.

I work part time from home and we have a dog walker Confused If that's bone idle so be it. Works for us! What a ridiculous statement.

bugbhaer · 29/01/2020 15:35

She's working. Most employers wouldn't give people a paid hour off to go walk their dog, WFH is no different.

And most people who work all day don't get a dog Confused

@DesLynamsMoustache

I think it's bone idle and I am entitled to that opinion.

Working from home and getting someone else to walk your dog = bone idle. IMO.

DesLynamsMoustache · 29/01/2020 15:39

You're totally entitled to your opinion. But it's shite Grin

ThursdayLastWeek · 29/01/2020 15:40

I think it’s fine.
She obviously doesn’t mind either if she’s been doing the job for a year.

Lolwhat · 29/01/2020 15:40

So rude🤢

DesLynamsMoustache · 29/01/2020 15:42

Unfortunately OP, you've invoked the holy trinity of things MN gets irate about:

Working from home and actually working instead of doing domestic chores
Having a dog
Being in the fortunate position you can afford to pay someone to help make your life easier

Azura2019 · 29/01/2020 15:42

Someone coming in to your house, the least you can do is acknowledge them! I say hello and greet them if I'm not on a call or in the middle of something m. I also say thank you when they bring the dog back. A little courtesy/ manners goes a long way. If I'm on a break, I offer a hot drink, they always decline due to having other dogs in the car or rushing off but I feel better for offering them, especially in the cold / rainy weather.

LonginesPrime · 29/01/2020 15:43

Working from home and getting someone else to walk your dog = bone idle.

You still need childcare for young children when you WFH, so why is it any different with a dog?

You can't be expected to concentrate on clients or emails or whatever it is you do while simultaneously looking after someone else or leaving the house for errands/dog waking.

It's not laziness - it's because people working from home (and I mean genuinely working from home, not "working from home" as in a sneaky duvet day) are otherwise engaged.

Eckhart · 29/01/2020 15:44

@TigerOnATrain How is one supposed to walk ones dog whilst one is in Skype meetings all day, or eating one's lunch?

We don't know what the OPs work is, but I bet it's not 'being in a field with a dog'. When I work from home I still have to abide by office hours. Not all WFH people have the liberty of wandering off whenever they fancy.

I do wonder sometimes what people think working from home is. Is it just viewed as a day off?

Rubyupbeat · 29/01/2020 15:44

How does your dog walker pick up your dog? Mine knocks, so we are face to face....those days I make sure I have a bra on hes a 25 year old lad, I'm a 56 year old woman, it would traumatised him....

TigerOnATrain · 29/01/2020 15:44

@DesLynamsMoustache

Touched a raw nerve have I?

You're VERY defensive. Wink

TigerOnATrain · 29/01/2020 15:45

@Eckhart

PMSL! I've heard it all now Grin

Nice try though. Wink

liferr · 29/01/2020 15:45

My retired mum stays with my dog when Dh and I are out during the day. My girl has an amazing life.

She fusses over him but doesn't have the strength to walk him to the fields and back.

I walk my dog everyday at 7 - twice if Dh is not in. And we attend agility training together. She is groomed daily, played with often and even massaged. I'm far from a lazy owner.

1forAll74 · 29/01/2020 15:45

It's odd behaviour really. It doesn't take many minutes to say hello to someone who comes to call. I bet your dog is pleased to see her anyway, tail wagging etc. !

TigerOnATrain · 29/01/2020 15:45

And I have worked from home before, so know you @DesLynamsMoustache and @Eckhart are talking shyte. Grin

liferr · 29/01/2020 15:46

My dog walker has a key.

OP posts:
DesLynamsMoustache · 29/01/2020 15:47

Not at all. I work part time, have a dog walker and loads of free time to do what I like. I will happily be called bone idle by you Grin It's great

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 29/01/2020 15:47

I run a doggy daycare/overnight business and started out as a dog walker. I would have appreciated you shouting out a quick “hello/hi” but insisting on a pointless chat would have irritated me, as time is money. I was paid to walk the dogs for an hour and being kept back, would have held me up for other collections and your dog would still have been walked for an hour. You’re eating into my day and making it longer than it needs to be.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 29/01/2020 15:49

Point out to your husband that he’s keeping the walker back and he’s being unfair as it’s her time that he’s wasting, while not paying for it.
