To ask what the secret is behind the Maltesers box?

Just that really: what is the box design all about? Why is there the circular hole? What are the perforated quarter circles for? Is it all some advanced alien technology or am I just too dense to understand a basic cardboard box?

The circular hole is so that you can pop the lid back down when you want to save the rest. There a raised circle above it that should slightly click down into that little circle to keep the lid closed.

But I’d like to meet one person who doesn’t eat the entire box in one sitting..

YicketyYackMamasBack · 02/02/2020 05:05

I’m wrong, but my theory was good.

To ask what the secret is behind the Maltesers box?
AlCalavicci · 02/02/2020 05:13

This thread has proper made me chuckle , its been a long while since I have read a genuinely funny thread on MN

I want a box full now ,

Ah I have a tub of horlicks , >> licks spoon and sticks it in malty powder and sucks

YicketyYackMamasBack · 02/02/2020 05:24

@Alcalavicci

Sounds like the perfect Malteser hot chocolate recipe.. drooling, I’m so jealous.

AlCalavicci · 02/02/2020 05:32

I may be gone some time . . .

To ask what the secret is behind the Maltesers box?
AlCalavicci · 02/02/2020 05:37

IT WORKS ! , I needed to add a bit more cocoa powder but it works .

Now I seriously need to ask myself why am I eating horlicks and cocoa powder at 5.30am Confused

@Poptasmagorical
You have a lot to answer for ! Grin

Oilyoilyoilgob · 02/02/2020 05:53

@AlCalavicci that is a GENIUS idea! The only sad thing is I have neither cocoa or Horlicks powder ☹️

I’m not a chocolate lover ducks but I love maltesers, and the mikado chocolate sticks.

AlCalavicci · 02/02/2020 06:01

@Oily you need to get some , but beware its messy eating it

I am now wondering how I can make horlicks powder into balls and cover them in cocoa . . . any ideas ?

lborgia · 02/02/2020 06:07

Given my love of cheesecake, I would probably smoosh the Horlick into cream cheese, and swirl through with melted chocolate...or similar.

That was a serious cooking question, wasn’t it? Blush

AlCalavicci · 02/02/2020 06:34

I'm not a big lover of cheesecake but I can certainly see how that would work

I think what I need is some very small round moulds that I can fill with horlick powder and then drop the tiny bit of water in and see if it will set it'll take a serious amount of experiments though

SlowSigh · 02/02/2020 09:46

I like to put a malteser in the roof of my mouth and gently push up with my tongue until it melts.

I can make a box last hours.

lborgia · 02/02/2020 11:06

What about melted chocolate (white maybe?), a little melted butter, and just blend in as much horrifies as you can. Or condensed milk? Have funGrin

AlCalavicci · 02/02/2020 12:11

I have been thinking about this way too much ,
A small ice cube tray that makes round 'cubes' Confused already
horlicks , condensed milk and a syringe or dropper of some sort to add tiny bits of the milk to the horlicks . Let it set then dust the balls in cocoa powder .
I think I will just go out and buy a box of ready made ones ! Grin

Gemforfreee · 02/02/2020 12:41

Does anyone remember Horlicks tablets?

AlCalavicci · 02/02/2020 13:10

Ohh yes I loved them , I was never sure why you only get them from a chemist though. Unless it was seen as a food supplement type of thing ?

jaffaeclipse · 02/02/2020 13:20

Ohh yes I loved them , I was never sure why you only get them from a chemist though

I was about to say exactly the same thing. Annoyingly I now want Horlicks and I've just come back from the supermarket without any.

I miss chocolate ginger nuts, they were the best biscuits.

Butteredtoast55 · 02/02/2020 13:30

I have just discovered a box of Maltesers I was given at Christmas and had forgotten about and am disproportionately happy!

AlCalavicci · 02/02/2020 17:13

@jaffaeclipse
umm dissolve some maltesers in some hot milk Grin

Jojo2wyatr · 02/02/2020 18:15

Ok, I must confess....Ive never heard of Maltesers... I guess they are one of the UKs National secrets that haven't been shared with the US.... they sound delectable! I've been trying not to drool as I read about these maltesers that have MNers sneaking out in the night wearing pyjama tops, digging into high cabinets, waiting until DC are in bed, and getting ready to divorce DH for not disclosing, etc.for as long as I can stand it! I must try them for myself! They probably have them in the British Food Shops here, but I imagine they arent as fresh as the ones in the UK....So,I have booked my flight from Southern Calif, USA to Heathrow so I can indulge in some of these Maltesers that are causing such a intriguing thread on MUMSNET!
Oh, and by the way, to the poster who demands that MNers need to "get a life" for enjoying talking about Maltesers....do you not realise that because of this post, these delectable little candies have contributed to the national economy by encouraging an unusual buying run on Maltesers? And now have inspired international travel? Wink

Poptasmagorical · 02/02/2020 19:16

@Jojo2wyatr maybe Maltesers can save the economy from the upcoming Brexit disaster! I don't want a New Years honour but I'll take a box of maltesers. By box I mean crate, obviously. I have saved the UK after all.

OP posts:
lborgia · 02/02/2020 19:41

@Jojo2wyatr - there's probably a place for you on the New Year's Honours List for services to the UK... Lady Jojo? Or at the very least an MBE (Malteser of the British Empire....)!

Spieluhr · 02/02/2020 19:44

Have they changed Maltesers? I'm eating a box now and they aren't the way they used to be. They taste a little stale though don't expire for close to a year and the chocolate tastes like cheap advent chocolate. It doesn't taste at all creamy or very chocolatey.

AlCalavicci · 02/02/2020 20:30

@Jojo2wyatr can you get Horlicks and cocoa powder over there , if you can try my experiment ( posted at around 5.30 this morning . its not the same but you get the idea of what they taste like .

Jojo2wyatr · 03/02/2020 02:27

@Iborgia .Why, thank you! I humbly accept this great honour that has been bestowed upon me! I'll take Lady Jojo if it's still availableGrin
Yes @Poptasmagorical, you have saved the UK from disaster...your efforts will be written in the history books for future generations to study....right up there with the Dutch Tulip Mania, only without the collapse
@AlCalavicci, I will have to scour the shops, although I've never heard of Horlicks. But I'll be sure to pick up some on my Maltesers trip to London...if you're not careful , you could also stimulate the UK economy by causing a run on Horlicks powder.
Well done, MNers!
Now, as you were

Jojo2wyatr · 03/02/2020 06:21

@Poptasmagorical
I have a sneaky feeling that the Maltesers company will be getting in contact with you to ask if they may use your photograph on their newest post-Brexit packaging...marketing campaign to be called @Poptasmagorical saves the UK......As compensation you will receive a lifetime supply of the delectable little balls candies..but only if you promise NOT to share them with a single soul...it is only right after your efforts to boost the UKs economy
