I am waiting with interest to find out what happens next, following on from this afternoon's talks at Sandringham.

Poor old Queen. She can't have finished the leftover turkey yet and here she is, embroiled in another crisis.

I do wonder whether any of her Alist friends will actually want to be associated with her, now that she’s so obviously chasing money.
The Sussexes May now come across as a bit grubby and Kardashian like.

Serena Williams has just won her first grand slam and donated all of her winnings to the Australian relief effort.
The Obamas have the greatest respect for the Queen and are decent people; I’m not sure they will like the disrespect the Sussexes have shown the Queen.
I think only Oprah will be interest so that she can interview them.

They’ve swapped being part of history for Disney voiceovers and Netflix documentaries.

I reckon one more baby, so Meghan can flog the photos.
That might string out their relationship for a couple more years...

Anyway; what about a Harry’s charities: Invictus; Sentebale?
He’s got loads of patronages. Is he going to do a Diana and dump them?

Cremebrule · 13/01/2020 21:25

I don’t understand why they issued the first press statement. They could have had the Canada thing without all the hate and made sure it was properly thought through and announced. It’s all bonkers really and their PR has been atrocious.

NumbersStation · 13/01/2020 21:26

PH is reaping what he sows really.

IF his family members are turning their backs on him, he needs to remember he shunned them and what they’ve stood for all their lives.

Bit of a kick in the teeth really.

That said, I really do think that MM should’ve been by his side. If their intentions are indeed honourable and supportive of the queen, then it wouldn’t have been too difficult.

BillieEilish · 13/01/2020 21:27

kinsss I think you're right! I hope you're right!

In Europe, when you get divorced if a child is involved, the starting point is HG, so, most divorcing couples and courts follow this. The DC belongs in the country of birth and one parents nationality in this country (me and DH are not divorced but even to go on holiday now, I need a notarised document from him, giving permission and him me)

I googled and got something different but not as official looking as you Grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 13/01/2020 21:27

don’t understand why they issued the first press statement

Pushing their agenda; aggressive; American approach

Grinchly · 13/01/2020 21:29

Re the HMQ statement.

What struck me was the use of the first person. It is very very unusual in a palace statement on her behalf.

It does convey a sense of empathy as intended, but an interesting départure.

Bluntness100 · 13/01/2020 21:30

I think he had to issue the statement, she wasn't doing any more engagements in the U.K. for the foreseeable future. He had to issue it.

SerenDippitty · 13/01/2020 21:34

The queen was never going to issue a statement saying she was hurt and upset. It’s all about damage limitation.

OVienna · 13/01/2020 21:34

Well, with any luck Harry will be in for a mind blowing divorce settlement from Meghan.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 13/01/2020 21:35

I think Meghan has got to the point she literally cannot stand to be in the UK anymore. I would guess the six weeks off have made her think she just can't face going back. I don't understand why they came back for that visit to Canada House but she left as soon as she possibly could. Her A list friends are all chasing money and fame themselves. That's what she's used to.
I think Harry will be on a plane as soon as his engagement is done on Thursday and we won't see him for dust.
It's criminal Frogmore will sit there empty.

BillieEilish · 13/01/2020 21:36

FWIW I like Bluntness100's posts. Why would you launch in on her/him? Hmm Odd.

Laiste · 13/01/2020 21:36

Palace says:''It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK.''

Forgive me if i'm being thick but I thought spending time in both the Canada and the UK was the final aim of the game. But if that's the 'transition' bit - what happens after that? Is this a veiled hint that Meghan doesn't come back ever?

eminencegrise · 13/01/2020 21:39

I'm amazed she's not here hanging off him. I mean, they've been all but plugged into each other the past two years. Hardly ever seen not grasping each other. Now she's thousands of miles away and left him to it?

BillieEilish · 13/01/2020 21:39

I don't think she's ever coming back. She likes a torched earth method in her life.

OVienna · 13/01/2020 21:40

(Just read that Mail article.)

Do you know what, If they'd announced these intentions from the get go, fair play. It's the running down of the RF and life in the UK more generally seemingly as "cover" to justify it that is so gross. Neither one of them would have been able to leverage this sort of good fortune on their own steam.

Too bad Beatrice or Eugenie couldn't have married the dude who played Matthew Crawley off Downton Abbey- think if the gin we'd all be rolling in.

yolofish · 13/01/2020 21:42

If my DH was in a similar kind of them or me situation (cant think why it would happen) and there was so much stake would I fuck be on the other side of the world.

It cant be that important to MM, rushing back to the baby is more so they can both be out of the country I reckon. But shame on her for leaving him to face the music alone.

Wheresthebeach · 13/01/2020 21:42

I think she'll pop back, not get the adoring crowds - have a temper tantrum and leave again. Rinse and repeat over the years.

Frankly I just want shot of them both now. As long as my taxes don't go to support them then that's fine.

For her to run away like that was pathetic. Archie could have come with them no problem. She's created chaos and then run away to hide. No doubt a load of interviews will follow. Gah.

LotteLupin · 13/01/2020 21:43

I could do with a free house. They should donate Frogmore to me ... 🙂 I'm really deserving and I actually like Prince Philip and would go for drives with him (might not actually let him drive though!)

SeperatedSwans · 13/01/2020 21:43

Meghan basically quit her job in a public Instagram post and then didn't turn up for the disciplinary meeting 🤦🏻‍♀️

She obviously won't "work" out her notice. Harry has been sent in to finish the deal, and then he will also return the end of this week and they will not be seen till a wedding or a funeral whichever comes first. They've turned in to "those" family members.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 21:44

And branding the British Public as racist.

Absolutely shameful behaviour.

I wouldn’t cross the street to piss on her if she was on fire.

NoCountry · 13/01/2020 21:44

I think he had to issue the statement, she wasn't doing any more engagements in the U.K. for the foreseeable future. He had to issue it

But he didn't really, the RF could have issued some statement in the usual way. the fact that they went ahead and blared out in such a highly emotive and divisive way, without consulting Her Madge, why do that?

If they had taken more time to consult all the family properly they might have been able to have a nice little number going as the Canadian wing of the RF, something quietly cooked up specially for them. The way they announced it made that impossible

StarbucksSmarterSister · 13/01/2020 21:45

It will be weird to think that the King (Charles) won't have much if at all contact with his grandson

Overblown rubbish. He's hardly on a state pension and too poor to visit. They are always travelling all over the world, no reason at all they won't see him. Plenty of people have children who move to other countries.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 13/01/2020 21:47

don’t understand why they issued the first press statement

I thought they'd heard the Sun was about to release the story?

AMillionMugsNoTeabags · 13/01/2020 21:47

I’m baffled by anyone who thinks this was all about taking a step back from the limelight and just being a family together. That’s what W and K did on Anglesey (did they do many if any official duties during that time?) and apparently with QEII’s blessing because she remembered her own Malta time with such fondness.

H and M would have had no difficulty doing the same, even abroad, at least temporarily - maybe a year - and that could have been extended without much fuss.

In order to cause family summits and the requirements for detailed plans, there must have been something more to it; the monetisation of the RF name. And my reading of the statement is that, very surprisingly, the RF have blinked.
