I am waiting with interest to find out what happens next, following on from this afternoon's talks at Sandringham.

Poor old Queen. She can't have finished the leftover turkey yet and here she is, embroiled in another crisis.

I thought it was Jake Quickendon?

Butterymuffin · 13/01/2020 20:16

I think she's had a terrible time of it in the media and there has certainly been racism in the mix. That said, 20 months is not a long time for something like settling into a new country / family / social status. So I find myself thinking that she hasn't given it much of a go. However, she must have reached a state of mind where she wants to escape now. We see it all the time on relationships threads. Plus I've known two people who gave up comfortable secure jobs to go freelance, and both of them had the option to take a year off unpaid but still have the right then to come back to their job if they wanted. In their shoes I'd definitely have taken advantage of that, but neither of them wanted to. Once they'd decided to go, they wanted to cut ties permanently very quickly and scorned the idea of a safety net. That seems to be Meghan's current mindset. Not sure if it's also Harry's.

NumbersStation · 13/01/2020 20:17

Have I got it wrong @MrsBrentford?Blush

astralweaks · 13/01/2020 20:18

We don't know her, we don't know the Royals (as much as we might like to think we do).

Ah but the Royal Family, like them or loathe them, are part of our heritage. There is a huge difference.
She is inconsequential.

superfandango · 13/01/2020 20:19

I think if William has had an affair, Kate is a wonderful actress. Certainly a better actress than Meghan.

I was going to say that derxa Grin

Sparklyyear · 13/01/2020 20:19

^Thing is; leave aside being wealthy / royal
Harry is now giving up everything for Meghan’s happiness.
His family, his country, his heritage.
^

I wouldn't worry about Harry, I reckon he'll be back before long.

SeperatedSwans · 13/01/2020 20:20

Harry is indeed very close to all his first cousins, as they have been such a close not, all be it dysfunctional family at times. But the dysfunctional behaviour comes from the generations above William, Harry, Eugenie, Beatrice, Zara et Al's generation.

I think Kate who is also very close to Zara and their children often play together did at one point state she was looking forward to the cousins (Archie and her children) growing up together. That now will not happen Archie will be raised seperatley from his paternal family, he won't really know them at all I imagine.

It will be weird to think that the King (Charles) won't have much if at all contact with his grandson. When you think of the Queen with William and Harry in contrast.

To be fair part of me worries Archie may get left out, and when he is a teen and his 1st cousins George and Charlotte are having the champagne socialite time his own father had (Vegas) and Archie is mates with Beyonce's kid watching spoilt American brats party he may feel a bit like how come I don't get that. We all know what teens are like, the grass is always greener....

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 20:20

I have no idea Grin

NoCountry · 13/01/2020 20:20

The divorce is going to be carnage

IdaBWells · 13/01/2020 20:21

Meg and Hazza have 10m followers, Kim Kardashian has 150m, Meg has a long way to go to scramble to that level.

I have to say I was very “meh” about it all but now the way Harry has treated his family: grandparents, dad, brother and we now find Charles gave them extra “hundreds of thousands” for their wedding, to furnish the house and clearly for her extremely expensive wardrobe and they have given it less than two years.

It seems pretty clear they weren’t willing to just sit back and have a quiet couple of years while they raised their baby and built their marriage, there was a need for constant (positive) attention, Instagram worthy “jobs” such as an edition of Vogue etc.

I just feel they should be let go with no Royal titles or cash to “live the dream”. I really think it’s extremely unlikely that the grass will be greener ultimately. I am in the USA and not only do most people not care about them but they receiving exactly the same headlines about how they treated the Queen, so what is filtering though is not positive.

They have lived up to the worst press stories. It’s sad.

RubyViolet · 13/01/2020 20:21

Alexis Ohanian’s tweet today is being interpreted as being directed to MM. twitter.com/alexisohanian/status/1216652543494737920

Maybe the celeb friendships aren’t so sound after all.

The80sweregreat · 13/01/2020 20:22

I am appalled if people think the whole of the U K are racist! That is so stupid and implies that Americans and other nations are not? Really ?
Yes there are people that are of course but not every single person! The press treated her badly for sure ( they like to pull a woman down regardless of who they are ) but that's not the entire British public is it? The man or woman in the street can't control the daily mail or the sun : the comments on their pages are not all from Brits either!
I'm sad that people think our county is all like this when we are not. Most people don't really care about any of the Royals or what H snd M are up to and never have.

TVdinners · 13/01/2020 20:23

The whole thing really pisses me of. This pair had just about the best that Britain can offer for that wedding. A ceremony in an ancient royal castle dating back to Norman times, the final resting place of Tudor kings and queens. The music, the choirs, the horses, carriages, everything.

However, apparently now they want to step back. Why couldn't they have stepped back before they got married and had a ceremony in a register office ?

Oakenbeach · 13/01/2020 20:23

In all the AIBU/ “dealing with difficult in-laws” posts on MN, it’s always bounced back to the DH. Everyone says “ooh it’s his family & he should sort it”. Except in this case, where everyone seems to have it in for MM. bizarre.

Except the in-laws don’t seem to be being difficult...

Chienloup · 13/01/2020 20:24

How the heck do we know why the DoE left Sandringham? Maybe it's someone else he was avoiding? Most likely he couldn't bear the media circus outside, slathering for their story. Why do people think they know what's in other people's heads? Particularly someone you don't know. Bizarre.

Planeplane · 13/01/2020 20:24

However, she must have reached a state of mind where she wants to escape now.

I'm not sure...it just seems too convenient coming just after their long holiday plotting their next move. Why would she feel that desperation to get away now when she's barely been here for the last couple of months? Far more likely that this has been the plan all along (who knows how long Harry has been in on it.)

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 13/01/2020 20:26

Ah, but did they get the right tiara, tvdinners? Grin

Maybe that’s what went wrong.

scaryteacher · 13/01/2020 20:26

MrsBrentford Dh did 34 years in until he had to retire at the compulsory age for his rank. We still have uniform lurking..I'm using the white shirts for cleaning.

Chienloup · 13/01/2020 20:28

No one owes anyone their life and happiness because they had a nice wedding. Otherwise anyone whose parents paid towards their wedding should be indebted to live a certain life forever. It's all relative, a big wedding for an average family surely costs more in real terms, and amounts to more financial sacrifice, than a Royal Wedding does.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 20:29

It’s always been the plan - the detail on the website.

Someone has clearly taken a Dreamweaver course Grin

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 20:31

@Chienloup thing is - the public funded their wedding.

To then stick two fingers up at us because we dare to critique them because we don’t like their entitled behaviour and we don’t want to fawn all over her is shitty behaviour from members of the RF.

“How the heck do we know why the DoE left Sandringham? Maybe it's someone else he was avoiding? Most likely he couldn't bear the media circus outside, slathering for their story.“

This is such bollocks it’s laughable.
Who do you think he was avoiding, the bloody window cleaner??
Sandringham is a MASSIVE estate. To avoid the press you stay in, not go out for the day.

fallen121 · 13/01/2020 20:36

Won't Meghan still need a visa to live in Canada? Won't Harry need one?
