I am waiting with interest to find out what happens next, following on from this afternoon's talks at Sandringham.

Poor old Queen. She can't have finished the leftover turkey yet and here she is, embroiled in another crisis.

They deserve to be booed at their next appearance lie the panto villains they are. If Meghan has any sense she won't be riding in an open topped carriage any time soon.

In a previous life I had to do a bit of negotiating and sort of PR. One thing I quickly learnt was you need to leave a branch for people to come back from so they feel they’ve had a small win and can come back without feeling like they’ve completely backed down and lost.

I see a lot of that in the wording

Well, I am hoping the emphasis on 'my family' and 'my grandsons family' and calling them by their names only, means she's axed those titles!

And she regrets that they do not wish to be members of the full time Royal family.

I just don't know.
I feel a bit sad really. Have gone now, from liking M, to being apathetic, to having doubts, to disliking her 100%

I feel sorry for the Queen and Harry. I never thought I would have such strong feelings about the Royal family buy apparently I do!

Some posts and points on this threads have been eye opening and some of you should be journalists/writers (if you are not already)

She has called them by their names because they are her family! The emphasis is to show her warmth and support.
The statement also refers to the as "the Sussexes".

If she hadn't called them by their names it would have been comments about how "cold and formal" it felt, and how she was obviously furious.

She very carefully used both.

Oh. Deflated then, was looking for some hope. I truly believe M is utterly horrible and so manipulative towards Harry.

She has caused all this fuss. All this publicity. She barely knows the guy and she didn't try. She doesn't love him.

After that statement, in the subsequent lacuna, any family member saying "Yeah, but.." needs to be shut down..

They have provided enough column inches for a good while.

@scaryteacher thank you for being horribly condescending and patronising. I'm fully aware of who the majority of our cabinet are. To correct you though, I actually don't use capitals to shout. I use them to emphasise as I don't know how to do the italic / bold stuff on here. I do it in texts too.

Hmm to exercise bad timing with announcements etc therefore overshadowing other family members once could be seen as unfortunate, but to do it consistently suggests you are a bit of a tool at the very least.

Well done that Queen. Nine million times more class that any of her children or grandchildren will ever have.
Still think that behind closed doors she is probably pissed off and upset and I kind of hope she told Harry so.

If H and M have any sense they will lay low in their Canadian mansion for a good 6 months and let it all die down.

It's the use of "the Sussexes" that makes me wonder whether they've lost their titles? I get interchanging formal names with Meghan and Harry but why wouldn't it have said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, rather than the Sussexes?

Shame on them for bringing this to the Queen’s door in the twilight of her reign.

Mhygain may well be leading a foofstruck PH by the short and gingers but he should have stamped his foot on the timing/execution.

I don't have a problem with Hull or anywhere really : i just used it as it rhymed with the word dull. I've never been there but I imagine it's not dull at all!
It's just how she might see these type of duties , not as glam as other places she would rather go to! ( they would hate where I was brought up)
They have got their own way on this it seems. I suppose they couldn't say no could they?
I doubt anyone else in the family is happy about it though. It must be upsetting.
We won't see much of her I bet. She will stay away and he will be back and forth.

Meanwhile, back at Anmer, Catharine is waiting for Wills to get home, pacing the kitchen and desperate to know WTF happened!

I cant love Megz, I used to think she was a breath of fresh air but now she just seems to cause turbulence and Hazza has looked so unhappy for a while.

If I was someone who Harry had met in the UK as part of his charity work, I think I’d be feeling quite hurt and let down right now. He’s up and leaving for Canada, and has made it painfully and loudly clear recently how much he hates this country, that he thinks we all a bunch of boring racist lowlifes.

I’d be thinking, did he EVER care about us? Was it all just an act?
