...Scene One?

I think we probably do need a third thread.

Personal marriage issues are just that.

Would anyone enhance their reputation by telling such tales to Oprah's pal? You have to focus on your own "journey".

The pesky Brits might get it in the national neck I suspect!

Let them get on with it. Pay their security from family finds. Move on.

JulietJanuary · 13/01/2020 09:14

The Duchess of Kent renounced her HRH and went to work in a state school in Hull as Mrs Kent for 10 years.

Jillyhilly · 13/01/2020 09:17

God, this thread is moving fast.

The NYT has had several Op/Eds by people saying that the UK is a deeply racist country

New York Times gonna New York Times.

Rootling out racist thought-crime is stock-in-trade for that once great newspaper.

mrscampbellblackagain · 13/01/2020 09:21

I think the timing of all the rumours about William's affair interesting.

Also, Kate is a way better woman than me if he did have an affair and everyone knew and she still invited the mistress to her birthday party! Also, what an actress.

Conformingtoregulations · 13/01/2020 09:22

I so hope William rumours are false 😪

CathyorClaire · 13/01/2020 09:24

EXCEPT Rose and her husband were at Kates birthday weekend in Amner last weekend. They went to church with them.

That pretty much debunked the rumours.

OR there's a narrative being spun...

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 13/01/2020 09:25

I just wish samantha Markle were around to shed some light- she’s been uncharacteristically quite

I think she's been paid warned off.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/01/2020 09:27

I think the photographer Arthur Edwards has it bang on. He’s seen the Princes for their whole lives. He said H is miserable when MM is around. It must be glaringly obviously to the RF as well.

mrscampbellblackagain · 13/01/2020 09:27

Also interesting if Kate and Meghan did stop communicating last year on WhatsApp around the time the affair rumours broke - I am clearly a conspiracy theorist.

I think people must have a really low opinion of Kate to think she would go along with having her husband's mistress at her party for the sake of the narrative.

But after reading these threads, no matter which camp people are in it does seem the majority think it is fine for them to leave but just not to trade on the RF name.

Or is there anyone who thinks they should be able to be a demi-royal with tax payer funding?

SerenDippitty · 13/01/2020 09:28

crispysausagerolls. If this is true then in some ways it’s actually worse than Charles cheating on Diana because he was actually meant to be in love with his wife. But on the other hand it’s how aristocrats have always done things - marry well, produce heir and spare, then (discreetly) amuse oneself with lovers.

The80sweregreat · 13/01/2020 09:32

I know it's the mail comments (!) bit but ' someone in the know' is now saying ( allegedly ) that Kate and William are bullies and she has been horrible and nasty to her in the past!
People may read this and believe it all : ( who knows if it is?) then it's all blown out of proportion! Then it's them that look bad and not H and M and so it goes on and on. The rumour mill goes into overdrive so quickly or it could be Meg's 'people ' putting this about?
Of course it's more speculation or half truths , but it all adds fuel to the fires.

IrmaFayLear · 13/01/2020 09:34

Going back to previous poster, is there anyone (apart from H&M and their advisers) who truly thinks it's acceptable that they should be able to live abroad with UK taxpayer-funded security, be able to use the royal title to sell merchandise, and "represent the Queen" on foreign assignments, yet be able to duck out of opening a community centre in Hull in February?

In fact that strikes me as the worst thing. Fine - leave. It's understandable. But leave everything! It sounds so entitled and downright unpleasant, frankly, to announce that you will basically only be doing glamorous and/or high-profile appearances and will be dumping workaday jobs meeting boring, ordinary folk from dreary parts of the UK.

derxa · 13/01/2020 09:35

So because William had an affair Harry was hustling the head of Disney for work for his wife. Is that it?

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 09:36

Funny though isn’t it how everyone was happy until MM came along?

Harry was desperate to marry and married in haste ...

OVienna · 13/01/2020 09:36

I really do not think William having an affair would trigger Harry cutting himself off. I mean to be blunt- yes you'd care but not start down the road of making your own life exponentially harder as some kind of protest. What would that achieve? I think it's much more likely that any problems are to do with things in their own marriage.

PND? Also crossed my mind. Eight months into being a mother I was not necessarily thinking clearly about my future plans.

IrmaFayLear · 13/01/2020 09:37

Bully = in this case, you're not letting me get my own waaaaaaay. A senior courtier was quoted as saying that nothing was enough: house refurbished to their exact requirements (although considered extravagant), foreign tours of their choosing, time off they wanted... and still there was constant complaining.

longwayoff · 13/01/2020 09:37

Where's Ricky Gervais now we need him? Whose opinion would be more relevant? His or Paul Burrell's?

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 09:37

MM has only been doing the nice bits for ages though.

When she was on “maternity leave” she was rocking up for Wimbledon and Lion King premiere but nothing else?

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 13/01/2020 09:39

I'd love to know what her ex husband is thinking as he observes all this.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 09:41

@WendyMoiraAngelaDarling

Me too...

zafferana · 13/01/2020 09:42

This from October is very prescient on H&M's relationship and I totally agree that she's deliberately isolated him from his family. He was unhappy before - we know that from interviews he did before he met her, and yes maybe she didn't settle here in the UK (mainly because she didn't want to and didn't try) - but I 100% believe that this move is her. The dissing of William too - all her. I don't believe for a moment that William has bullied Harry. It's probably true that as the Queen's reign draws to a close that William's role as future monarch has changed, been formalised and that has probably made Harry feel pushed out, but I don't believe for a moment that William or Kate are responsible for that. Watch the video above about how Meghan has courted publicity and about the hiring of a PR firm to place favourable stories about her in the press since marrying Harry - it's very revealing (annoying though Shallon Lester is!).

DarkOceanWater · 13/01/2020 09:43

I bet the ex-husband has signed an NDA as has the chef - in return for a pay off. Both completely silent, notable that neither has said anything at all of either a positive or negative nature which screams NDA to me.

Rinoachicken · 13/01/2020 09:44

yeah, can’t help but think that Anyone who doesn’t fall over themselves to fawn over her and anyone who dares disagree with her is a bully in Meghans eyes

IrmaFayLear · 13/01/2020 09:45

It's a load of shite about H&M now feeling bullied and Meghan not being able to carry on after her Christmas break. Those US patents for merchandising were filed a year ago . And that's when they were filed; it would have taken a lot longer beforehand to have appointed lawyers, have them drafted etc etc. And the PR firm and advisers were all in place long ago.

I think this plan was hatched almost immediately after the wedding. Launching the bombshell "suddenly" was to blindside the royal family and to make any objections sound "mean" . What I can't understand is how the RF were put on the back foot. Maybe they knew all along but thought Meghan would settle down and things would blow over. I think they didn't realise that she is an ambitious person, not one to settle for pottering around in a tweed skirt and smiling and making smalltalk with the mayor of Drearytown in Drearyshire every so often.
