I think we probably do need a third thread.

I'm not racist and I am going to just ignore anyone who says I am. I used to respond with outrage and when hurt but now IDGAF. These accusations are losing their power now and that's actually quite scary. People are beginning not to care because these accusations are so constantly thrown around.

ElspethFlashman · 12/01/2020 20:11

Ah yes "as I was saying to H..... that's what I call him...."

Such natural unselfconscious delivery there!

😂😂😂😂

Strikes me as more effort to say "Haayj" than to say "Harry" but what do I know, lol.

yellowallpaper · 12/01/2020 20:12

I don't think it's a racist issue, but some people do have suspicions of her motives in marrying a royal. They also find her a bit false and acting the part of a devoted wife. She doesn't seem very natural much of the time, which could of course just be her natural manner. I thinks it's a division between British behaviour and American behaviour. She seems to be acting all the time.

I don't dislike her. I just don't get her. Maybe others feel the same and it shows as hostility?

WRT providing security guards, we paid to protect a dickhead called Salmaan Rushdie for years, so it can't be that big a deal.

Fuzzyhair89 · 12/01/2020 20:13

I personally think Meghan is beautiful. her skin tone is healthy and I'd love her to have such a healthy skin tone all year around. She has a beautiful face and gorgeous hair. I also love her wardrobe. I'm not racist. She's stunning. Nobody has ever said anything to me about her being black. Her personality on the other hand has been discussed. She's also been called beautiful many times. If people are racist towards her then they are arseholes. There is absolutely no need to be racist!

SeperatedSwans · 12/01/2020 20:14

@OxfordCat I have sadly yes, I would have preferred not to because the implications of it on my own life were difficult.

It was done so because of the actions of another and I was dragged in to the circus by it. The flames have died down for now but they will emerge once more I believe but I am prepared to deal with it.

Fuzzyhair89 · 12/01/2020 20:14

@yellowallpaper agreed Grin

AlexaAmbidextra · 12/01/2020 20:16

imagine finding out the press ran her car off the road causing a fatal crash

No. The speeding drunk driver caused the crash.

MRSsqueak · 12/01/2020 20:17

does anyone actually KNOW what their plan is? he has said before he fears history will repeat itself because of the way that megan is being treated by the media. people have said they will make money via media but is that actually the plan?

SunsetBoulevard3 · 12/01/2020 20:18

The press have been saying Elton John has been advising them and on the phone every day. Even if that were the case, how would they know?? I shouldn’t think he would be the best person to give advice...
I think there are a lot of factors at work here. I don’t think she had a clue what she was getting herself into to start with. I think she had an idea it would involve lots of money and status and nice clothes. I think she really believed she could be a Queen of humanitarian causes and get lots of kudos and acclaim for her ‘work’. The matter of protocol or restrictions didn’t enter her head. She thought Harry and herself would be Special People and change the world.
I think it became apparent to her quite quickly that Royal life is quite dull. She couldn’t go out and do things or pop to the shops without security and people papping her. Her every move scrutinised and commented on. Her friends were all in the US and she was lonely. No one to bolster her ego apart from Harry.
She couldn’t relate to her in laws who may as well have come from another planet. She found Kate boring and didn’t like being junior to her since she considered herself more worldly wise and better informed. William was a threat to her as he is senior to Harry and she could tell he didn’t really like her. She didn’t like someone else having Harry’s ear as it threatened her control.
The negative press was a shock as she was used to being lauded and praised. She thought they were being unfair and racist instead of considering how she might not be coming across well.
She got angry bored and upset. She became difficult to live with. Started to think about how she could extract herself. Started bad mouthing her in laws. Harry started to see things her way. He became angry and defensive. Here was another woman he loved being made miserable by the System. He doesn’t intend for his marriage to go the way his parents marriage did.
So Meghan starts to suggest a Plan for their escape and it becomes clear Harry must agree or he will lose his wife and child. His attitude hardens.
Harry becomes angrier and angrier. They both become quite paranoid. They don’t know who they can trust.
Etc. This is the way it seems to me but I may of course be quite wrong.

mindproject · 12/01/2020 20:21

Maybe they just want to clear off before Brexshit happens.

Fuzzyhair89 · 12/01/2020 20:22

@sunsetboulevard3

I agree! Good theary

Haggisfish · 12/01/2020 20:26

I agree too, sunset

Prevegen4U · 12/01/2020 20:34

Remember Harry saying "Meghan will have the family she never had" in an interview shortly after their engagement?

When he said that I thought 'you silly boy, she's got you hook, line and sinker'.

I told my youngest son, if you want to find out how a girl will treat you and your family take a look at how she treats her own. If I had a daughter I would have advised her that how a boy/man treats his mother is how he'll treat you.

caringcarer · 12/01/2020 20:43

@sunsetBoulevard3 I think you have hit the nail on its head. I read tomorrow they will be told they will have to pay to live in Frogmore Cottage at commercial rates. Queen cannot allow them to live in grace and favour of not full-time senior royals. They will also have income tax rules explain ed to them. In UK 40 per cent of Harry's earnings as tax. If spending more than 90 days in Canada H and M must also pay 40 per cent combined income in tax. Meghan as US citizen must also pay tax to US wherever she lives. So more than 80 of all combined income will go as tax. They will also have to find flying to and fro themselves. So much for their fake green credentials. Looks like they will hold Queen to ransom with threat of no holes barred interview with one of Meghan's friends reporter. If I was Queen I would say go and do your worst as you are not blackmailing RF. If I was Late I would have another baby then Harry drops out of top 6 senior royal anyway.

caringcarer · 12/01/2020 20:43

Kate not late.

ElspethFlashman · 12/01/2020 20:45

Agree Sunset

And Elton has a mouth like the Channel tunnel, bless him. If he's talking to them, he's telling everyone.

That said, I suspect he loves the Queen.

Rinoachicken · 12/01/2020 20:46

I suspect he doesn’t - he loved Diana remember

Fraggot · 12/01/2020 20:47

Seems to work well and many other celebs

I was thinking about this earlier. When Amal Clooney got engaged and was constantly in the papers I thought it would never end. There were articles about her fame making it impossible to carry out her job too. Rarely see any mention of her now.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 12/01/2020 20:49

imagine finding out the press ran her car off the road causing a fatal crash all for a picture

More like getting into a car with a drunk driver and nit wearing a seatbelt caused her death. Don't forget she courted and manipulated the press. She's only sainted because she died!

Rinoachicken · 12/01/2020 20:49

Has there been anything from the Spencer’s at all about the whole thing? They never usually miss an opportunity to put the boot in to the RF

knittedgoldfish · 12/01/2020 20:50

There is such a thing as double tax relief. Don't believe all you read in the Daily Mail...

WeWantSweet · 12/01/2020 20:51

Forget the "Royalness" how many times has a partner subverted family loyalties and led to disconnection?

astralweaks · 12/01/2020 20:52

The lass has just quietly got on with her duties and I think PW is lucky to have someone like her at his side.

That is such a nice way to speak of her. Smile

Prevegen4U · 12/01/2020 20:53

if you havent already then go watch the africa interviews. you can hear every ounce of harrys hatred for the media in his voice. aswell as his heartbreak at the loss of his mother because of them as we are lead to believe at least. he says that he is not going to play a game that got his mother killed.... you will all believe what you want tho. harry has always hated the media and being in the spotlight. the only thing that made the intrusion of his privacy bearable was his mother if truth be told. imagine walking behind your mothers coffin as a small child in front of millions and not being allowed to cry. all the while with a camera in your face. imagine finding out the press ran her car off the road causing a fatal crash all for a picture.... still think its megan now?

His mother was killed in a car driven by a drunk. The press didn't run them off the road!. If his mother had bothered to wear her seatbelt she would still be alive.

I recall how Diana would call the press to cover her. Remember when she notified she was going to be in the her Mediterranean with her boyfriend and she swam out the media boat. She did that because Charles was throwing a 50th party for Camilla. I also recall how she would trot down a public street in leotards to go to a public gym and then get furious when the press would trot behind her snapping pictures. She could have set up a gym in her house (like I did at the time) and she could have even called in best trainers. lol I remember how she would shove Charles out of the way if there were cameras around.

Diana had mental issues that were left untreated as far as I know, and sadly it looks like Harry does as well.

Harry wasn't such a "small child" when he walked behind his mother's casket. I think he was 12. When I think of a 'small child' I think of someone 4 to 7.

The80sweregreat · 12/01/2020 20:55

It's sad to see how things have unraveling here. Meghan found it hard to fit in I think ; we've all been there ( I know I did with my husbands friends when we first met and I really did try with them but they didn't like me and that was that) and she began to feel isolated and unhappy I suppose.
I guess she thinks now ' I tried , but now I'm off'. None of it is good. She has made sure she doesn't have to face them about tax and HRH titles or anything : ' H 'will have to sort that out! It's the cowards way out but maybe she had just had enough and couldn't face them.
I can't see them lasting longer than a few years ; she'll forge her career onwards and upwards and he'll be the one isolated and alone I think or just a stay at home dad.
It'll take a lot of bridges with his family to heal the rifts and he'll be back and forth and she won't. I doubt she'll have much to do with them once they move for good : there will always be an excuse of some kind or she'll be too busy on her latest films or projects to bother with engagements in the UK.
It's all a bit sad but I'm sure they will cobble some thing together ; I hope they do really.
Family rifts are horrible and this one seems pretty big.
