...Scene One?

I think we probably do need a third thread.

Fergies kids WHERE there at the toe sucking incident, I remember the front page of the Sun very well, Eugenie was about 2 ish and had her back to the camera, I can even remember what she was wearing, just swimming bottoms and a sun hat, It was that photo that angered the Queen and Prince Philip. So no embellishments from PP.

Afrigginggoat · 12/01/2020 17:53

I seem to remember toddler Eugenie being poolside with Sarah when the toe sucking happened.

BoneyBackJefferson · 12/01/2020 17:59

compulsiveliar2019
Saw this on Facebook and it sums up how I feel

why do you have a desperate need to confer victim hood on MM?

Sofacat · 12/01/2020 18:01

Regarding the big talk with the Queen and Prince Charles tomorrow , will it be solely up to them to decide what happens or will they have had to consult lawyers and accountants due to tax implications?

Needmorecaffine · 12/01/2020 18:01

Fergie has had some awful headlines.

I remember when Diana. And on the scene and the press in her face when trying to get in her car.

MM hasnt had half of what Fergie and Diana had to put up with.

Chartreuse45 · 12/01/2020 18:03

This is the only one I could find. I thought there was a kind of three-quarters one of Beatrice front and left as her mum lay on the lounger. Anyway it seems like Beatrice at least was definitely there.

Needmorecaffine · 12/01/2020 18:03

@Sofacat I would imagine that constitutional lawyers etc would be on hand. The disadvantage for MM is that she will be in the other end of the phone.

ElspethFlashman · 12/01/2020 18:03

Yeah they were there. I'd post the link but it's in my actual memories and I don't know how to download that yet. Grin

LordOfTheWhys · 12/01/2020 18:04

Which is the most feminist position - to portray a savvy, career-driven, female actor as a naive, innocent victim of the media? And present any criticism of her choices as 'bitching' by other women despite not knowing the sex of posters
Or to acknowledge that a savvy, career woman isn't necessarily a victim in her life, career or relationships?

cathyandclare · 12/01/2020 18:06

In saying that Fergie and Diana has it worse, you're ignoring the impact of social media.

In the 80 and 90s stories were all in print and easier to ignore. Today's news, tomorrow's chip paper, and all that. Now, they never ever disappear. You'd have to be very strong not to google yourself, especially having been a successful influencer in the past. The comments on the DM and on Forums about MM are vile. That must be devastating.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/01/2020 18:08

Why was Doria not around for such a long stretch of Meghan’s childhood, does anyone know ? Strange that they didn’t share custody, and that given she lived with her father who seems to have looked after her well , paid for her to go to a good school etc, that it is him she is estranged from.
I have always wondered why he was going to walk her down the aisle at all, when he hadn’t even met Harry.

MrsBrentford · 12/01/2020 18:09

Thing is that she doesn’t seem to take any advice from “the Royal experts” she appears to think she knows best, hence public opinion doesn’t seem to have swayed in her favour.

I notice the Clooneys etc have gone very quiet.

If lots of people are saying she is manipulative and not a very nice person and that is how she is being portrayed, maybe it’s true.

ElspethFlashman · 12/01/2020 18:09

Re: Meghan's salary.

Apparently in the 1st season she was on much less, which was normal considering nobody knew if it'd be cancelled, and it was an ensemble, and she was a nobody.

But then it increased as the show went on. So if she was earning 350k for example, that would be in her final season. It was likely around the 100k mark for the first season, which would be typical for that sort of show and cast.

So the reports of 5 million are based on her earning her last seasons wages from Day 1 which is a mistaken assumption.

It also never takes into account her % due to her publicist(s) and her agent and her manager and her lawyers. And of course her living expenses like rent.

So, whilst nobody knows what it was, it wasn't half as much as people say, and it was gross, not net.

LordOfTheWhys · 12/01/2020 18:10

It's not 'strong' to ignore social media. It's self-preservation especially if you're a woman in the public eye.
Female politicians are getting death threats on social media. There's a real issue with accountability and transparency on Twitter especially.
But H&M aren't targeting social media with their lawsuits. Rather, it's the opposite, they're building their brand on social media.

NotJustACigar · 12/01/2020 18:10

Just because MM hasn't been picked on more than any other woman in history doesn't mean she hasn't had more than she can take from the press or that she deserves to have more abuse piled on her.

And it always seems to me the royals must have had such messed up childhood it's amazing they aren't all even more screwed up than they are. I can't even imagine being in a family where our relationships with each other are secondary to keeping up an institution that is basically like a business while being under constant scrutiny. It doesn't surprise me at all that Harry wants to get away from it all even aside from his desire to protect his wife. As for money well if it weren't for the royal family he wouldn't need security so I think they should pay for that. As for a career that will pay the bills it's not going to happen overnight and they are his family so I don't think it's too off base to think they should help.

But if this meeting tomorrow does all go wrong it will certainly be interesting to hear what they say in the tell-all interview!!

MrsBrentford · 12/01/2020 18:12

The threat of the “tell all” interview is blackmail surely?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 12/01/2020 18:17

I am sure Ann Widdecombe said that Mm would be trouble back in the BB. House. How perceptive.

She absolutely did, @NumbersStation, I thought I was the only one who remembered that. And that was a long time before he negative stories started to come out.

NotJustACigar · 12/01/2020 18:19

It's blackmail yes - I guess also they're really sick of keeping the secrets of people they don't even like or respect (for readings that aren't entirely visible to us) while they're the ones who are getting excoriated in the press. If they dislike the rest of the royal family this much you do have to ask yourself why. My guess is that it's because they're all absolute bastards (with the exception of Kate who Harry still seemed to get on with).

NotJustACigar · 12/01/2020 18:20

Readings = reasons, sorry

BalloonSlayer · 12/01/2020 18:21

I don't think anything that has happened to anyone in the Royal Family (deliberately) at the hands of the media can top the two DJs phoning the hospital & pretending to be the Queen when Kate was in with HG.

When that poor nurse committed suicide . . . Sad . . . how absolutely terrible. If I had been Kate I think that would have sent me over the edge.

stellabelle · 12/01/2020 18:21

I really don't think the kids were present. Where do these embellishments come from? Happy to retract if there's a report saying Bea and Eugenie were looking on at the time.

Butterymuffin both girls were playing around the pool while Fergie was having her toes sucked nearby. I'm old enough to remember the pictures very clearly. The presence of the children was what made the incident so shocking to most people.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/01/2020 18:22

Yes, the threat of the tell-all shows them both in a very nasty light. Who would do that to their family ? To their Grandparents who are in their nineties ? It is upsetting to think that Harry would do such a thing to his own previously loved relations, who do seem to love him.

That would backfire terribly I think.

Mums1234 · 12/01/2020 18:23

Have you looked at their website?

They have stated they want to earn a professional income and they're going to manage their media. They say they find it frustrating they can't put personal photos out!!!

MM has been very smart- she now has fame, money and power.

MrsBrentford · 12/01/2020 18:25

I always thought she would be trouble (and it was all way too quick) all my friends said I was being a bitch Grin

I was also worried they would announce their engagement on my wedding day, which they did Grin

SirVixofVixHall · 12/01/2020 18:25

So they want to retreat from all the attention by putting more personal pics on Instagram....right Hmm
