...Scene One?

I think we probably do need a third thread.

He isn’t though, is he? She was at the christening, in the official photographs, and they have just spent 6 weeks over the holidays in close proximity to her to spend time with her over his first Christmas.

He terms of where they live yes, he was.

Sussexes live in the UK not a peep out of anyone about Doria.

Now that they’ll split their time all the handwringing about ‘isolation’ from the royals.

The80sweregreat · 12/01/2020 14:19

I can't see anything wrong with going to places that are not that glamorous or a bit run
to do your job. It's not as if they are given a train timetable and their fares then told to to stay in the local premier inn off the A1. Its all co ordinated and every last detail is taken care of! They don't know they are born ! 😂

BovaryX · 12/01/2020 14:21

Emily Thornberry said PH had served 20 years in the military when talking about who should pay for their security now. Thats not right is it? surely he is not old enough

Laughable. Did he enlist at 14? If Emily Thornberry is suggesting the UK bankroll security stateside? Expect short shrift from the Brexit voting masses......

PineappleDanish · 12/01/2020 14:24

I very much get the impression that Meghan quite likes the West End Premieres, state visits and worthy charities like soup kitchens and mental health initiatives.

Not so much the drudge work of being a royal like pretending to be really interested in a new factory opening or attending a football match. But you can't pick and choose which bits of being royal you want, can you?

She's having a go at it though...

EmeraldShamrock · 12/01/2020 14:27

I am surprised they ever married.
As a close to middle age divorced actress with sex scenes included.
Tbf I think as MM is a woman of colour they had to be more excepting, to avoid racism accusations.
If she was a white mid 30's divorced actress could they have got so far?

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2020 14:32

What’s wrong with being an actress Confused

The80sweregreat · 12/01/2020 14:32

The Royals always get it wrong on many an occasion. I could never get my head around Prince Harry wearing a nazi uniform or playing snooker in the nude ( who advises these people? Why doesn't anyone tell them it may be a bad idea?)
The brooch was a low ( and very disrespectful) and as for Prince Andrew well , I believe that will be forever covered up and pushed under the radar.
Numerous divorces. I know it happens , but they have had a few scandals with those.. as well as rumours of affairs and so on.
They are a rum bunch when you add it up.
This is just the latest in a long line of troubles.

savethecat · 12/01/2020 14:33

I do not like H or M, at all.

BUT, I will go out on a limb and say that I just watched the Disney clip and actually thought it was quite sweet. He seems to be a genuine fan of his wife and her talents.

Alsohuman · 12/01/2020 14:34

Harry did ten years in the army. Since it seems everyone else’s Google is broken.

GertiMJN · 12/01/2020 14:35

Surely to god you can see a massive difference in the 2 LaurieMarlow ? I mean, being able to maintain a close relationship with one significant relative i.e. Doria in the US in comparison to maintaining rekationships with a wide extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, greatgrandparents etc. in uk.

Bearing in mind, how vocal PH was about the role of his family:
It’s the family that, I suppose, she’s never had ”. A quote from him in 2017 referring to her time with the RF at Christmas, before they were even married.

1forAll74 · 12/01/2020 14:35

I read that they both will either go to Toronto or to LA. Meghan can be an actress again, and Harry can be a pizza delivery man, A royal one, as the USA folks would like that,, and so both making their own money I mean.

The80sweregreat · 12/01/2020 14:37

Emily Thornberry obviously plucked a figure out of thin air! 😂
I'm shocked she thinks the taxpayer should pay for their security back and forth to Canada.
I can't see it going down well with anyone to be honest. It will just ramp up the hostility.

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2020 14:40

They haven’t said they won’t be spending any time in the UK though, have they?

Yet all this frothing about ‘isolation’ that never went the other way.

The80sweregreat · 12/01/2020 14:42

Both Princes ride Motorbikes ( fast ones) and must be great for anonymity behind a bike helmet! Must be a bit of freedom they don't get a lot of usually.
The thought of PH delivering pizzas is funny though or maybe one of the film crew or runners on her latest blockbuster film!

ManonBlackbeak · 12/01/2020 14:43

Aside from the speculation about people dying, surely you can appreciate that this thoroughly awful situation, on top of the Prince Andrew one, must be pretty hard for elderly people to cope with.

I believe the Queen is made from far stronger stuff than most of us, she'll be fine. I was just making the hypothetical point that if anything did happen then H&M would take the flack, even though elderly people die. All the time. Its life.

Butterymuffin · 12/01/2020 14:43

My Google's been busy finding me stories about Grace Kelly's marriage. According to the link below HER father paid a massive dowry for her to marry Rainer (at her urging)! Not her marrying money at all. Says she didn't think most men could cope with her profile.

PixiePowered · 12/01/2020 14:43

I've made it to page 19 but there seems to be a lot of posters sharing the same views as myself.

Most people I know IRL have the "poor Meghan, what a victim" mindset. She seems to have spun a story about how much adversity she has overcome to get to where she is/was - her race, her family situation. That isn't the case.
Yes her parents divorced but many children come from separated families, it doesn't make her special or unique. Her father helped introduce her to people who helped further her career, as much as she may hate him he helped her get to where she was. She wasn't brought up in poverty but attended private schools and lived in Hollywood. Her life wasn't as hard as it is made out to be.

She seems to care about no one bar herself and will use and drop anyone when she does. I think she envisioned Suits helping her achieve worldwide fame and the lifestyle she has now, imaging herself as the next George Clooney, Will Smith or Jennifer Aniston in terms of TV show to movie success and fame. That didn't happen and then along came Harry.

There is no way in hell she didn't realise what she was in for. I think she saw the glamour and fame, the way Kate is now viewed so positively and she thought she could walk in and have that without changing.
Instead she realised that she will always be second or third fiddle in any room that senior Royals are in; that Kate spent years learning the ropes and that the LA lifestyle wasn't compatible with the monarchy. However she has used all of this to her advantage again and is now dropping it whilst counting on it providing her the fame she believes she deserves.

catgirl1976 · 12/01/2020 14:47

I wonder if the Queen will bring up the fact that MM does not have legal custody of her son up the meeting.

GertiMJN · 12/01/2020 14:49

Laurie
For the record, I don't give a shiny shite where they live. But your argument about attitude to Doria vs RF is ridiculous.

Its very simple logiistics. If Sussexes lived full time in uk, the amount of time needed to visit and maintain a relationship with Doria is tiny in comparison to the time needed to make any meaningful relationships with RF relatives.

Nothing to do with lack of hand wringing for Doria per se.

GertiMJN · 12/01/2020 14:50

in comparison to the time needed to make any meaningful relationships with RF relatives if they moved out of UK

ElspethFlashman · 12/01/2020 14:53

The "legal custody" thing has been discussed ad nauseum, it's a pointless thing to even mention. Nobody is enforcing some archaic law.

mindproject · 12/01/2020 14:54

What’s wrong with being an actress

There's nothing wrong with being an actress, but the aristocracy look down on them as "showgirls".

LaurieMarlow · 12/01/2020 14:55

But your argument about attitude to Doria vs RF is ridiculous

No it isn’t.

When it was understood that the Sussexes would live full time in the UK, I don’t recall anyone questioning how he’d build a relationship with his maternal grandmother.

When they decided to spend one Christmas away from the RF (after 2 with them) and with Doria there was much criticism online.

Now, having said that they will split their time, suddenly we have the ‘poor Archie so isolated’ frothing.

It seems to be part of this bizarre expectation that when you marry in your own family, friends, life shouldn’t matter.

The80sweregreat · 12/01/2020 14:55

It's a genuine question , but why wouldn't Meghan have legal custody of her own son?
It came up on the last thread too.
Some kind of old law? Maybe the fact he was born in the U.K. and she is American?

iVampire · 12/01/2020 14:57

‘ I wonder if the Queen will bring up the fact that MM does not have legal custody of her son up the meeting.’

Not sure that’s true - doesn’t the law cover their children and grandchildren? HMQ’s longevity and the existence of great-grandchildren not bring envisaged

Of course when PoW becomes king, then they will be custody of the monarch. Though I can’t see why anyone in the Royal Family would object to a Commonwealth upbringing
