What has everybody been doing on Boxing Day

Husband, grown up son and I have just slobbed around in our pyjamas all day & part of me thinks what a waste of a day! In the old days when I was a kid we used to have big family parties with people sleeping on the floor as all the beds were taken. We've all been busy doing nice Xmassy stuff in the run up to Xmas, then the big day itself. Had quite a few people for dinner & evening buffet. Me & my sister & our husbands could have got together today & perhaps invited others but we've both ran out of steam. Feel like we're missing out on some brilliant Boxing Day extended family get togethers like we used to have in the 70's.

Assembling a new bed!

Treaclepie19 · 26/12/2019 17:10

Sometimes we all need a rest!
We've had a "restful" day. I got bored and tidied up a bit instead.
I'm planning a lot more sorting this week so we can do some entertaining sometime soon.

Had a nice brunch of leftovers with the in laws before they left. DC's have been building lego ad other crafty stuff they got for Christmas. I watched a random documentary and fell asleep on the sofa. Every time I feel a little less full I snack on leftovers.

Same as last year and yesterday, in my mums hospital.

SoftBlocks · 26/12/2019 17:14

Walk, scrabble, G and T’s, Mario Kart, turkey curry and Zimstrerne (amazing German almond and cinnamon biscuits).

Still on holiday. Visited the spa today, scrubbed, showered and thoroughly polished. Trying not to think about the fact that he be got to go home on Saturday.

x2boys · 26/12/2019 17:16

Ha ha yes Boxing day in the 70,s and 80,s was always a big family party at my Paternal.Grandparents my dad is one of. Six siblings so there was loads of cousins etc , Today is my son,s birthday we haven't done very much really I don't think we all over did a bit yesterday so I made a buffet tea and we had birthday cake he's 13 so he's happy enough with his consoles and new phone .

FrenchyQ · 26/12/2019 17:16

We slept in this morning, then went to the shops, which was fairly busy. Back home in the warm now, contemplating making turkey curry.

PJ day here - everyone has helped themselves to food and done nothing all day - perfect!

christmasstress · 26/12/2019 17:18

Sodding nothing as I'm bloody ill. All the extended family get together at my aunts and everyone but me has gone, including my 8 year old DD. I'm feeling bloody sorry for myself. Watching ratatouille on TV and debating what effect baileys will have on my sinuses.

DrReed · 26/12/2019 17:18

Working. Was working yesterday as well. What I wouldn't give to be slobbing around in my pjs with my kids.

Stereomum · 26/12/2019 17:20

I was just saying to Ds how on boxing day there was always a big family party at grandparents. DH back to work today so me, ds and dd been slobbing round all day watching crap and grazing.

TheChippendenSpook · 26/12/2019 17:20

TheChippendenSpook · 26/12/2019 17:20

Resting for*

GooodMythicalMorning · 26/12/2019 17:20

Im unwell, dh is at work. The kids have helped a bit with cleaning and looking after the dog in between playing with their new stuff and watching films. I have been pottering around cleaning and tidying but not in any mad rush just gently. watched gavin and stacey special again for the second time but with the kids.

ClashCityRocker · 26/12/2019 17:22

I must admit, after the rush of Christmas day (albeit thoroughly enjoyable) I love boxing day as a chill out day. I need a day or so to recharge my batteries and there are plenty of family get togethers happening over the next week or so. Embrace it op!

ReadyPayerTwo · 26/12/2019 17:23

@christmasstress me too! My family are at a big Boxing Day do at one of my DH's brothers and I had to stay at home with a chest infection.

Hoping they'll be back in time for us to watch Paddington 2 together (best Christmas film ever IMO)!

CoffeeCoinnesseur · 26/12/2019 17:23

Had a lovely lie in. Walked the dog, got back home and into clean pj's as we got soaked on the walk.

Eaten crap, watched tv, had a bit of a tidy up and a look through some of our gifts, just doing some fresh roast potatoes to go with all the leftovers from yesterday and about to have a glass of champagne.

Just the 3 of us all day, it's been lovely!

Namethecat · 26/12/2019 17:24

Changed the beds, put a wash on. Gave the kitchen a good clean.
Watched a couple of trashy films. Not doing any cooking today , just eating nibbly bits .
Been in pjs since about 4pm , not planning to do anything else except watch tv and munch on all our goodies.

EL8888 · 26/12/2019 17:24

Not much! Bacon butties after a lie in. The pub for a few drinks and some scrabble. Then a walk. Lolling on the sofa right now and having an Indian feast later on

Chancey1982 · 26/12/2019 17:25

Dropped kids off at their dad's for their second Xmas, visited family for 5 hours, then home to wine and cleaning and a tv night with the dog.

RaininSummer · 26/12/2019 17:25

Tidied up a bit and sorted beds after yesterday and family staying over, then off for round two of games, food and present giving with other parts of family .

AuntieMarys · 26/12/2019 17:25

11 mile walk in the Dales.
Currently eating my weight in cheese

beautifulstranger101 · 26/12/2019 17:25

Went shopping, took the kids bowling, now home having hot chocolate.
It was lovely and so nice to get out of the house!
