What has everybody been doing on Boxing Day

Husband, grown up son and I have just slobbed around in our pyjamas all day & part of me thinks what a waste of a day! In the old days when I was a kid we used to have big family parties with people sleeping on the floor as all the beds were taken. We've all been busy doing nice Xmassy stuff in the run up to Xmas, then the big day itself. Had quite a few people for dinner & evening buffet. Me & my sister & our husbands could have got together today & perhaps invited others but we've both ran out of steam. Feel like we're missing out on some brilliant Boxing Day extended family get togethers like we used to have in the 70's.

Listened to “The Whisperer in Darkness” on BBC Sounds, HP Lovecraft.. brilliant!

Frenchw1fe · 26/12/2019 17:27

Dh, df and son in law have gone to football. Me and dd have walked the dog and caught up on tv. It's been bliss.

AllergicToAMop · 26/12/2019 17:27

Napping, reading, eating 😁

OldMotherHenz · 26/12/2019 17:27

Sat on my bum watching football and a film while I eat my way through a whole lot of cheese.

countdowntochristmas · 26/12/2019 17:28

This is the first Christmas in years that we haven't seen relatives on Boxing Day . I'm in work tomorrow so didn't plan much . Today all had lie in caught up with some tv from yesterday. Tidied up , had a cooked breakfast. Watched a film and a picky tea of turkey sandwiches and leftovers. It was nice to slob about in my comfy's just chillin Grin.

elastamum · 26/12/2019 17:28

Nothing. Got up late as it's my turn for a lie in. Mucked out some horses, took the dog out. Been lying on the sofa with DP and the dog most of the day. It's just great not to have to do anything.

Bunnylady54 · 26/12/2019 17:29

I get this thing from my DM about being “ productive “ & it’s still hard to fight! However, it’s miserable weather & I’m not very well so that’s 2 excuses for not doing much. DH went out to get me Heinz tomato soup & Sudofed & has done most of the clearing up from yesterday. DD was going to have a friend round but that fell through so we’ve pottered

isitpossibleto · 26/12/2019 17:29

The weather has been shite but usually it would be a walk in the woods somewhere. We walked around Ikea and Decathlon instead

Evilmorty · 26/12/2019 17:30

Slept in, built some Lego, played some games, watched some films, took a walk over the shops for a look in the sales, currently microwaving left overs. Very relaxed and much better than Xmas

Solina · 26/12/2019 17:31

Had a late breakfast with my family before they all left and then me and DP tidied the house up, did some washing and got rid of the Christmas tree as it had started to really shed. Now we can just chill eating leftovers for the next few days.

Junie70 · 26/12/2019 17:31

DH and I took the dogs for a long walk this morning, in the wind and rain, then we had late breakfast with our youngest DD and her BF. Then we went to eldest DDs for lunch with family ..... it was chaos and essentially a repeat of yesterday. We did a manic clear up with DD, and are now home watching Casino Royale with the tree lights on, a cracking mug of tea and the dogs sprawled over us.

Bliss.

Oldraver · 26/12/2019 17:31

As a child we had one set of go's Christmas Day Nd another set Boxing Day, and visitors for 'tea' everyday after that with only one day break till New Year. My Mum was forever doing buffets for relatives and friends that never reciprocated

I now just have a quiet break with OH and DC's

AgeLikeWine · 26/12/2019 17:34

Cooking, eating, drinking and watching the Test Match. Dinner Is currently in the oven, and it smells amazing. Bliss Smile.

Kuponut · 26/12/2019 17:34

Drove home from my parents (kids staying with them until new year) via a retail park en-route to pick up some stuff I needed.

Blacksackunderthetreesfreeze · 26/12/2019 17:35

We went for a walk we planned but got absolutely soaked. Had a pub lunch, now lying down watching films. Quite nice apart from getting soaked!

PebbleBubbleFountain · 26/12/2019 17:35

PJ day in our house. Tidied up, watched tv and picked at leftovers. Trying not to think about going to work tomorrow.

itgetshardereveryday · 26/12/2019 17:36

MIL & BIL stayed over last night so I did everyone a fry up this morning as DH cooked for us all (plus my side) yesterday.
I'd have liked to get some fresh air but 3yo DS has a horrible cold/flu type thing so I've stayed in with him while DH went out with his friends & family.
I'll probably go to bed early with DS tonight and keep him in with me to keep an eye on his temperature etc.

Mammylamb · 26/12/2019 17:39

Pj day with DH, DS4 and DM. Slept in till 9 and lazed about for a few hours and also played with DS for a few hours (hot wheels and LEGO). Threw on some leggings and a hoody at 4 ish and took dog for a walk. Planning a leftovers buffet shortly.

So glad to chill for a day: we’ve had stuff on every day since early November and visiting relatives on my side last weekend. Yesterday my mum and DH parents were over for Christmas dinner and then from tomorrow DBIL and his family will be home from Spain for a week, so lots of events then.

A day of chilling is just what the doctor ordered

neversleepagain · 26/12/2019 17:39

Dc slept until 10 which was wonderful. We played Junior Monopoly, did science experiments and watched TV. Having dinner in next hour.

Disillusioneddaisy · 26/12/2019 17:40

Nursing a hangover

Dawny65 · 26/12/2019 17:42

Thank you all. This is the first Boxing Day in years that I can remember doing nothing and seeing no one. I had a sudden FOMO wash over me! Life is probably more hectic these days than I remember it to be I reckon, Boxing Day if we're lucky enough to get the day off is an ideal time to recharge before going back to work or the onslaught of new years eve

Met my oldest friend who is back up for Christmas for a walk. Then met OH and two other mates in the pub for a few hours. Now about to pack as we are going away with friends tomorrow for new year. Felt a bit down when I woke up this morn but the day has turned out ok.

Butterbeeeen · 26/12/2019 17:47

Watched our nephew do our local Boxing Day dip then went to the in laws for pie and pea lunch with all the family. Now home drinking prosecco and picking at Turkey x

PositiveLife · 26/12/2019 17:53

DC were with Ex-husband yesterday so today was our "Xmas day". Opened presents this morning and had Xmas Dinner at 1pm.

Nipped out to go outdoors to find the hoody I want out of stock and no climbing shoes in dd2's size 🙄. Took dd1 to a friend's house for a sleepover then made soup with dd2.

Going to have a bath and watch a film later.

joystir59 · 26/12/2019 17:54

Out with the dog for long Beach and cliff top two hour walk. Back for porridge yoghurt and banana breakfast, then sat and had a coffee, fell asleep watching Great Christmas Bake off on catch up. Dog slept as did OH who is recovering from..Major abdominal surgery. Lunch was the rest of yesterdays turkey and veg with gravy. Then out for second short dog walk with oh, home for washing up, been drinking sherry and grazing sinCe whilst watching Paddington 2 on Prime Video.
