What has everybody been doing on Boxing Day

Husband, grown up son and I have just slobbed around in our pyjamas all day & part of me thinks what a waste of a day! In the old days when I was a kid we used to have big family parties with people sleeping on the floor as all the beds were taken. We've all been busy doing nice Xmassy stuff in the run up to Xmas, then the big day itself. Had quite a few people for dinner & evening buffet. Me & my sister & our husbands could have got together today & perhaps invited others but we've both ran out of steam. Feel like we're missing out on some brilliant Boxing Day extended family get togethers like we used to have in the 70's.

DH is ill in bed so my and 3 dcs have had a pj day. The older two may play a board game with me in a bit. I've cooked, cleaned, put a washing load on and attacked any likely source of norovirus with a disinfectant spray. Not the boxing day I had planned and we have had to keep visitors away for 2 weeks now (last week flu hit the household). But it's ok. I've booked a lot if cinema visits with the Vodafone and Meerkat offers.

Coloured my hair as didn't get time before Christmas and we're going away for a couple of days tomorrow. Was going to go for a walk with DH & DS after lunch but we all had a falling out whilst getting ready which resulted in DH going by himself (and getting soaking wet). DS threw a strop as I told him to find some old trousers in his wardrobe to wear so that he had some clean clothes to take away tomorrow (he's home from Uni & only bought 2 pairs if trousers home with him - one is currently in the washing basket!) He also couldn't get into the walking boots as he is awaiting an op on his big toe!

DH couldn't find his maps or rucksack and accused me of having moved them to some mystery place. I haven't touched his bl**y maps or rucksack. Turns out he left them all in the local community hall after a walk last Saturday! Thankfully they were still there as his GPS was in the rucksack!

So I ended up having a peaceful afternoon as DH did a 7 mile walk alone and DS retreated to his room.

Got up at 11am!

Had a leftover sandwich, done a load or two of washing and drying.

Cinema in the afternoon to watch jumanji 2.

Home played cluedo for a while.

Just had another leftovers sandwich.

And now not a lot, bins need to go out, as rubbish collection is a normal day for us.

I went to Costa at 11 this morning. Very busy but nice atmosphere. Lunch, washing up, laundry to dry. Now I'm at work until 5 a.m. tomorrow.

Frokni · 26/12/2019 20:34

Had bucks fizz and leftover turkey for breakfast

Had mum, bro and SIL to ours with my DH, DD2 & DD5. Cooked persian food for late lunch as DH is half- Iranian and it breaks up the meat and potatoes fest. Had Madeira cake and mince pies and boat load of Maltesers for afters.

Refused to cook another meal for DD5 at 6pm so gave her toast- she was genuinely happy about my cop out dinner!

PickAChew · 26/12/2019 20:36

Quick visit to the sales, tackled a pile of ironing, had a long bath, cooked a nice dinner and slobbed about.

ScorpionQueen · 26/12/2019 20:41

Dog walk then grazing on cheese and leftovers. Currently binge watching The Witcher.

vintagesewingmachine · 26/12/2019 20:56

Tending to the worried well..

nononever · 26/12/2019 20:58

We slobbed about in our pyjamas most of the day and did some holiday 'admin' as we are off on a month long trip next week. Husband back to work for a few hours tomorrow morning while I do important stuff like getting my eyebrows done Grin plus some preparation for visitors on Saturday. Sunday I'm having a top to toe spa day, well from 10 till 3. Hoping they can iron out my trapezius muscle, it's giving me gyp.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 26/12/2019 21:03

Round to MILs all day. Buffet food, catch up with assorted in laws, got destroyed in a brutal game of Monopoly by DH's cousin. Home for Paddington 2 and a box of chocolates. I drove to MILs so haven't had a drink yet but might grab one shortly as DH and I are both lucky enough to be off tomorrow, although he's back in work on Sat.

Ragwort · 26/12/2019 21:05

Quite lazy, came back from my parents house late morning via the supermarket, managed to get a reduced turkey for a belated Christmas lunch. Did a bit of washing & ironing, opened a bottle of Prosecco, a musical on tv on in the background, Mumsnetting, a bath and a nap, cooked myself a very nice meal ... can’t decide whether to watch tv or have an early night, back to work tomorrow (just took a call from one of my team who didn’t seem to know what time to start work Confused).

halocompanach · 26/12/2019 21:06

Watching tv in my pyjamas, a little afternoon nap, now watching Call the Midwife and playing games on my tablet.

HateIsNotGood · 26/12/2019 21:09

Was going to go hunting but realized no hunting was going to happen so didn't go and imagined my life involved spa treatments iinstead.

Apparently neither is likely to happpen, so I'll have to make do with the rest of our huge plane, which hardly any of whiah gives a toss what the EU thinks

asparagusnextleft5 · 26/12/2019 21:14

I could have written your post myself OP! I grew up with Christmas, and particularly Boxing Day, being spent with dozens of aunties, cousins and family friends. My mum always held a massive party and it was a chaotic but fun evening of food, drink, presents and kids everywhere. Our Boxing Days now are spent at home, in our pyjamas, eating leftovers. Still enjoyable in its own way but I miss those days of seeing lots of people!

ayvasili · 26/12/2019 21:30

Pj day here too!finished the washing up from yesterday, and everyone just picked at leftovers-it was bliss!

Traynorbird · 26/12/2019 21:33

Lie in, nap, D&D with kids & husband, reheated Xmas dinner, bubble and squeak, loads of chocolate biscuits, bit of reading. Basically I'm winning at life. I'll go out tomorrow.

The2Ateam · 26/12/2019 21:43

Hit the Zara sale at 9am this morning - in and out in an hour with two blazers I really wanted.

Home, breakfast, shower, lots of hair removal and then whole family in PJs watching crappy TV all day. It was great!

Dowser · 26/12/2019 22:00

Son and partner came round with a surprise hamper of gf goodies
I was totally bowled over as they have had a rough year with three big lads to provide for
Lovely lovely kind thoughtful gift.
( I’ll still worry about them though)
Then feeling tired I thought I’d go for a snooze..had a good couple of hours 😱
Binging on gc..worse life gummidge which was lovely, men in black and the Susan hill ghost story

Dinner was salmon, buckwheat and peas, with a piece of carrot and citrus drizzle cake
Then the bar opened at 9..and a nice strawberry gin and tonic rounded everything off.

Lovely day
Just hope I sleep tonight

FizzyIce · 26/12/2019 22:40

We made a Christmas dinner for my dad and step mum .
Shattered now so in bed

Fifthtimelucky · 26/12/2019 22:55

No cooking today: ate light lunch of cold turkey, ham, bread sauce, cranberry sauce and salad, then picked this evening on stollen, biscuits and satsumas

This afternoon went to nearest big town with daughters to watch 'Little Women' and then bought new sofa in the sales

Have also done 4 loads of washing.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 26/12/2019 23:01

I love boxing day, there's no expectations...

We had lesuirely morning, then cold meats and bubble and squeak for lunch, followed by (slightly) boozy trifle. A brief walk, just down to the park and back, then a silly game of pictionary.

Sandwiches and Christmas cake for tea, accompanied by angel chimes candles (ding ding ding). We watched Paddington 2 as a family, then I watched university challenge with DS (13) and quaffed a bit of prosecco.

My mum and dad and brother are with us for Christmas and it's great just hanging out with them.

PentreBachCymraeg · 26/12/2019 23:07

Chocness · 26/12/2019 23:34

London show followed by dinner, was fantastic!

Greenbutterlfy566 · 26/12/2019 23:43
