What has everybody been doing on Boxing Day

Husband, grown up son and I have just slobbed around in our pyjamas all day & part of me thinks what a waste of a day! In the old days when I was a kid we used to have big family parties with people sleeping on the floor as all the beds were taken. We've all been busy doing nice Xmassy stuff in the run up to Xmas, then the big day itself. Had quite a few people for dinner & evening buffet. Me & my sister & our husbands could have got together today & perhaps invited others but we've both ran out of steam. Feel like we're missing out on some brilliant Boxing Day extended family get togethers like we used to have in the 70's.

Also at this time of year I tend to miss the cosy days of childhood & grandparents even though the last one died 22 years ago. In reality it was probably just as busy & tiring for our own mothers!

silencebeforethebleeps · 26/12/2019 18:36

Vegging out...bit of laundry...Lego...about to cook dinner...then we'll watch a film.

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 26/12/2019 18:38

Film
Roast dinner
5 mile walk
Glass of wine
4 mile walk
Turkey sandwich

Fuzzyspringroll · 26/12/2019 18:41

We had a lie-in until 8am, then breakfast and then went for a walk. When we came back, the toddler needed a nap. We've then been watching Netflix and eating chocolates.
My family had been here until yesterday, so it was nice to be just us for a day. We're off for a family weekend away at centre parcs with my parents tomorrow.

Slept in this morning, went and bought a new telly - I'm now keeping out of the way while dp sets it up

JorisBonson · 26/12/2019 18:46

On hour 7 of an 8 hour car journey home. Craving cheese and red wine

JaceLancs · 26/12/2019 18:47

Coffee shop first thing
Then took elderly DM shopping and out for lunch
Helped DM find homes for her Xmas presents, planted bulbs for her, found lost things and transferred dates onto 2020 calendar
She struggles due to Alzheimer’s
Caught up on my pet feeding duties for day (1 friend 1 neighbour)
Now sat on sofa with own cat wondering what to eat tonight

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 26/12/2019 18:51

Slobbed all day
Brief walk to get milk from the shop and stopped at my local for a brew and to watch the rugby for half an hour
Buffet food and a board game with the kids once ds gets in from work

Bluebutterfly90 · 26/12/2019 18:57

Waiting to go into labour, mostly. Grin

It's my due date today, but little man seems like he's in no hurry as I've had no signs.
I've been getting texts today from relatives wanting to know if anything's starting. Or asking me if I've tried having a curry! Hmm

Scarlettpixie · 26/12/2019 18:57

I have been having a relaxing day. Pjs until lunch. Making lists, checking bank, budgeting, putting things in my new diary. Played ball with the dog and chatted to DS who has been upstairs most of the day on his new device and talking to his friends.Listened to music, bit of mumsnet, made a chilli and watched some telly. Felt a bit sad that we have no family stuff to do but also pleased there is none of the grief that some people seem to have re spending time with family (not that it was like that for us - parents are sadly dead and no siblings). Also a bit sad that my marriage is over and feeling a little bit lonely. Generally though, it has been pleasant, chilled and uneventful.

girlofthenorth · 26/12/2019 19:00

Still feeling rubbish from chest infection so easy day . Walked dog slowly , me and DD2 got takeaway as DH at work , watched Gavin and stacey again as she hadn't seen it . Went to visit DF in hospital. Now waiting for food and slobbing.

Vieve1325 · 26/12/2019 19:04

I was up at 4am to get the horse ready to go hunting.

Spent the day galloping around the countryside in great company (following a very man made trail I’ll add!!)

Now finally home for a takeaway and bath!!

Being a total scrooge and taking our tree down. Broke my heart a bit. But DS got really spoilt this year (it's fine though, it's his 1st year of actually realising what's going on, he's 3). He's got some big presents and alot of other ones too. Plus new baby DD has also got a new toy box as we've had to start organising their toys. We have little space in our house and need to start organising everything better. Something had to go.
I don't have the room for my tree. My darling tree. Sad

Lounge does look awesome now though and we've spent the afternoon playing with the DCs and their new toys. Will have a nice bucks fizz later and mourn the tree some more. Grin

Posted too soon
I miss the big family get togethers we had as a kid. But yeah I think my DM and grandparents must have been exhausted!

Lindy2 · 26/12/2019 19:11

Lounging around. Playing Monopoly. Eating. Having a nap (as was up at 3am with my youngest who threw up and finally understood I was right when I'd said "Stop eating all that chocolate or you'll be sick" Xmas Confused

SymbollocksInteractionism · 26/12/2019 19:13

Long lie, bacon sandwiches for breakfast, pottered around in pj's and tidied up.
Showered and into clean pj's.

Kids pottering around and I'm watching a place in the sun and having a Havana club and coke.

Juanbablo · 26/12/2019 19:13

Went to my Nan's. Saw aunts and uncles and cousins. Ate too much. Have been chilling since we got home. Dcs have been assembling Lego, dh is watching football.

slipperywhensparticus · 26/12/2019 19:15

Mitsouko67 · 26/12/2019 19:22

A really nice day. Breakfast in bed, went into town and had lunch with DH in cosy cafe with roaring fire. Walked home and took a nap. Will watch a movie by the fire tonight. A restful, relaxing day with DH after entertaining in laws yesterday.

GinNsnowmen · 26/12/2019 19:23

Chocolate. That's all.

Blacksackunderthetreesfreeze · 26/12/2019 19:25

Now doing Lego

Hellokittymania · 26/12/2019 19:26

Pajama day, I woke up at almost 2 PM… Partly because the neighbors were making a lot of noise, even at 4:30 AM. Until I lost patience and I banged on the wall.

I just had a salad, a banana, and will have a tiny bit of chocolate. And read the five.

SusieSusieSoo · 26/12/2019 19:33

Been to see Rise of Skywalker with DS7. He cried at one point. He still sits on my knee for cuddles too! (Big reclining seats) It was great - we both loved it!

SwingingBy · 26/12/2019 19:34

All the kids and grandkids dropped in this morning for cuppa's and mince pies, so was a madhouse for a couple of hours 😁
Ate lunch then facetimed husband.
Now sat with feet up and mosying about online with the radio on.
Smashing.
