Happy Impeachment! Next step is removal. (Trump thread 98)

In the last thread, Trump was impeached by Congress. Now the question is when the articles will be sent to the Senate for Trial, as - at this stage - there is no guarantee from Mitch McConnell of a fair trial. Trump clings to his belief that his call to Zelensky was “perfect”.

Across, what do you say to a CC?

I'd say we need to be very cautious. There's a reason why there hasn't been a formal CC since 1787. Amendments have gone the Congress and ratification process since then. A CC can open up the Constitution to multiple changes, not just the area we want to amend.

Theoretically, a CC to get rid of the Electoral College could end up with having a member propose to get rid of the two term limit. Or to make Scrotus 'President for Life' (as has pretty much just happened for Putin in Russia. Or enshrine 'life begins at conception' in the Constitution.

I don't think we're ready for that. Yet.

Something I am unsure I understand: if Ukraiune had investigated Joe and Hunter Biden's involvement in corruption months ago, and come up blank as they would have done, would that have harmed Biden senior?

And remember, it was only that Ukraine should announce an investigation, not actually conduct one. The announcement would have been made much of by Scrotus and his ilk. If started at all, 'investigation' probably would have been 'encouraged' to last until after the election.

We're of two minds, Across and I.I take her points but I still believe that a CC may be the only way ('jaw-jaw) to get the 'base' back without bloodshed. The constitution isn't doing too well at the moment.

For ages I had a hard time telling Mitch McConnell and Jeff Sessions apart, without a name-check under the picture. One wore spectacles and the other didn't but I was never sure which it was who did, so that was no help.
