...to do a wash on Christmas Day?

We have 3 under 3 and the washing is mad. Not to mention we’re hosting 4 adults and 3 more children over Christmas. I’ll stick a load on in the morning and another in the evening probably. DSis says we should just forget it and catch up the day after.

Will you have the washing machine on on Christmas Day?

It's entirely your choice. If you will feel less stressed knowing that the washing is under control, do it. If you will feel resentful about having to do washing on Christmas Day, don't. No one else's opinion (DSis) matters.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 21/12/2019 20:19

Yes. I do a load every day.

Also have bonkers shifts Boxing Day onwards so it needs to be done.

TwoMuchTwoYoung · 21/12/2019 20:20

I usually do a wash on Christmas Day, but I love washing and figure I may as well seen as I’m always up so damn early.

MegaClutterSlut · 21/12/2019 20:20

I personally would catch up the next day. I'd only put a load on on xmas day if one of the dcs pukes or has an accident

PintOfBovril · 21/12/2019 20:21

We're on reusable nappies and wipes here, not much space to dry them so I do a wash most days. So I'll have the machine on for Christmas day too.

DickDewy · 21/12/2019 20:23

Wouldn't even occur to me one way or the other.

We will have masses of tea towels and napkins used that day so yes, the washing machine will go on. This will take all of 30 seconds.

xlkhs · 21/12/2019 20:25

I’ll be putting mine on.

windycuntryside · 21/12/2019 20:27

Omg who cares, it’s washing no one will notice except you. You decide. Jeeez!

DSHathawaysLover · 21/12/2019 20:29

I'm fairly certain ours will go on. It's not a major household chore, so will just stick it on and forget about it til it all goes in the dryer in the evening.

Doilooklikeatourist · 21/12/2019 20:30

It’s not exactly a long an arduous task to stick some washing in a machine and flick a switch , it makes it easier for you the next day with no catching up
Put the wash on , and ignore what anyone else thinks

LemonAndGin · 21/12/2019 20:31

I put a wash in every night with the timer delay on, so it starts at 6am each morning and is done by 7.30. Christmas Day is no different, it'll take less than 5 mins to hang up once the machine is finished.

Winterdaysarehere · 21/12/2019 20:31

5 dc here. Usually do 3 loads every day.
Xmas it's a def no no.
Sheer bloody principal!!

Crystal87 · 21/12/2019 20:37

I will be putting a wash on. Four DC mean I do about 2 washes a day. Only takes a few minutes and I can't relax with an overflowing washing basket along with the usual chaos of Christmas.

justthecat · 21/12/2019 20:38

I do wash Xmas otherwise falls behind

1Morewineplease · 21/12/2019 20:39

Why on Earth are you asking? Just do a wash or don’t.

Goingslightlycrazy1 · 21/12/2019 20:39

I quite often do if we’re hosting and have table linen, lots of t towels etc. Entirely up to you !

slalomsuki · 21/12/2019 20:43

Mine will be on on Christmas Day as it is every day. I never seem to get on top of it all with 5 of us. Goes on early am and late pm most days

Grasspigeons · 21/12/2019 20:45

Ours wont be. Its very noisy. I tend to put in on so it doesnt spin when we are eating or the rest of the cycle for TV watching.

StarlingsInSummer · 21/12/2019 20:45

Suit yourself, if it’ll make your life easier. I’m determined not to do a wash on Xmas day or Boxing Day.

Beautiful3 · 21/12/2019 20:47

I'm doing a small wash on Christmas day. As the children will want their brand new bedding and robes washing before they use them.

CakeandCustard28 · 21/12/2019 20:49

Do whatever suits you best. I will be enjoying my one day off the house work. Grin

Smurfy23 · 21/12/2019 20:49

It's not that big a deal is it if you did? You're not washing them by hand....putting a wash on and then hanging it up to dry takes 10 mins at most?

Sindragosan · 21/12/2019 20:50

Its only new year's day that it's bad luck to do laundry on, with 3 under 3, every other day is fair game.

Lulualla · 21/12/2019 20:51

I did ironing last xmas when my kids had crashed out asleep! It needed done; I was cooking the dinner so had nothing to do. So I did the ironing!

SuperMumTum · 21/12/2019 20:51

It's a strange principle that you shouldn't do "normal" household tasks on xmas day. I would do one if I needed to but mine is very loud and I'll be hosting lots of people so it's quite an anti social activity in my house. I'll probably run the Hoover round about 8 times and the dishwasher will go on st least twice so not much difference really.
