...to do a wash on Christmas Day?

propterhoc · 21/12/2019 20:17

We have 3 under 3 and the washing is mad. Not to mention we’re hosting 4 adults and 3 more children over Christmas. I’ll stick a load on in the morning and another in the evening probably. DSis says we should just forget it and catch up the day after.

Will you have the washing machine on on Christmas Day?

2 loads a day for a family of five sounds like a lot of washing. But no reason you can,t put a load on on Christmas day.

bumblingbovine49 · 22/12/2019 13:54

I won't do a wash on Christmas day because I have to hang up anything that doesn't go in the dryer on a clothes horse downstairs in the back sitting/ dining room ( only place with space in the entire house) and I don't want washing hanging around the dining table when we have Christmas lunch. Every situation is different . If it suits you to do washing, then do it and sod everyone else.

Pumpkinbell · 22/12/2019 13:56

Your call tbh if it keeps things easy and stress free. I do a last was xmas eve and then one boxing day but not on xmas day - there are only 3 ( 1 child) of us though so not as much washing generated do what suites you best Xmas Hmm

Pilot12 · 22/12/2019 13:56

No way, I've got enough to do preparing the dinner then the tea later on. It's a holiday for me too, I'm going to enjoy the day with my family not spending half an hour hanging up wet washing!

I'll put a wash on on Monday and hang it up to dry in the spare room. Then I'm not going near the washing machine until Friday.

sassafras123 · 22/12/2019 14:00

What's the big deal? It takes two mins to put stuff in the machine switch on. Job done.

FairyOnTheTree · 22/12/2019 14:00

Bizarre question. No one cares whether you take 5 seconds out of your Christmas Day to put a load of washing on Confused

Complete non-issue. Please yourself!

GameSetMatch · 22/12/2019 14:13

Yes I will be doing two loads of washing on Christmas Day, I’d get to far behind if I didn’t. It’s not exactly a hard job it’s the work of minutes.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 22/12/2019 14:40

My DM would say that this is bad luck or some other bollocks and would rather everyone sat around in dirty stinking clothes than put a wash on.

lotusbell · 22/12/2019 16:16

There's loads of mindless crap posted on here, not sure why posters are taking umbrage with OP about her question. Don't answer if you think it's bizarre or unnecessary! And it's not just a 2 minute job, there's putting it on, remembering to unload it after the cycle ends, then either hanging it out or putting in the dryer, remembering to check when that's finished then either folding and ironing it and putting away in drawers/airing cupboard. Its potentially a lot to remember to do if you are cooking and entertaining on the day, so might be best leaving until the day after, OP.

NoSauce · 22/12/2019 16:18

There is loads of mindless crap on here but is someone really going to listen to strangers on the internet whether to do a wash load on Christmas Day? I mean just make up your own mind Grin

KatherineJaneway · 22/12/2019 16:18

I wouldn't but it's your house!

sleepingpup · 22/12/2019 18:03

Put it in last thing if you have kitchen diner with a washing machine in the room.

Otherwise who cares?

Fivemorenights · 22/12/2019 18:33

This is like when people post those to do lists which make them sound terribly busy but actually if you added it all up it’s about 30 mins worth of work.

Who even thinks about putting a wash on as an actual job?!!

Mrs Hinch has a lot to answer for.

Need to go now as I need to:

Eat dinner
Carry bowl to kitchen
Wash bowl
Dry bowl
Put bowl in cupboard

So fucking busy hun

coconuttelegraph · 22/12/2019 18:39

I know there is a lot of nonsense posted on here but this has got to feature high on the list of questions that don't need the hive mind to answer.

How can strangers know better than you about your household and routines?

Obligatorync · 22/12/2019 18:41

Yeah, if I get behind it's a pain.

Justabadwife · 22/12/2019 19:04

Do what you need to do.
Personally I will not be doing a wash xmas eve or xmas day. I will do one on Monday night, stick the wet washing on the airer, and it should be dry for around midday on Tuesday. Then the airer can go away, because it takes up a whole corner of our tiny living room.

Iusedtobeskinny · 22/12/2019 21:42

Oh definitely, put a load on and hide in the utility room with a gin and tonic Wink

propterhoc · 25/12/2019 19:42

Well it’s been on 3 times. Christmas stomach bug. Yuck.

OP posts:
Holdencaulfieldshomeboy · 25/12/2019 19:46

I put a wash on this evening, I'd filled it thr night before and was happy enough to deal with handing it on the airer. I like to be organised and there was no pressure. So I did it and I'm happy there's one less job to do tomorrow.

BikeRunSki · 25/12/2019 19:49

I put
a wash on at 3am, dd has a nosebleed all over her sheets.0

BeTheHokeyMan · 25/12/2019 19:55

I've done two washes and two dryer runs too - had to or id be overrun by washing tomorrow Xmas Angry I spent most of today cooking and cleaning around anyway so I thought why not ?! It's a running joke in my house that I was even washing clothes and pegging them out on the line on my wedding day

Purpleartichoke · 25/12/2019 20:00

I’ve run two loads today and am about to do a third. started one at 7am as one of the cats vomited all over the new cat bed left by Santa.

cheninblanc · 25/12/2019 20:00

I've done one and we have no little ones!

Celebelly · 25/12/2019 20:01

I did a wash earlier and thought of this thread Grin

namechange34 · 25/12/2019 20:02

2 washes and 2 tumble dries here
