...to do a wash on Christmas Day?

propterhoc · 21/12/2019 20:17

We have 3 under 3 and the washing is mad. Not to mention we’re hosting 4 adults and 3 more children over Christmas. I’ll stick a load on in the morning and another in the evening probably. DSis says we should just forget it and catch up the day after.

Will you have the washing machine on on Christmas Day?

Just a moment, I'm just checking up the legislation on operating a washing machine on Christmas Day....

Nope, you're alright OP it doesn't say you can't. So crack on.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 21/12/2019 20:53

Who cares? Confused do what you want in your own house. Are people really unable to make these decisions themselves without consulting the internet?

Elbeagle · 21/12/2019 20:56

3 young children here too and do a wash every day so can’t imagine Christmas Day will be any different.
Can’t imagine anyone noticing though, let alone commenting. Takes around a minute!

ElfAndSafeKey · 21/12/2019 20:56

I'll do one, but then I don't care about Christmas either way.

MoonlightMistletoe · 21/12/2019 21:00

I haven't thought about it until now I probably will not do a wash , it's the holidays no rush x

Ponoka7 · 21/12/2019 21:01

It depends on how noisy your machine is and how big your house is.

That and If you want a day off.

katewhinesalot · 21/12/2019 21:06

Crazy people. I run myself ragged getting the house perfect and all the washing and ironing up to date, then virtually no chores get done until at least 3 days after Xmas. I might consider putting the washing machine on on Saturday this year.

daisychain01 · 21/12/2019 21:07

It doesn't stop the OP having the day off. Unless that is, if they have to walk for a mile down to the local creek and bash the washing against a large rock.

Shove washing in, close door, add liquid, turn dial to normal program, switch on. Maximum 30 seconds to do. Walk away and get back to the rellys. Easy.

StellaRockafella · 21/12/2019 21:08

Of course you can do a wash on Christmas Day. Am a little baffled why you're even asking about something like this.

chillykiwi · 21/12/2019 21:08

yes, I'll be doing laundry on the day if it needs doing.

PoultryBallot · 21/12/2019 21:11

If you have small kids, sick family and or animals nothing really changes, they don't know what day it is. I still wash, muck out, walk etc whether it's the 25th December or 25th June.

Elbeagle · 21/12/2019 21:11

Well I think that’s crazy Grin. Why run yourself ragged? It takes a minute or two to chuck a wash on. I’m not running myself ragged for anyone!

lovemenorca · 21/12/2019 21:14

I will go to bed on Christmas Day and my kitchen will be as clean and tidy as it is every evening that I go to bed and then dining room will be vacuumed as it is every day.

I won’t clean the bathrooms or windows! But if a wash needs doing - then I will certainly put a wash on (alThough I can’t see there will be a need as I aim to have no washing at all to do)

ClemDanFango · 21/12/2019 21:14

Just do what you want?

Dahlietta · 21/12/2019 21:18

I can't imagine why you have been discussing this. If you need to do a wash on Christmas Day, put one on. If you don't, don't. If the washing machine is in the room where you'll be eating, don't put it on til you've eaten.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 21/12/2019 21:18

Without wanting to sound mean or rude, can you not make this decision yourself? Like, it's not a huge deal to switch on the washing machine? Or not?

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 21/12/2019 21:20

I'll probably run the Hoover round about 8 times

Sorry, what????????

multivac · 21/12/2019 21:20

Are people seriously discussing on December 21st whether or not they might put the washing machine on on December 25th?

Blimey.

TheNoodlesIncident · 21/12/2019 21:22

Why do posters get snippy with a poster wanting to canvass opinions? Why can't she ask?

I only generally do washes at the weekend (one on Friday, two on Sat, bedding on Sun for example) so I wouldn't anticipate doing one on Christmas day. I would if circumstances prevailed, ie the cat being sick on a bed or something.

Otherwise I am going to sit on my lazy arse and put my feet up.

PoultryBallot · 21/12/2019 21:22

Oh mulibav this is at least 50% of the fun of Christmas

Heymummee · 21/12/2019 21:24

I have to do a load every day. Sometimes two. I’ll definitely do some on Christmas Day just so I don’t fall behind and have to catch up. We have guests staying on the 28th so I also need to wash bedding and towels between now and then so they’re nice and fresh. It only takes 2 minutes to put in the machine and 5 minutes to hang out so it’s not a big deal.

lotusbell · 21/12/2019 21:24

My dad bollocked me last year for having washing out on Christmas day, ok, well not quite a bollocking but he was not impressed. I was just taking advantage of the dry weather!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/12/2019 21:24

I don't do a wash on New Years Day because it is fearsomely unlucky but any other day , crack on .

Though I have a small Futility Room so I can close the door and lock the WM/TD away out of sight and hearing .

AstonMartini · 21/12/2019 21:29

Weird question. If washing needs to be done on 25th December, do washing. If it doesn't, don't. 25th December really is just another day.

maddiemookins16mum · 21/12/2019 21:31

I’ll stick the table linen, napkins and numerous tea towels in later on. I once had washing outside on Christmas day (DD had been sick and I didn’t want washing hanging inside).
