Was I involved in this car accident? (attempt 2)

I was at the bottom of a hill turning right onto a main road. Turned right when clear then heard a loud noise. Looked in my mirror to see a wing mirror shattering and debris in the air. Pull over a little way up the road and go and see if I can help.

The lady is really shaken up. I ask what happened and she tells me that she just looked up and I was in front of her!

There is zero damage to my car. I have checked it three times but can only find mud BlushShe has damage to her drivers wing mirror and drivers front wheel arch.

I’ve rung my insurance company, and they have got the information on file ready but it just all seems a bit bizarre.

Anyone been in a similar situation?

So you had to cross a lane of traffic? Sounds like she was in your blind spot and you pulled out in front of her?

Nanny0gg · 20/12/2019 20:15

So what did she hit?

Nicknacky · 20/12/2019 20:16

It isn’t clear at all where the other car was? Was it on the main road that you were pulling onto?

Chefwifelife · 20/12/2019 20:16

She was to my left and I was turning right so I came across to join the road she was travelling along. But surely I would have felt something and had some sign of damage or paint?

Don't quite understand. Where was her car- on the road you were turning out into??

HighwayCat · 20/12/2019 20:16

She just looked up and you were in front of her? Wasn’t she looking at the road before that?

Havaina · 20/12/2019 20:17

Not enough info. Was there any impact? What did she hit if not your car?

If no impact then I don't think you can be found at fault.

bridgetreilly · 20/12/2019 20:17

So you don't know whether you hit her?

LuluBellaBlue · 20/12/2019 20:19

So did she say she got your car or did she swerve and hit something else?

Branster · 20/12/2019 20:19

It sounds like she clipped the back corner of your driver side as you were turning right. she was driving downhill and you turned right to drive uphill - did I get that right? Is the back of your car quite a bit higher than the front of her car? As you were joining a main road, it’s your responsibility to make sure you don’t obstruct oncoming traffic. You simply didn’t see her coming, maybe.
I’m not a specialist just based on trying to visualise your description.
I’ll wait to read more qualified responses as this is very intriguing.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 20/12/2019 20:20

She just looked up and you were in front of her

What was she looking at before?

Is she alleging that she hit you? Whereabouts on your car would you have collided?

Chefwifelife · 20/12/2019 20:20

So I didn’t feel any impact I just heard the crunching and looked behind to see her car to the side but i was a fair way in front of her by this stage.

So she swerved to avoid you pulling onto her path and she hit something else?

Unless you think she hit something else then she must surely have hit your car. Regardless of whether your car has damage her wing mirror didn’t just explode all by itself.

Wtfdoipick · 20/12/2019 20:22

From your description there wasn't anything else that could have hit her, only you. Also the road wasn't clear if she was there, it does sound like you didn't take enough care and yes you could have damaged her car without damaging yours, some are more flimsy than others

Peanutbutteryogurt · 20/12/2019 20:23

So what is she claiming she hit? Your car or something else?

Nicknacky · 20/12/2019 20:23

Why did you pull out when the road wasn’t clear?

Chefwifelife · 20/12/2019 20:23

Sorry my phone seems to be struggling to keep up! I was at the bottom of the hill turning right to join the main road. She was travelling from my left.

Cheeseboardcriminal · 20/12/2019 20:24

Can you draw a diagram?

Is she saying she hit your car or something else? She must have hit something to damage the car.

Chefwifelife · 20/12/2019 20:24

I didn’t pull out when the road wasn’t clear. I check both ways and joined the road.

OP posts:
Branster · 20/12/2019 20:24

Sorry, I now see your update. She was coming from your left as you were turning right both of you going uphill. Maybe the end of your car did touch her car just as you joined your lane. Very bizarre you didn’t see her and more strange she didn’t see you. What as she looking up from? Did she have her phone on her lap?
Maybe she hit something on the road.
Did you check there wasn’t anything lying on the road?

VivaLeBeaver · 20/12/2019 20:25

That’s quite bizarre because from the diagram and the damage to her car either she hit something else. Or you hit the side of her car? Which you’d surely have noticed.?

Guess there’s maybe a chance she swerved hard left and clipped your back corner with the side of her car but if there’s no damage to yours that seems odd.

SmellMySmellbow · 20/12/2019 20:25

I don't get how that damage happened there. Rather than a straight into the back of you. Did she swerve left and hit the back left of your car? You'd have felt it surely.

SabineSchmetterling · 20/12/2019 20:26

I don’t know how you could think that you weren’t involved. From your diagram it’s clear that you pulled out into her path and there doesn’t seem to be anything else that would have caused the damage to her car.
