Was I involved in this car accident? (attempt 2)

I was at the bottom of a hill turning right onto a main road. Turned right when clear then heard a loud noise. Looked in my mirror to see a wing mirror shattering and debris in the air. Pull over a little way up the road and go and see if I can help.

The lady is really shaken up. I ask what happened and she tells me that she just looked up and I was in front of her!

There is zero damage to my car. I have checked it three times but can only find mud BlushShe has damage to her drivers wing mirror and drivers front wheel arch.

I’ve rung my insurance company, and they have got the information on file ready but it just all seems a bit bizarre.

Anyone been in a similar situation?

It doesn't add up. Are you sure there's no damage to your car?

pregantandengaged · 20/12/2019 20:41

At 30mph you would have definitely felt an impact from that damage and had some sort of damage to your car. Surely there would have been witnesses at that time of day? Did nobody else stop?

Chefwifelife · 20/12/2019 20:42

@DontGoIntoTheLongGrass I asked her if she had come out of the side road and she said no. The wing mirror damage was definitely new as I scraped it out of the way of the road.

chefwifelife surely if you have no damage to your car then you couldnt of been involved unless im missing something 🙈

Chefwifelife · 20/12/2019 20:42

@eurochick zero damage whatsoever.

Have you looked on Google Maps to see if there is a bollard or crossing point in the middle of the road a bit further back from the junction. Looks like she hit something but I don’t think it was you. If you’d hit her wheel arch with that much force to do that damage there would be marks all over your car.

DeathMetalMum · 20/12/2019 20:43

I mean the back of op's car clipping the front wing of the other car.

Chefwifelife · 20/12/2019 20:43

@pregantandengaged no one stopped I was really surprised. There’s even a local garage by the hill and no one came out.

VivaLeBeaver · 20/12/2019 20:44

Yes, possibly the back of her car might have. But with no damage it’s unlikely.

MalarkeyMouse · 20/12/2019 20:44

Leave it to the insurance company. Had something similar recently and other driver was adamant I'd hit her. I obviously hadn't as the damage was to the side of my car and front of hers and the insurance company ruled in my favour.

UndomesticHousewife · 20/12/2019 20:44

From the damage to the wheel arch how would you have had to hit the car? With the back of your car as you turned into the road?

So if you were involved sounds like you misjudged your turning and she was not paying attention and not looking at the road.

VivaLeBeaver · 20/12/2019 20:44

Just be careful she doesn’t totally change her story.

By tomorrow you may find she’s remembered everything and clearly saw you drive into the side of her!

cabbageking · 20/12/2019 20:45

You heard a loud bang and saw the mirror explode so it was not old damage. You pulled out into her lane so it makes sense.

The mirror is high so I don't see what else she can have hit at that height unless there was some street furniture but the diagram implies a clear road.

Chefwifelife · 20/12/2019 20:45

@Coughsyrupsucks I’ve taken a snap shot of the road on google maps just for more of a reference

I for one, don’t read the updates as OP trying to blame the other lady. She is trying to understand what could have happened as a careful and experienced driver.

Scarscar · 20/12/2019 20:45

This thread makes a very good case for having a dashcam.

Spitsandspots · 20/12/2019 20:46

as I pulled out she looked up and didn’t realise my proximity and swerved and caught the passenger rear?

Which she wouldn’t have done if you hadn’t pulled out in front Of her?

“I just looked up and saw the back of your car” then “I was only doing 30mph”. She also said “you know when you try to put your foot on the break but you just can’t move”

Which, again, indicates you pulled out when you shouldn’t have and just appeared in front of her tbh. We had someone do this to us the other day, can only assume it’s the low lying sun that blinded them to our BLACK car because we were WTF??! & couldn’t understand why they pulled out when we were so close to their junction. Thankfully we have shit hot breaks and an experienced driver behind our wheel or we wou”d have clipped their rear end with our front wheel arch.

Chefwifelife · 20/12/2019 20:46

@Branster thank you for that. Who knew this thread could be so intimidating!

I think you've been tail gated out of the junction she's been on her phone you go it was clear another car behind does the damage going straight over the junction all's that's left is your car in her eye line as for she doesn't know I bet she didn't want to say

heartsonacake · 20/12/2019 20:47

It’s irrelevant that you didn’t “feel” anything. That doesn’t mean she didn’t crash into you. You heard the crunch and there’s damage to her car.

It sounds like a mix of her not paying enough attention and you not triple checking.

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 20/12/2019 20:47

I’m really confused why you even stopped if it’s a busy road and you weren’t involved at all? I’m also confused why you informed your insurance company if she wasn’t clear she was blaming you - she said she saw your car, she didn’t say you hit her. I wouldn’t have involved my insurance at all if I was certain I hadn’t been involved - no way because I can almost guarantee they will 50/50 it if you don’t have any witnesses to say otherwise.

VivaLeBeaver · 20/12/2019 20:48

Was she definetely travelling along the main road? Could she have been pulling out from the road opposite you and turned left onto the main road?

adaline · 20/12/2019 20:49

It looks like you pulled out in front of her (maybe she was in your blind spot) and she swerved/slammed the breaks on to avoid you and hit something else in the process.

Drum2018 · 20/12/2019 20:49

Ok firstly, stop feeling sorry for her, stop accepting her version of a bizarre event and think about it logically. You came out onto the road and as far as you knew there was ample space to turn right. Her car is damaged on the drivers side which surely could not have happened if she hit you while driving straight on her side of the road. It would have been the front of her car that she damaged if she hit you from behind. I can't see how she'd have hit her drivers side of the car against yours. She could be playing you and next thing you know you admit partial responsibility and she's claiming compensation for whiplash.
