Channel Four rip-off show tonight in which HBC praises her brave gramps who did stuff in WW2.

Any mention of your Great-Grandad, HBC? He was the effing Prime Minister responsible for Gallipoli and the Somme.

Did you forget?

OP posts:
Butchyrestingface · 27/11/2019 19:03

Did you forget?

Wikipedia suggests he died in 1928, several decades before HBC’s birth. So I don’t think it’s case of ‘forgetting’ him so much as never getting to meet him in the first place. Wink

churchandstate · 27/11/2019 19:04

Are we all responsible for our relatives now?

ShiveringCoyote · 27/11/2019 19:04

Not her fault, the WW2 hero was probably the angle the programme was going for.

EmperorBallpitine · 27/11/2019 19:06

They like to uncover lesser known relatives. I imagine there wasn't any work needing to be done regarding the PM side.

AutumnRose1 · 27/11/2019 19:07

So OP

Someone has made a programme about one person

And you are angry that they are t seeing it in the context of someone else.

And presumably you’ve not seen the programme. Mmmmmkay.

I am DEFINITELY not taking on the sins of my rellies!

AutumnRose1 · 27/11/2019 19:08

“ Are we all responsible for our relatives now”

This does seem to be a thing sadly.

I’m so glad I’m not famous.

I’d have my abusive grandfather that battered both his wives, my paedophile (jailed for it) father and my illegitimate mother (absolutely shocking at the time of her birth over 70 years ago) brought up. Imagine what a shit life we’d all have if we were judged on the behaviour of others.

my2bundles · 27/11/2019 19:16

Give her a break. He died long before she was born. To her he is a stranger.

pictish · 27/11/2019 19:17

Um...ok. Not really her doing, but whatever.

AutumnRose1 · 27/11/2019 19:18

I’m fairly sure my great grandfather married a 12 year old

That’s probably okay because of it being another culture etc. The people who want apologies fir the past seem to think along those lines.

LauraBradshaw · 27/11/2019 19:18

She is a really good actress and the roles she played were principled where she fought for her rights. When she played Lady Jane she refused a forced marriage and had to endure regular severe birchings on her bare bottom until she adhered to her parents wish so it shows she had her own mind, so I think she is a good person to host this programme

WorraLiberty · 27/11/2019 19:21

Is 'Helena Bonham Sodding Carter' on Mumsnet then OP?

If so, perhaps you should message her privately with your question?

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 27/11/2019 19:25

I love her 💖

CravingCheese · 27/11/2019 19:29

I rather like her (as well as possible without personally knowing her).

The program seems to be about her grandfather.
why should she mention her great-grandfather?

Velveteenfruitbowl · 27/11/2019 19:33

Presumably she was more interested in finding out more about the man she didn’t know as much about as opposed to a former PM about whom there are countless books to choose from.

corlan · 27/11/2019 19:33

That's taking method acting a bit far I think!

X0X0 · 27/11/2019 19:34

What??

CoolCarrie · 27/11/2019 19:34

I like her and her clothes are great, and her family are interesting so will be watching her tonight on channel 4

AutumnRose1 · 27/11/2019 19:35

Glad I’m not the only poster baffled by the Lady Jane comment!

Hope OP comes back.

TheFaerieQueene · 27/11/2019 19:35

Well aren’t you a peach OP?

ARoomWithoutADoor · 27/11/2019 19:37

I cant see she is responsible for what her Great-Grand-Father did?
Perhaps they didn't mention it as he was well known and the programme raison d etre is uncovering truths about unknown / lesser known rellies?
She strikes me as a wee bit precious, but I don't know her so who knows?

JacquettaW · 27/11/2019 19:40

YABVU! She's an amazing actress and I love her. Leave the poor woman alone, she's not responsible for those who came before her

Clutterbugsmum · 27/11/2019 19:41

The clue's in the show details 'My Grandparents'' War'

It's not about her GREAT granddad it's her GRANDDAD and what he did in the 2nd World War, helping Jewish people out of Germany.

Watch something else if you not interested or even turn the bloody tv off.

ShagMeRiggins · 27/11/2019 19:41

Any mention of your Great-Grandad, HBC? He was the effing Prime Minister responsible for Gallipoli and the Somme.

I’m curious as to why this affects you so deeply.

I am not responsible for the sins of my father, my grandfather, nor my great-grandfather ffs.

I refuse to be held accountable for their behaviour.

It’s like blaming German schoolchildren for Hitler.
