Channel Four rip-off show tonight in which HBC praises her brave gramps who did stuff in WW2.

Any mention of your Great-Grandad, HBC? He was the effing Prime Minister responsible for Gallipoli and the Somme.

Did you forget?

OP posts:
DonKeyshot · 27/11/2019 21:09

Given your name, it's somewhat ironic that you didn't bother to check your facts before posting with such a venomous title, OP.

Perhaps you should have watched the programme before launching into your unjustified tirade against HBC?

beautifulstranger101 · 27/11/2019 21:10

So, OP, what do you suggest HBC do to atone for her old relative's sins that happened before she was even born? wear sack cloth and beat herself black and blue with a stick before bed every night? become mute and avoid eye contact for the rest of her life? maybe she could wear a leper bell around her neck to warn people of her dangerous but also very dead relatives? By your rationale, ALL of us should feel ashamed- there isn't a single person alive who can claim NONE of their relatives have ever committed an act of evil. If you go far enough back into all our family trees you will discover acts of brutality, cruelty and criminal acts.

Patroclus · 27/11/2019 21:13

It was Churchills idea to send a stupidly underpowered fleet there nd expect the turks to just shit themselves on sight of it and give up. it required him to take the troops. He then repeated the same mistake, believing it to still be 1805 even during the next war, 3 times at least (France, Norway, Greece). Yes many other people were involved but in these two instances, him and Hague are the man culprits by far

Patroclus · 27/11/2019 21:15

Think ive worked out who your grandad was PooWilly. Interesting life.

bellinisurge · 27/11/2019 21:17

I've got a hero and a villain in my family tree not too far back. Am I allowed on MN?

Patroclus · 27/11/2019 21:18

The Liberals were one of the 2 main parties until Labour emerged Misty. They wernt especially liberal in the odern sense either. Had lots of prime ministers.

PigOnStilts · 27/11/2019 21:22

My dad's a total cunt and I won't atone for his sins.

Even he's sitting beside me.

HeIenaDove · 27/11/2019 21:23

My grandad was in the Italian Army and someone in my family got a house in Italy practically for peanuts because the original owner had to get out quick because he had upset a member of the M.

I like Helena B Carter

Willow2017 · 27/11/2019 21:53

Sure, she's not responsible for the sins of her forebears. But when she rests on the laurels of others of her forebears and indeed devotes a whole telly programme to doing so even though it has fuck all to do with her it's fair play to look and contrast.

FFS what the hell does that even mean?
How can she "rest on her GFs laurels"?

mathanxiety · 27/11/2019 21:55

I always thought it was primarily Winston Churchill, First Lord of the Admiralty at the time, who was responsible for Gallipoli?

Regardless, you are being unreasonable, OP.

We all have millions of years of ancestors and I am sure plenty of them did their fair share of murder, rape, pillage, etc.

Patroclus · 27/11/2019 21:59

Dan Snow is quite closely related to David Lloyd George (and Peter Snow obviously)

mathanxiety · 27/11/2019 22:07

I didn't know Liberal had ever had a Prime Minster

Is History taught in British schools?

Patroclus · 27/11/2019 22:09

You always say this, math.

mathanxiety · 27/11/2019 22:10

BerwickLad, the programme isn't about how heroic her family is.

It's about how heroic one particular member of her family was.

mathanxiety · 27/11/2019 22:11

Threads where history is touched upon always beg the question, Patroclus.

MollyButton · 27/11/2019 22:21

I think I'd like both HBC and Kathy Burke as fantasy dinner party guests, although they might have such a laugh together that the rest of the guests would be a bit ignored.

Oh and I may have a murderer not too far back, so am I supposed to apologise for that all the time?

MsTSwift · 27/11/2019 22:21

I like HBC used to live near her I was having a stressful time once and she gave me a lovely smile so wont hear a word against her.

My great uncle a war hero who gave his life for his men dhs grandfather fought the Russians on the western front as dh German

selfhelpneeded · 27/11/2019 22:40

And one of my ancestors owned slaves. The thought of 'owning' a human makes me feel sick but a man I never met and happen to me descended from isn't my responsibility.

What is your point op? Have you been on the gin?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 27/11/2019 22:44

This programme was about WW2 not WW1 why on earth should she mention him?

I thought it was a fabulous programme.

CoolCarrie · 27/11/2019 23:21

I enjoyed it, it was lovely to see people who wouldn’t be alive if it hadn’t been for her grand parents bravery, and the other actors stories featured over the series look very interesting and moving.
We should never forget the fear and horror that people faced during World War Two, especially as this year marks 80 years since it began and it’s right that we learn about individuals who made a huge difference, whoever their descendants are.

CoolCarrie · 27/11/2019 23:24

And there is another incredible story on BBC One at the moment, very sad, a remarkable man who is the oldest survivor of the camps.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 28/11/2019 10:25

One of my ancestors was possibly a psychopath .

Anyone that would hang a neighbours dog, from their own tree, as its barking got on his nerves is not that stable to start with .
Me ? Love dogs and all animals and have no tendancies to harm anything or anyone.

mathanxiety · 30/11/2019 09:09

Mine too, selfhelpneeded and sickened here too.

PigOnStilts · 30/11/2019 11:13

Where can I find this episode? It's not coming up at all when I search my sky q.

PigOnStilts · 30/11/2019 11:14

Ah, ignore me, thought it was WWDYTYA
