Am I missing something here? Meghan Markle

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7679223/Prince-Harry-Meghan-Markle-not-spending-Christmas-Sandringham.html

Sorry for the Meghan Markle thread and DM link, but I have found this really amusing today.

Story out today saying Harry and Meghan apparently aren't spending Xmas with the Queen this year. Lots of comments below blaming Meghan, saying she's isolating Harry from his family, saying the Queen must be really upset. Everyone at work was chatting about it today saying similar.

Am I missing something? I mean we don't even know if it's true. But even if it is, aren't they entitled to spend Xmas as they please? She has her own mother she may want to see.

Ok I get that it's the Queen and it's the usual tradition but is it really a big deal?

I wish everyone would just leave them alone.

Some people won’t be happy until the press destroys them and their marriage and then will smugly say they knew it would never last. Fucking horrible. A young newly wed couple with a baby. Leave them alone

SirVixofVixHall · 13/11/2019 22:01

I agree with Oldbutstillgotit
I am also old enough to remember all the stuff about Princess Margaret and “The Shagger from the Valleys” ..!!
I do think Meghan imagined being idolised as Princess Diana has been.

SirVixofVixHall · 13/11/2019 22:03

Actually maybe it was Roddy’s brother, Dai, who was the “shagger” ? Trying to think of Roddy’s nn now..

speakout · 13/11/2019 22:04

Perhaps they should resign.

They could get normal jobs and stay out of the media eye.

With their income comes responsibilities- same with any job.

Oldbutstillgotit · 13/11/2019 22:05

@ CareOfPunts fair enough but who pays for the required security ?

LaurieMarlow · 13/11/2019 22:06

I agree. It’s depressing how many dicks are out there.

Oldbutstillgotit · 13/11/2019 22:07

@ SirVixofVixHall yes it was Roddy’s older brother Dai. Can’t remember Roddy’s nn but I do remember the scandal!

LaurieMarlow · 13/11/2019 22:07

A responsibility to go to Sandringham every Christmas? You think?

What about K&W? They don’t go to Sandringham every year.

CareOfPunts · 13/11/2019 22:09

What “increased security”?

CareOfPunts · 13/11/2019 22:10

Christmas with the Queen is not part of the responsibility of their job. They are actually allowed a private life even if they are “public servants”.

lyralalala · 13/11/2019 22:11

They’ll likely have to go to Sandringham every year when Charles is King. Especially as Camilla leaves on Boxing Day every year

His siblings will no longer have the same obligation. So they’ll have years of it to come

Disfordarkchocolate · 13/11/2019 22:14

K & W have a very hand home withing walking distance of Sandringham. They can escape stuffy formality some of the time.

Oldbutstillgotit · 13/11/2019 22:20

@ CareOfPunts the cost of flights etc for the teams of Protection Officers who will have to be with the family 24/7.

LaurieMarlow · 13/11/2019 22:23

but who pays for the required security?

They all take holidays. Or are H&M not allowed to now?

Oldbutstillgotit · 13/11/2019 22:26

@ LaurieMarlow 6 weeks holiday ??

Hilarious how everyone is saying it's their job, it's their duty and so on.

What difference does it make to the public where H&M spent Christmas Day?

As said upthread, good luck to Charles if he expects that; if even his partner won't hang around I'm not sure what chance he'd stand with his sons

Apologies for derailing a bit, but where is Camilla anyway? It was said that they were both going to India, but now he's gone alone ...

LaurieMarlow · 13/11/2019 22:45

6 weeks holiday

Well Princess Margaret used to bugger off to mustique for ages. The York girls at one point were clocking up 5/6 holidays a year. K&W have done plenty of long haul jaunts.

Significant time away, accruing security costs wouldn’t be unusual, no.

DonKeyshot · 13/11/2019 22:46

Camilla has a chest infection hence Charles spending his birthday alone in India.

TheFairyCaravan · 13/11/2019 22:54

It hasn't been confirmed that they're spending Christmas in California yet, they've just said that they're spending it with Doria. Planes go two ways, you know.

DonKeyshot · 13/11/2019 22:56

You don't have to be Nostradamus or Septic Peg to read the signs and others have already drawn the same conclusion, LaurieMarlow.

Spare me your bullshit.

A ‘purported royal expert’ 😆 😆 😆

Now that’s a new one on me.
