https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7679223/Prince-Harry-Meghan-Markle-not-spending-Christmas-Sandringham.html

Sorry for the Meghan Markle thread and DM link, but I have found this really amusing today.

Story out today saying Harry and Meghan apparently aren't spending Xmas with the Queen this year. Lots of comments below blaming Meghan, saying she's isolating Harry from his family, saying the Queen must be really upset. Everyone at work was chatting about it today saying similar.

Am I missing something? I mean we don't even know if it's true. But even if it is, aren't they entitled to spend Xmas as they please? She has her own mother she may want to see.

Ok I get that it's the Queen and it's the usual tradition but is it really a big deal?

Why not spend time at Christmas with the family.

Because they did it last year. Turn about. Which is fine for Kate, but oh surprise surprise not for Meghan.

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/11/2019 19:20

Here's the statement released by the palace. Nothing said about recharging batteries but it states quite plainly that they're spending it with her mother and they have the support of the Queen.

Did they actually say that? I can’t remember an announcement

There hasnt been an announcement afaik.

Just the usual ‘insider source’ shite.

hotcrossbun4321 · 13/11/2019 19:21

Meh - she's not long had a baby, she probably wants to see her mum, spend some time with friends back home and let them meet the baby and have a nice relaxed Christmas with some home cooking! Doria comes across as being lovely. Considering the alternative is to parade around in front of the cameras at church, whilst Archie is back home with a nanny, have a long formal dinner without any of the children but loads of various distant relatives... don't blame them!

LaurieMarlow · 13/11/2019 19:21

The only people that fall for their nonsense are those that actively choose to.

Plenty of them on here

cuparfull · 13/11/2019 19:22

Odd decision, not to allow us all to rejoice in the birth of her delicious baby. To give us just a taster...., a tease of a view of the babys hand as tho to build up expectation of more to come.....
Everyone loves a newborn so why in, one instance, be so begrudging with this joyous occasion and yet in another, want us to laud their "Good Works" for charity. Happy to be the centre of attention then!
Be kindly to us your public, strike a deal with the media for strictly limited access to personal life but don't withhold completely if you want the publics goodwill.

Bertrand. It was A.Source you know that mischief maker with malice and a great big wooden spoon to stir things up.

Are you for real?

The only ppl getting to see the baby in Sandringham would be the nannies.

BertrandRussell · 13/11/2019 19:24

Right. Let’s see how quickly there’s a negative spin on that statement!

Span1elsRock · 13/11/2019 19:24

I think they've been given a royal rollocking, personally, and told to keep their heads down for a bit to let the dust settle.

That ill-timed media statement at the end of the Africa tour was the final nail in the coffin, I would imagine.

slipperywhensparticus · 13/11/2019 19:25

Your missing the fact that her surnames not markle

LaurieMarlow · 13/11/2019 19:25

Which the daily mail has such a brilliant relationship with Wink

lyralalala · 13/11/2019 19:25

They may simply want to have their son with them for Christmas dinner

Remember at Sandringham the children are in the nursery until they are old enough, and their table manners good enough, to eat at the dinner table

It might not be the classiest event when a small baby chucks a brussell, or squashes a roastie into their hair, but I wouldn’t want my kids in another room for Christmas dinner

percheron67 · 13/11/2019 19:28

Laurie. I just find it irritating that someone who has no idea of British traditions and values work tries to amend them. If she were British and not American she would most likely respect the ways things are done here. I know that Kate and William have escaped the Royal Christmas before now but it was done gracefully.

bohemia14 · 13/11/2019 19:29

I think it's absolutely fine that they want to spend Christmas with her mum. I do think it would be inappropriate if we see pics of Archie out and about other than the obligatory Xmas photo given he's never been seen in the UK.

BertrandRussell · 13/11/2019 19:30

“ Odd decision, not to allow us all to rejoice in the birth of her delicious baby.”
Right. There was a charming press call with Harry, saying more, I think that any other “royal new father”. There was another press call two days later- once again plenty said. There was an historic picture with her Maj, Philip and Doria. There were other pictures. And Christening pictures. Here he is as a newborn. What more do you want?

BertrandRussell · 13/11/2019 19:32

Sorry- I can’t link. Meghan’s probably hacked my phone!

BertrandRussell · 13/11/2019 19:32

Oh, it did work!

LaurieMarlow · 13/11/2019 19:32

Laurie. I just find it irritating that someone who has no idea of British traditions and values work tries to amend them

What, specifically, is she doing to amend them?

I know that Kate and William have escaped the Royal Christmas before now but it was done gracefully.

They did it in exactly the same way. A statement that they weren’t going.

BertrandRussell · 13/11/2019 19:34

“ I just find it irritating that someone who has no idea of British traditions and values work tries to amend them.”
In what way has she tried to amend them?

LaurieMarlow · 13/11/2019 19:34

given he's never been seen in the UK.

He has. This is bollocks.

His christening day for one. Pap pics at a polo match. I’m sure there’s more but literally off the top of my head.

The80sweregreat · 13/11/2019 19:34

Archie has been seen out and about with his mum.
I've seen a pic of her with him at some event online. He looks a lovely little boy.

crispysausagerolls · 13/11/2019 19:35

I reckon Prince Philip has made some colourful comments at home about how Harry and Meghan won’t be welcome at Christmas after their interview 😬

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 13/11/2019 19:35

Just the usual ‘insider source’ shite.

If you work in the media, you know exactly what this means. It amuses me how many people just think the print media just make stuff up all the time. They really don't. I'm not talking about gossip websites or random blogs but actual print newspapets.

All mainstream print newspapers including the tabloids. in the UK have a team of lawyers and are staffed by professional journalists and editors. That's not to say they never get stuff wrong but if it says there is an insider source, there is an insider source. It is impermissible under editorial rules of accuracy to claim there is a source where there isn't one at all. Very frequently where celebrities or high profile people are involved "the source" is operating as an endorsed shadow spokesman for the person.

'Meghan’s probably hacked my phone!'

Confused
