Am I missing something here? Meghan Markle

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7679223/Prince-Harry-Meghan-Markle-not-spending-Christmas-Sandringham.html

Sorry for the Meghan Markle thread and DM link, but I have found this really amusing today.

Story out today saying Harry and Meghan apparently aren't spending Xmas with the Queen this year. Lots of comments below blaming Meghan, saying she's isolating Harry from his family, saying the Queen must be really upset. Everyone at work was chatting about it today saying similar.

Am I missing something? I mean we don't even know if it's true. But even if it is, aren't they entitled to spend Xmas as they please? She has her own mother she may want to see.

Ok I get that it's the Queen and it's the usual tradition but is it really a big deal?

I would SO give up my xmas to be a fly on the wall at Sandringham...

This!

I'd love to see what really goes on, and if it's as stuffy and formal as it's believed to be.

Harry has grown up with that, I wonder what it will feel like to him to have a laid back Christmas with Meghans mum.

oldbutstillgotit. I know about the review - it was pretty public. The review did not stop the extravagances - and nothing was paid back into the public purse from the unwarranted expenditure.
However, the wedding took place after the review and he still managed to dip his hands into taxpayers money as if it was his and children's right.
This taxpayers money is what we are forced to pay from our hard work, mostly in jobs that don't provide us free bottomless security, servants, free travel, endless holidays, vast mansions etc. Galls me to think this hideous man and his offspring can just pickpocket the public at will - without anything in return.
Think of the security we pay for that allowed him to mix with convicted paedophiles, and his wife to engage in affairs and 'Saudi Prince' scandals. Think we need a refund. Clearly we are throwing good money after very bad people.

StoneofDestiny · 14/11/2019 10:23

Racist subtext designed to support the tory view that there are too many immigrants in the country

Philip - Greek
Queen's 'Royal' family - German

Yep - hilarious to pick on MM on that count!

LaurieMarlow · 14/11/2019 10:25

Oldbutstillgotit

They all go on holidays. But only Meghan gets it in the neck (as ever).

I don’t think there’s any confirmation they’re away for 6 weeks anyway. Just that they’re travelling to the US for thanksgiving and will be spending Christmas with Doria - where not confirmed as far as I know.

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2019 10:25

“Harry has grown up with that, I wonder what it will feel like to him to have a laid back Christmas with Meghans mum.“

Apparently they are taking all their staff, including 3 nannies and a chef with them. And Archie’s play therapist, to continue the specialised education that started when he was a week old. So I think Harry will cope.

Lightkeeper · 14/11/2019 10:37

StoneOfDestiny - Guess why the Royal Family had to change their name though? I know it was WW1, but there’s still rampant xenophobia even against Europeans here. Brexit should have taught you that.

What affair did William have and when did it take place, HouseworkAvoider?

Google it. Everyone knows about it.

I quite like the royals and feel sorry for Meghan, but that odious Prince Andrew and his utterly ridiculous daughters should be banished to Sark or somewhere. They're an embarrassment to the Queen and other decent members of the family.

wondering7777 · 14/11/2019 10:48

that odious Prince Andrew and his utterly ridiculous daughters should be banished to Sark or somewhere.

100% agree about Prince Andrew, but it's not his daughters' fault to be fair.

Please don't send him to Sark though - I've heard it's beautiful and would quite like to visit some day! I think the Pitcairns would be more suitable.

MarziPam · 14/11/2019 10:49

'It’s not that I don’t agree with the examples- it’s that the examples are always provably nonsense.'

'Nonsense'? How patronising. Do you mean that you just don't agree that they are relavant?

I'll give a few examples of why Harry and and Meghan aren't popular.

She said she wouldn't be on the cover on Vogue as it would be 'boastful', despite Kate having done just that.

He said 2 kids max to save the planet, despite his db having 3. A bit insensitive.

Protocol wise they didn't release godparent names. I don't care, but this is 'protocol' for the royals. The 'mistake' about misinformation released regarding the birth. If they are going to enjoy the privilege then they should toe the line.

Using the platform of their African documentary to air their woes ,so self pitying. They could do a Di style panorama thing if they so wished, but doing so having visited people who have endured terrible suffering seems again insensitive and unwise.

Which of these are 'nonsense'?

StoneofDestiny · 14/11/2019 10:57

lightkeeper

They turned their back on the name Battenburg because we were at war with Germany and they wanted to show where their allegiance lay just as they turned their back on their own cousins - the Tsar and his family.

HauntedPinecone · 14/11/2019 10:58

Odd decision, not to allow us all to rejoice in the birth of her delicious baby

We need a vomit emoji for comments like that.

I, for one, felt no need to 'rejoice' that some perfect stranger had a sprog.

SamanthaBrique · 14/11/2019 11:00

Actually that was Philip's family who went from Battenburg to Mountbatten. The Windsors were the slightly more of a mouthful House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha!

LaurieMarlow · 14/11/2019 11:05

She said she wouldn't be on the cover on Vogue as it would be 'boastful', despite Kate having done just that.

He said 2 kids max to save the planet, despite his db having 3. A bit insensitive.

Hardly crime of the century, either of those, come on.

LaurieMarlow · 14/11/2019 11:08

Protocol wise they didn't release godparent names

Obviously on the request of the godparents themselves, who’d already seen what vultures the media were being. I can hardly blame them.

The 'mistake' about misinformation released regarding the birth

A bit of a comms fuck up, but quite honestly why would you give a shit that you didn’t know the exact moment she went into labour? Unless you’re looking for sticks to beat her with, which you are.

LaurieMarlow · 14/11/2019 11:10

Using the platform of their African documentary to air their woes ,so self pitying

The media have been dicks to them, it’s true. And it was about a minutes footage.

Lightkeeper · 14/11/2019 11:12

And OMG... you can disagree with siblings. Everyone knows two kids are the better option for the planet — regardless of how many kids your relatives have. It's like ”keeping quiet to be sensitive” when everyone knows anyway.

Aaaaargh!!!!

Encyclo · 14/11/2019 11:13

Megan is a red herring.
The affair that William had is the root of all this nonsense

This. Harry must be fuming that his wife is taking flack for the way she holds their son, what blanket he's wrapped in etc, when his brothers' affair is completely dismissed as "can't be true"

William has made it clear at public events he has no interest in engaging with Meghan. Harry has been a huge supporter of Kate so it must really sting.

LaurieMarlow · 14/11/2019 11:14

Really compared to Andrew’s extremely unsavoury connections, Sophie and her embarrassing indiscretions with the fake Sheik, the sexual indiscretions of quite a lot of the I have NO FUCKING IDEA why there’s so much focus on a few minor gaffs of MM.

Or maybe I do.

StoneofDestiny · 14/11/2019 11:15

Philip has proven himself to be a racist (oh the irony) as did the Queen Mother and Margaret

LaurieMarlow · 14/11/2019 11:20

Oh I forgot about Philip’s offensive, disgusting racist remarks. Let’s chalk that up too.

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2019 11:34

“ She said she wouldn't be on the cover on Vogue as it would be 'boastful', despite Kate having done just that.

She said that she would not be on the cover of a magazine devoted to Changemakers because that would be boastful. Not that it would be boastful for her to be on the cover

He said 2 kids max to save the planet, despite his db having 3. A bit insensitive.

A joky comment in response to the environmentalist Jane Goodall.
He was saying something about bringing up his children to love nature. She interrupted him to say not too many, I hope. He laughed said two max, everyone laughed and he carried on with his point

Protocol wise they didn't release godparent names. I don't care, but this is 'protocol' for the royals.

Well, it’s traditional- not sure if it’s protocol. There is a difference. No idea why they did that- wasn’t there a rumour that it was at the request of one of the godparents?

The 'mistake' about misinformation released regarding the birth. If they are going to enjoy the privilege then they should toe the line.

Thia must surely have been a cock up? Because there was no conceivable benefit to them in it. And if they are as calculating and manipulative as they are painted why on earth would they have done something so stupid?

Using the platform of their African documentary to air their woes ,so self pitying. They could do a Di style panorama thing if they so wished, but doing so having visited people who have endured terrible suffering seems again insensitive and unwise.

Yes, I can see this point of view. Another point of view is that it was a few minutes of personal stuff in an hour of highlighting the people and the projects they were supporting. But I think royal overseas trips are even more of a waste of money than everything else they do, so a bit of personal gossip is a way of me getting a few pence of my money back. And I am not a fan of the view that you’re not allowed to feel
crap about aspects of your life because other people’s lives are worse. And I also find the poor suffering Africans which is a subtext of this story a bit problematic

MarziPam · 14/11/2019 11:36

'Obviously on the request of the godparents themselves, who’d already seen what vultures the media were being. I can hardly blame them.'

'Obviously'? Are you psychic? You have no idea and are just speculating which is not allowed when other people do so.

'A bit of a comms fuck up, but quite honestly why would you give a shit that you didn’t know the exact moment she went into labour? '

I don't 'give a shit', but they have their royal procedures in place. If they are going to take the money they should follow the admittedly archaic, but still royal protocols.

'The media have been dicks to them, it’s true. And it was about a minutes footage.'

Oh come on, it was the focus of the whole documentary, they used it the programme as a self indulgent platform. It was all everyone talked about. The media have been 'dicks' to many royals from Sarah Ferguson to Camilla. They didn't use the backdrop of a tour to moan about it.

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2019 11:40

Bollocks- my bolding didn’t work. Oh well.
But I have to say, if those are the worst things they’ve done, even if the 3 suggested digs really were digs, then I’m glad nobody ever hears the things I say about my siblings sometimes! And, while I don’t want to highlight tit for tat passive aggressive, EasyJetGate makes them pale into insignificance. And, if was a tabloid journalist I could write a brilliant article about W&K arriving at that event in a tuc-tuc as a direct point about H&M’s Range Rover!Grin

LaurieMarlow · 14/11/2019 11:45

it was the focus of the whole documentary

It really wasn’t. Did you watch it?
