Am I missing something here? Meghan Markle

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7679223/Prince-Harry-Meghan-Markle-not-spending-Christmas-Sandringham.html

Sorry for the Meghan Markle thread and DM link, but I have found this really amusing today.

Story out today saying Harry and Meghan apparently aren't spending Xmas with the Queen this year. Lots of comments below blaming Meghan, saying she's isolating Harry from his family, saying the Queen must be really upset. Everyone at work was chatting about it today saying similar.

Am I missing something? I mean we don't even know if it's true. But even if it is, aren't they entitled to spend Xmas as they please? She has her own mother she may want to see.

Ok I get that it's the Queen and it's the usual tradition but is it really a big deal?

In this scenario it sounds like W&K's kids will be running around in nan's home

The kids will be in the nursery, away from the adults meal

I can’t see much “running around” being done in the midst of all the formalities and outfit changes

HouseworkAvoider10 · 14/11/2019 01:05

Megan is a red herring.
The affair that William had is the root of all this nonsense.

StartupRepair · 14/11/2019 01:28

I don't recall seeing a royal using a documentary on their work to complain about their miserable lives, while still in the country that is hosting them.

1forAll74 · 14/11/2019 02:17

I don't know what all the fuss is about regarding Meghan and Harry. I am sure that the Queen is quite happy about the pair of them and Archie going away for a while. She must be quite used to the younger royals and what they wan't to do by now, She is not some dragon Queen, who forbids people from doing things.

DonKeyshot · 14/11/2019 03:12

What affair did William have and when did it take place, HouseworkAvoider?

Kate's a far better actress than Meghan but there would have been a detectable froideur between her and William if he had been getting his leg over elsewhere while she stayed home with the dc, one of whom would have been months old.

Charles is currently on a brief solo trip to India. There was a photo of him yesterday with his shoes off showing his allegedly swollen toes. Maybe he'll have a gripe about his painful plates of meat before he says farewell to his hosts, StartupRepair. Grin

DonKeyshot · 14/11/2019 03:15

I can hear Charles now... 'but nobody's asked me how they are' Sad

LaurieMarlow · 14/11/2019 04:25

Princess Margaret was one person - security for the Sussex family is three times that

Erm, Margaret had a husband and two kids

Andrew pays for Beatrice and Eugenie’s security when not on official duty

Source?

Advicewel

America its free for all

Are you mad? The British tabloids are a million times worse. America has gossip mags, but it's gossip. The British tabloids are vindictive as f*ck.

Surprised nobody on mum'snet sees thru meghans bs..

Right... you see through her while we don't? Well, I see right through you. You’re one of those small-minded people who think you know everything and that your opinion actually matters. When in real life, people intelligent enough probably roll their eyes at whatever you say, so you surround yourself with people less clever than you to hide your inner insecurities.

There... how does it feel when someone you don't know draws such a conclusion about you after reading nothing more than a few lines you’ve written yourself.

FWIW, Doria will be happy to have them over... because that's what a good mother is like — private or not. She is probably very aware they need a break from Britain, the media and small-minded people like you.

F*ck... I need a break from the UK after reading your bloody post.

The fact that you read — and believe — the Daily Express tells me everything I need to know about you. Hmm

Moaning about the British stiff upper lip being damaging, when if you bothered to get to know the country you're in, it is simply a euphemism for putting your best face on in the face of difficult circumstances. Then bleeding emotionally all over the camera as if this is the healthy (American) approach....

Unless you are in complete denial... the British stiff upper lip / putting a face on is bad for mental health. What is it with people who don't get this?!?

There are scores of people who’ve been damaged by this stiff-upper-lip thing and got help so late because they just soldiered on... it's unbelievable. I’ve been WAITING for some famous person to point this very British issue out. Thanks, Meghan!!

Andrew pays for his security ? Can't be very good can they

LellyMcKelly · 14/11/2019 06:12

The DM have a relentless and vicious vendetta against Markle. I don’t understand why, but the level of rumour, speculation, lies and misdirection being passed off as ‘news’ is appalling, and feeds into the mentality of many of their readers who are never happy unless they can rip another human being to shreds. Don’t believe what you read in these rags. 95% is completely made up.

MissEliza · 14/11/2019 07:24

Tbh the set up at Sandringham sounds so regimented and formal it would be a horrible way to spend your baby's first Christmas. I do wonder if it's just another example of their poor relationship with W and K because Anmer Hall would have been a lovely option for little Archie to spend time with his cousins.
Does anyone remember the footage of W and M standing alone outside the church last year and W spending an extraordinary amount of time playing with his scarf. Looking back he was definitely avoiding making conversation with her which is so rude. I don't think I'd want to be in that situation again either.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/11/2019 08:37

Odd decision, not to allow us all to rejoice in the birth of her delicious baby. To give us just a taster...

Are you planning to eat the baby? I'm no royalist but that seems a bit excessive. Surely a seasonal tin of shortbread would suffice.

Oldbutstillgotit · 14/11/2019 08:46

@ LaurieMarlow Princess Margaret’s marriage was over soon after the children were born but it limped along for a while so I doubt there were many family holidays ! Look , no one is saying that H and M can’t have a holiday and of course she wants to see the only member of her family she has a relationship with BUT we are talking about long haul flights for them plus ( probably) nanny, any other staff and of course Royal Protection Officers who will be on a rota so many flights etc will be involved and all this has to be paid for.

Beatrice and Eugenie had their Royal Protection removed following a review in 2012 ( I think) as they are not working Royals. If they are on a rare official duty they are entitled but otherwise Andrew pays which -allegedly - is a bone of contention between him and Charles.

EntropyRising · 14/11/2019 09:06

Andrew pays for his security ? Can't be very good can they

Ha!

I do feel badly for MM but they seem pretty lacking in self-awareness.

Interesting point upthread a bit about the 'fallout' between W+H stemming from W's alleged affair. In this case, wouldn't Kate feel quite loyal to H and wouldn't she have avoided the optics of the budget airline flight to Scotland days after PJ-gate?

StoneofDestiny · 14/11/2019 09:11

oldbutstillgotit

Andrew does not pay for his daughters security 'when not on official duties'. They don't do official duties.

Even as gad about students we paid for their 'security'

The daughters of the Duke and Duchess of York are at the centre of a row over the "phenomenal" costs to taxpayers of their round-the-clock security, writes Andrew Alderson. Bodyguards for Princess Beatrice, the Queen's 19-year-old granddaughter, currently on a gap year, cost an estimated £250,000 annually. Protection for her sister, Princess Eugenie, 17, is a similar amount, say security sources.Princess Beatrice has recently travelled to Argentina, Brazil and Belgium. While she was in Spain, Scotland Yard is reported to have sent for reinforcements to keep up with her late-night party-going.Critics say that the bills are difficult to justify when other grandchildren of the Queen, such as the Princess Royal's children, Peter Phillips and his sister Zara, a high-profile equestrian, do not have security The Independent

His daughters' extravagant wedding that Andrew insisted upon having cost us at least £2 million in security. Her ridiculous carriage parade etc - all so 'their royal status' could be enhanced!

His ridiculous daughter even started publishing her daily engagement diary in a magazine - forcing the police to protest this made securing her impossible!

Andrew and his daughters (and his ex wife) have done more to advance the case for Republicanism than any other royal (Margaret would have taken the prize for that in previously had the press not been gagged).
Put Meghan and Harry next to Andrew and Fergie and I think Meghan and a Harry have done less to undermine 'royalty' by some distance.

In fact, so odious in Andrew in his behaviour, it's likely the 'insider' anti Meghan stories come from him!

Let's get rid of 'royalty' altogether.

StoneofDestiny · 14/11/2019 09:23

Andrews kids are 9&10 in line of succession - in other words, even more irrelevant! Andrew wants to raise their profile to keep them relevant and wants the taxpayer to pay for it apparently.
Charles apparently wants to slim down the cost of monarchy to 'immediate heirs' - even he can see the writing on the wall for the royal future. Clearly that annoys Andrew.
If I was a royalist (and clearly I am not), I'd be shovelling the excess baggage off the taxpayers back pdq. The more distance he puts between himself and his brothers shenanigans the better it would be for him (Charles has had enough shenanigans of his own going on - as did his father, his grandmother, his uncle, his aunt..................)

Oldbutstillgotit · 14/11/2019 09:27

@ StoneofDestiny as I said the review was done in 2012 after they finished FTE. It was big news and would be easy for you to google the information if you don’t believe me. Andrew is a pompous ass and cannot accept his daughters not being accorded the status he thinks they deserve . I read that the reason no wedding details have yet been released about Beatrice is because Andrew is pushing for Westminster Abbey but HM has said no.
They occasionally do public duties but are not termed working Royals.

EntropyRising · 14/11/2019 09:31

I imagine Andrew continuously muttering about the random injustice of his place in the royal pecking order. Grin

ChicCroissant · 14/11/2019 10:07

I ask because nobody ever answers.

They do Bertrand - you don't agree with their examples which is fine as MN would be pretty boring if we all agreed on everything! No-one has to prove themselves to you!

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2019 10:12

It’s not that I don’t agree with the examples- it’s that the examples are always provably nonsense.

floraloctopus · 14/11/2019 10:12

Racist subtext designed to support the tory view that there are too many immigrants in the country. Vile so-called 'journalism'
