Words that I see on MN that make my teeth itch....

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 05/11/2019 22:44

For some reason, since being on MN I have developed an irrational hatred towards certain words that are overused on here....namely, "tat" and "snacks" and I don't know why, because they are words I've used in the past! Now, ugh.

And also, even though I've used it in the title, I hate the phrase "makes my teeth itch" it's almost as bad as "boils my piss".

Does anyone else have words that MN have put them off using? Or am I just a grumpy old unreasonable bag?

‘Give your head a wobble’. Not even sure what it means but very annoying! ‘No is a complete sentence’. It’s really not.

PeopleWhoRun · 05/11/2019 22:52

Oh dear, I am in the pudding category... I'll take myself off Grin

Any thread that begins with "so"

Sentences and posts starting with 'So..'

Tat

Chocs, there was a post not too long ago where everyone kept mentioning 'posh chocs' and I wanted to stick pins in my eyes. I've also seen chox.

Same goes for toms. Especially tinned toms.

Snacks

Treat. Anything arbitrarily nice seems to be branded a 'nice treat'
Having a bath? Nice treat
A square of dark chocolate? Nice treat

'My little family' .....so fucking twee and usually written by somebody intent on asserting her authority as the alpha female. Absolutely hideous expression!

zukiecat · 05/11/2019 23:01

Any variation of Host/Hosting/Hosted

Never seen anyone in real life using these words, only on tv game shows

Posh chocs irritates me too, and anything 'Naice'

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 05/11/2019 23:01

Veggies. I hate that every meal described on here is full of veggies. It's fucking veg or vegetables.

The gratuitous use of “local” seems to be a Mumsent thing and it irritates me a lot more than it should.

Responding to a request for advice, posters will tell the OP “Go to your local Waitrose / library / mechanic...”. What does the local add? Does anyone think that the OP would otherwise cross the country to go to someone else’s local library for toddler story hour? Or couldn’t otherwise figure out which Waitrose to use? It’s everywhere on Mumsnet and doesn’t reflect how people actually talk in real life in my experience.

RomaineCalm · 05/11/2019 23:03

Any long post with a cast of thousands that starts with "I have a friend, let's call her A".

BadLad · 05/11/2019 23:05

"cray cray"

Sparklingbrook · 05/11/2019 23:06

Hello ladies..
Hello mummies..
Name changed for this..
Haven't read the thread but...

Everydaylife · 05/11/2019 23:06

Picky bits or picky tea.

I hate it but fortunately I have never heard anyone in real life say it.

rylanpop · 05/11/2019 23:07

I don't really have anything to add to this post but just wanted to let you all know I've had a right good giggle at it! 😂 some of them actually do bother me although I've not particularly seen any or took offence.

The only notable thing that does bother me is "LTB"
