Words that I see on MN that make my teeth itch....

For some reason, since being on MN I have developed an irrational hatred towards certain words that are overused on here....namely, "tat" and "snacks" and I don't know why, because they are words I've used in the past! Now, ugh.

And also, even though I've used it in the title, I hate the phrase "makes my teeth itch" it's almost as bad as "boils my piss".

Does anyone else have words that MN have put them off using? Or am I just a grumpy old unreasonable bag?

Posters who refer to any kind of "brigade." "Oh the 'breast is best brigade' are here" or "Of course, the organic lentil weaving brigade will be along in a minute..." Any kind of brigade basically.

It just sounds so narrow-minded and unenlightened.

I have loads!

Hubby - its in the same line as ‘bubba’ for baby yet nobody talks about their ‘bubba’ or do the same people say bubba. Sweet Jesus!

Kiddie (makes me think of paedophiles
‘Cheeky’ as in an cheeky glass of wine or more usually people who use the word have a ‘cheeky glass of fizz’ (fizzy wine/cheap Prosecco presumably because people who drink champagne regularly hopefully don’t refer to it as cheeky).

Not on MN but I had another one today: "we could jump on a call".

I don't know why it irritates me so much, but whats wrong with "I could phone you to discuss", or "we could have a chat on the phone"?

Nom nom - I loathe this expression.
Also kids for children. Kids are baby goats.

'Is this really the hill you want to die on' - have seen it on 2 posts today and it really grates on my nerves.

Boobing ! Why? I'm going to boob the baby, how about I'm going to feed baby.

RowenaMud · 10/11/2019 20:06

Yes nom nom is hideous!

havingtochangeusernameagain · 11/11/2019 09:26

Totally agree, also dislike "nom nom" and "gifted".

Lots, but as you ask OP “make my teeth itch” grinds my gears Grin
