Baylis & Harding is shit isn't it?

It's all I see in the shops, beautifully packaged and expensive sets. However having sampled them I am always left underwhelmed.

The bottles look like they've been made as cheaply as possible. They buckle the moment you've opened them.
The fragrances are so minor as to be virtually unnoticeable.
Same with the creams and body lotions.
They always seem all style and no substance.

Or am I being unreasonable?

As an aside they are among the most donated unused items our charity gets for raffles. So they do have a use Grin

I think you can safely assume that any of the sort of brands that come in a set in the 3 for 2 Christmas gifts aisle at Boots are crap. It's not exactly a hot take, OP - all of that stuff is made as cheaply as possible, wrapped up to look fancy, and then given an artificially expensive price so you think you're getting a deal when it's "marked down" to a cheaper but still artificially expensive price.
Congrats on figuring out the obvious!

@RiotAtTheRodeo

Why would someone resurrect a zombie thread about cheap soap?
No idea, unless they work for the cheap soap company?

ZOMBIEEE

FangsForTheMemory · 22/09/2021 13:11

Wow, @Wroxie, who pissed on your chips today?

ArabellaScott · 22/09/2021 13:11

YANBU, but also Molton Brown is bloody awful. Just ordered some recently thinking it must be nice - jesus. So overpowering! Like a new car air freshener. Far too much scent.

FirewomanSam · 22/09/2021 13:13

I love their apple blossom hand sanitiser, it’s the only one that doesn’t smell like neat tequila to me!

HumousWhereTheHeartIs · 22/09/2021 13:15

I read once that Bayliss and Harding are a family owned British business so, if that is the case, I'm more forgiving of them. But they are the prosecco of the toiletry world.

duckiemonster · 22/09/2021 13:16

I quite like one of the handwashes and buy it now and again, but wouldn't use any of the other stuff. And any I get gifted goes straight to the charity shop (I'm looking at you here MIL)

Lambrini, more like.

@Lmaoplzstfu

To be honest tho everywhere else i look there is nothing but positive reviews where as this dodgy looking website has multiple threads that are exactly the same full of weird people banging on about how bad it is and how good molton brown is crazy 😂
Zombie thread
BrownCurlsAmberEyes · 22/09/2021 13:20

I have no idea why Molton Brown is considered so great

Me neither. B&H gets flack on here for being cheap to buy and a low quality product. MB deserves the ire for being more expensive to buy but still a low quality product.

At least B&H price accordingly. MB just rip you off (imho Grin)

JudgeJ · 22/09/2021 13:21

@DeepaBeesKit

Its crap. It's designed to look "posh" for people who want to spend more than nothing but not loads.
It's great for weeding out the pretentious too! Someone I know once refilled MB bottles with BH and was constantly complimented about her cloakroom toiletries, even told they were so superior to cheap versions.
godmum56 · 22/09/2021 13:21

I can't use it, it makes my skin dry and itchy

Islamorada · 22/09/2021 13:21

It is not expensive. You get what you pay.

I was quite glad of my cheap multibuy B&H last year when there was a handwash crisis

Firenight · 22/09/2021 13:29

The liquid hand soap is fine. Cheap. Big bottle. Easy to refill with Carex.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/09/2021 13:30

@AmmarettoSours

i always ask dp for a bayliss and harding set for xmas Blush runs for cover
I don't mind it at all either. Molton Brown isn't worth the money anyway. I usually buy the Aldi dupe
YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 22/09/2021 13:30

Cheap and nasty stuff. It brings me out in rashes so I avoid it like the plague!

RiotAtTheRodeo · 22/09/2021 13:32

Paraffin candles also leech soot and chemicals into the air, I can’t imagine paying £60 to worsen my asthma.

I was surprised to find that Diptyque candles are made from the cheapest paraffin wax. £50 for a paraffin wax candle. No thank you very much.
