I’m so fed up with all this vegan wankery

To all you actual vegans, amazing, I wish you a long and happy life.

I am just so fed up with veganism taking over the world, when I have yet to come across an actual one. *edited to say that some places in the world don’t have a choice

Restaurants falling over themselves with vegan menus offering fake meat and plastic cheese.

Veganuary - people just going to the supermarket and buying fake meat, rather than actually trying to eat differently.

People eating ‘vegan food’. Just eat an apple, or a carrot with houmous or any other naturally occurring food that an animal hasn’t produced. It’s not hard.

And I can’t even begin with all the plant based twattery. Many people have been quietly eating less or no meat, fish, eggs & dairy for many years and have had no need to pontificate about it.

I know I am probably being unreasonable but I just need to say it.

YABU. My kids are allergic to dairy and eggs and it's great for them that so many places now offer vegan options. Last night they had Hunter's chicken in a restaurant with vegan cheese and vegan coleslaw and vegan ice cream for dessert. Up until recently fruit salad quite often was the only option for dessert, which isn't great for a child when everyone else is having something nicer.

You can now finally buy cake in a supermarket that they can eat thanks to the increase in popularity of veganism.

“I only know one vegan. She lives on chips. Oh and fake chicken nuggets”

So?

SmoothLawAbider · 01/10/2019 15:13

I know a few omnivores. One lives on chips. Oh and chicken nuggets!

coatlessinspokane · 01/10/2019 15:18

Jeez. Vegans are to be admired, not mocked.

They’re not harming anyone. Meat eaters are.

So really vegans shouldn’t have to tiptoe apologetically around meat eaters. It should be the other way round.

Why is it considered cool to be a meat eater but snowflake to be vegan? I know most people eat meat and it’s natural but it’s not something to boast about.

SmoothLawAbider · 01/10/2019 15:21

If anyone's a "snowflake". it's the people whining about others choosing to eat certain foods, restaurants choosing to offer certain foods, and people making burgers out of plants. "Wah wah they called it a sausage but it's made of vegetables!". Jesus.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/10/2019 15:21

I don’t really mind what people eat as long as they don’t try to make me try something or comment on what I eat. Maybe i would comment if they were eating something alive. Monkey, dog, cat? Maybe.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/10/2019 15:22

I just had lunch at a conference. Meat, fish or vegan. It’s defiantly becoming a trend here...

PurpleDaisies · 01/10/2019 15:22

The last conference I was at, the vegan option was a salad sandwich.

AryaStarkWolf · 01/10/2019 15:23

Derp down people know that intensive farming and the meat industry is not ethical but they do the osyrich thing.
Meat does taste good but the way it's produced is crap.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/10/2019 15:31

My lunch was a place if ‘roast’ veggies which weren’t really (very soft chunks of root veg) and were sitting in oil, with some pita bread. There was supposedly rosemary roast potatoes in there too but I didn’t taste any. I think they’re may have been raisins snuck in there.

I would have killed for a salad sandwich!

malificent7 · 01/10/2019 15:31

YANBU
When it's people's dietary choice - cool. When it has turned into holier than thou fad - eww!

beestripey · 01/10/2019 15:38

I've said this before, but my main objection to the fad of being vegan (and some existing vegans) is that many will buy processed, factory made meat replacements, and buy plastic goods instead of leather which do not biodegrade thus adding to the toll on the environment, and killing animals by destroying and polluting their habitats!

Better I think to eat meat that is local, organic, ethically and humanely raised, from animals who are killed humanely and close to home, and to support/force the leather industry in converting to greener solutions such as vegetable tanning that don't use chromium etc.

And to eat seasonal food that grown locally because it is suited to the local climate and soil conditions, not import food from around the globe because it is fashionable or more fun.

It is possible to do this and be vegetarian/vegan and if people do that then I am supportive of that (non-plastic shoes is must though)

But this trend is just big business is just cashing in on this fad - its greenwashing, not truly green.

BertrandRussell · 01/10/2019 15:42

But vegans can be vegans for all sorts of reasons. Environmental is one. Not wanting to eat fluffy bunnies is anther. Why do they have to have reasons that you approve of?

berlinbabylon · 01/10/2019 15:48

beestripey you have expressed more eloquently than I would have done, exactly what I came on here to say!

AryaStarkWolf · 01/10/2019 15:51

Basically make sure vegans can't pass the impossibly high standards I hold them to so I can call them hypocrites and I don't have to feel bad about the slaughtered animals I eat

MargoLovebutter · 01/10/2019 15:53

DS has recently turned vegan for complex health reasons and you'd think he was telling everyone he'd developed a penchant for devil worshipping by the responses he gets.

He never brings it up himself, but when he chooses the vegan option whilst eating out, or someone asks him why he's eating quorn he explains he's gone vegan and is amazed by how rabid the 'meat eaters' seem to be.

He's not asking anyone else to be vegan he'd just like everyone to shut the fuck up about his own food choices!

thisnamechanger · 01/10/2019 15:54

AryaStarkWolf I think you might be onto something.

HairyToity · 01/10/2019 15:56

Yanbu. Although I'm sure most vegans are lovely people.

FatArse123 · 01/10/2019 15:58

YABU and what a pointless post. Just go to the meat aisle, if that's what you want to eat.

RuffleCrow · 01/10/2019 16:03

Yes and some people don't like the idea of literally eating shit (unavoidable when eating meat, sorry to say)

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 01/10/2019 16:04

I once had the misfortune of working with someone who on a daily basis asked me all sorts of hypothetical questions involving increasingly bizarre situations to try and 'catch me out'...he even said 'one day I'll get you'. I could never figure out quite why it bothered him so much as I never, ever preached. Then he got sacked so I never did get to the bottom of it.

IAmALazyArse · 01/10/2019 16:07

What do you think is used as one of the best fertilisers for veg😂 My plants are the happiest when fed a proper manure

RuffleCrow · 01/10/2019 16:25

Big difference between properly rotted manure and shit straight from a corpse. Besides you can wash and scrub veg.
