To ask if a Rosaline is a terrible name?

DH and I had settled for Rosaline with nickname Rosie for bump and I know that everyone says to keep the baby’s name secret until it’s here (oh how I wish I’d listened) but I mistakenly gave into my mum’s pestering and gave her the name to which she made a face which led to me making more mistakes and asking some friends what they thought and had various negative responses with old cat lady being one of them. We thought Rosaline was a pretty, uncommon but not unknown name- are we wrong?

Reminds me of a meme I saw recently:
What would Juliet be without her Romeo?
Alive.

I think it's lovely.

NoSauce · 26/09/2019 11:59

I thought it was pronounced Roz-a-leen!

Thank you for all the nice responses. I understand that of course not everyone will like the name but am glad to have some reassuring responses

It's a name that manages to sound pretty, intelligent and strong all at the time. I love it!

How are you pn it? Roz or Rose, and lean or line?

I've heard Rosa - Lean, sorry don't know the correct spelling but it was said like that.

Been singing Thin Lizzy since I read this thread title.

Mummybares · 26/09/2019 17:51

Its nice

Rachelover60 · 26/09/2019 17:53

Rosaline is a very pretty name as are Rosamunde, Rosalee and Rosemary

EagleVisionSquirrelWork · 26/09/2019 17:55

Beautiful Shakespearean name. Pronounced Rozza-lyne by the purists (including me). Ignore the naysayers. Everyone's got an opinion but it's your baby. Congratulations, hope all goes well.

LatteLady · 26/09/2019 17:55

I am a Rosaleen shortened to Ros. Most romantic thing my mother did naming after a poem Oh my Dark Rosaleen or Roisin a Dubh.

And no, I am not an elderly Irish granny as someone suggested up thread

butterry · 26/09/2019 18:00

I think people won't know how to pronounce it or think you said Rosalind. I prefer Rosalie or Rosalina

Ringdonna · 26/09/2019 18:04

Too much like vaseline
