To ask if a Rosaline is a terrible name?

DH and I had settled for Rosaline with nickname Rosie for bump and I know that everyone says to keep the baby’s name secret until it’s here (oh how I wish I’d listened) but I mistakenly gave into my mum’s pestering and gave her the name to which she made a face which led to me making more mistakes and asking some friends what they thought and had various negative responses with old cat lady being one of them. We thought Rosaline was a pretty, uncommon but not unknown name- are we wrong?

I've not heard Rosalind before but love the name Rosalie.
People will get used to whatever name you chose

EMacCoffee · 25/09/2019 22:44

I like it, I especially like the nickname Rosie.

Devonishome1 · 25/09/2019 22:44

I love the name Rosie

ChocChocButtons · 25/09/2019 22:45

I think it’s a pretty name.

Lolwhat · 25/09/2019 22:45

I prefer it with a Y but it’s nice

SilverChime · 25/09/2019 22:45

Makes me think of Shakespeare. I like it.

EMacCoffee · 25/09/2019 22:47

A PP mentioned Rosanna - I love that as well. I also like Rose.

KiaraN83 · 25/09/2019 22:49

I’ve always loved the name Rosie, it’s my Dds name!
We actually just liked Rosie on its own so that’s actually her full name on her birth certificate. But we were also close to choosing Rosaline, I think it’s a beautiful name and will suit her through all stages of life

EMacCoffee · 25/09/2019 22:50

Sorry for multiple posts but I've never heard the name Rosalie before, how would that be pronounced?

superram · 25/09/2019 22:52

I would pronounce it Rosa line. I’m assuming you would pronounce it Rosa Lynn. I don’t like either but Rosie is ok if a little twee.

I like it, and the nicknames that go with it.
Some people may think it has connotations with the rose line stories/myths... would that bother you? ( not so much of an issue now that Da Vinci Code mania is passed)

BrownStripePJ · 25/09/2019 22:56

I dont think it's nice. Sorry

taytosandwich · 25/09/2019 22:57

People do that no matter what name you have picked. I like it. I also like Rosalie.

BlueMoonRising · 25/09/2019 22:58

Rosalind's a fucking nightmare.

I quite like all of the Rosie based names mentioned on this thread though. You do you, and don't worry about what others think.

taytosandwich · 25/09/2019 22:58

@EMacCoffee Rosa-Lee. Like the Thin Lizzy song Smile

Jamhandprints · 25/09/2019 23:01

@EMacCoffee, Rosalie is pronounced Rosie-Lee like a cuppa or the stereotypical gypsy.

DonKeyshot · 25/09/2019 23:02

I'm not keen on the name Rosaline as it could so easily become Rosaleen which I don't like at all. Perhaps Rosalyn would be a good compromise but out of all the 'Ros' or 'Rose' names my preference is Rosalind which I think is a beautiful name for a child and the adult they'll become.

Jamhandprints · 25/09/2019 23:04

Rosaline:
Rosa-line
Rosa-Lynn
Rosa-Leen
Rozza-line
Rozza-Lynn
or
Rozza-Leen
?

FrownPrincess · 25/09/2019 23:04

A pretty name, and uncommon. And I love the nn Rosie.

No name gets universal approval, and your DM will soon get used to it.

intermittentfasting · 25/09/2019 23:06

Its nice (not keen on Rosie though)

I prefer Rosalie nn Rosa

Northernlurker · 25/09/2019 23:07

I've got a Rosalind, nn Rozzi. Also a Miranda and a Beatrice. Shakespearean women all!

Leeds2 · 25/09/2019 23:08

Wouldn't be my choice by a long way, but please don't let your family and friends put you off a name you and DH love. It is none of their business! And they will absolutely love her from the outset, whatever she is called.

Clitoria · 25/09/2019 23:09

Yeah, what jam said, how’s it pronounced? I only know of a ‘rose-leen’ IRL, does your choice have a ‘line’ sound at the second half?

Blackadderspants · 25/09/2019 23:09

I think it is a lovely name
