I suppose AIBU to put this here...but it IS the busiest area. I just thought...I'd see if there were any other MNrs in Oz who'd like a little chat thread together?

If Morrison just stopped waffling and actually said Clear helpful advice would be a huge fucking help. (I’m watching his address and it’s so far just noise with very little actually said.

BelleharePenguin09 · 24/03/2020 10:28

Hey Aussies! 👍🏻

Mypathtriedtokillme · 24/03/2020 10:38

He’s talked and literally said 3,000 words without actually saying anything...

Midnight tomorrow night:
Cafes shut, no food courts in shopping centres (but you know totally leave those centres open)...
No beauticians but hairdressing is totally ok, no pubs and clubs, wedding and funerals limited sizes,
Having a smug face when talking about funerals is inappropriate.

Totally safe to send your kids to schools even though 3 premiers are asking you to please don’t send them to schools...

Why is he clinging so desperately to keeping schools open? Because everyone who has a job is essential...

Mypathtriedtokillme · 24/03/2020 10:41

It’s like lesson to one of those “please don’t do that my darling, your making mummy sad” parents at the park when little Sharalander is being a holy terror

Mypathtriedtokillme · 24/03/2020 10:42

Listening...

aussieaussieaussieoioioi · 24/03/2020 10:45

Scomo is tied up with the banks. Too much debt in our country. The banks have loaned and loaned and people are up to their eye balls. He's more worried about keeping the economy going than keeping us alive.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 24/03/2020 10:49

Cause you know pushing our health system to collapse sooner rather than later is important.
Wtf is wrong with his messaging.

LangSpartacusCleg · 24/03/2020 10:56

For a PM, he is not a good public speaker.

There was too much waffle and I think he was adlibbing periodically.

But in terms of the restrictions, there isn’t a substantial change that I can tell. Adding things piecemeal every few days could come back and bite him on the ass if he has to keep doing that.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 24/03/2020 11:01

I think there unclear messaging is going to bite all of us in the arse and kill a heap of people.

WindyRose · 24/03/2020 11:43

Maybe we should all donate and buy Jacinda a one-way ticket.

That was a shockingly bad press conference. Waffly, smug, smirking and truculent.
Why is he so obsessed with keeping schools open?

echt · 24/03/2020 20:41

And why hairdressers to be kept open??? in what world are they an essential service?

Disclaimer: says she who hasn't been to a hairdresser in years.

mbosnz · 24/03/2020 20:49

As a Kiwi with much Aussie whanau, in the UK, I share so many of your frustrations.

But much love from the 'bloody Kiwis' '- as said to me by a pretty bloody awesome Aussie similarly marooned over here, last week.

WindyRose · 24/03/2020 21:35

echt I fail to see how a hairdresser is an essential service too, but the bit that got me is you can only be at the hairdresser's for no longer than 30 minutes!

Also agree that doesn't come across in a good light. Like him or not, Malcolm Turnbull had a believable persona and I'm sure would have handled this situation better. Politics should be put aside for now and all should work for the good of the country....too simple??? seems so!

Mypathtriedtokillme · 24/03/2020 21:50

Why can’t the P.M, the health minister or chief medical officer get there points across clearly and succinctly?

Both state premiers speak clearly and to the point.
The auslan interpreters are doing a better job of getting the point across than federal.

groovergirl · 24/03/2020 23:27

The auslan interpreters are doing a better job of getting the point across than federal. I've noticed this too. Those interpreters cut through the crap.

Just heard Vic Premier Dan Andrews on the ABC. He clarified Scomo's garble, told us Vic was now in Stage 2 of the lockdown and warned us to prepare for Stage 3 -- tho he admitted he didn't yet know what that might involve.

Time for us all to snuggle in, write the next War And Peace and crochet ourselves a slingshot to another planet. But first I might nick out for my final takeaway cappuccino. Brew to youse all.

echt · 25/03/2020 03:56

While time permitted (my non-working day and "stay at home" not applying to food) I went specialty food shopping in Clayton VIC, i.e SE Asian and Indian foods. Very few people. Loads of food. No toilet paper.

On the other hand I snagged two face masks, having not seen any anywhere for ages. I'm not ill, but live on my own want to be prepared.😷

A trip to Bunnings located the veggie seeds that were cleared out big time on the weekend. I'm suddenly the focus of envy for having veggie beds in my back garden: strawberries, rocket, chillies, herbs, chard, warrigal greens, obscenely elongated and massive courgettes, and loads of Turk's Turban pumpkins. I foresee lots of pesto making that I won't be able to give away. Ditto courgette chutney.

DroppedBoxxedRuth · 25/03/2020 04:07

I went shopping this morning and pretty much got everything I wanted (including toilet paper 🤯)

But I was surprised at how I seemed to be the only one doing a weekly shop. Most people had a few items or a busket, not trolleys.

I don't want to come back out again until next week but didn't need to panic buy anything. It was actually good leaving DC with dh while I did it!

The school thing is weird. Dd1 school has closed but dd2 is still expected at nursery.

I called to withdraw her as it's likely my contract role will cease soon and they said in order to receive the full funding for every day she's missed since being there, that dd2 needs to come in on her last day (next week)

FFS, how is it right to send our DC in when everything bar essential work is being shutdown 😡

Aussiegirl123456 · 25/03/2020 05:00

I'm keeping my children home. The only reason I can see him wanting to keep the schools open is to use the children to contract the virus for the country to obtain herd immunity. Likely assuming that as children have little, if any, symptoms, then all will be good. But what if any of those children have undetected underlying health conditions that could cause complications?
We need to keep our children home. We need to stay home. Keep schools open for essential worker's children only.

Anyway, could be wrong but that's my belief.

echt · 26/03/2020 08:39

I've noticed a change in the use of the off-leash oval where it's usually footy/training and dog walkers. The former is now off and the place teems with people who don't get its use, e.g. some try to re-create a personal gym with weights, mats, bags of stuff, lying on the ground stretching and rolling and then getting the arse when a dog runs over to investigate/ a football/frisbee goes flying by.

Ditto families with tiny babies lying on the grass and similarly getting the arse. And that's with a playground with benches and tables right next to where they are.

It does my head in as almost all open green spaces/beaches don't allow dogs off-lead (and I'm not disputing it) yet the numpties insist on putting themselves where they will get pissed off by footy players and dogs.

LangSpartacusCleg · 27/03/2020 04:16

I’ve just seen the latest press conference. Still not a brilliant speaker but he is talking sense. The Barre gaffe was not well handled.

In other news, I am now wondering if I have Covid19. I have a respiratory infection which does not seem serious but having had a telephone call with my doctor, I apparently don’t meet the testing criteria. The treatment would likely be the same anyway but wider testing would provide a better insight into Corona.

echt · 27/03/2020 05:26

Hope all proves good, Lang

I've had a sore throat and tight chest for two weeks now. Not enough not be at work, but like many 60+ folk, colds are less usual so I paid little attention. Oddly, it markedly improved once my school was closed.Wink

Hi all, I’m in Melbourne, moved from London late last year but I’m Aussie. Glad to be here with family and friends although stressed about finding a job... we don’t have a stockpile or veggie patch etc as we bought a house, are in the process of unpacking our things and no money to put in veggies etc until I find work which is definitely adding to my stress! It’s reassuring how quiet it is around where we are though.

echt · 27/03/2020 07:59

Welcome to Melbourne, timeisnotaline. It's an anxious time, and hope your unpacking goes well.

As it happens, my excess pesto has been welcomed by neighbours, so I'm relieved.

timeisnotaline · 27/03/2020 09:59

Thanks echt! Whereabouts are you? I’m eastern suburbs. It was a simply beautiful day today!
