Here and hoping for a part in Joey's next -interminable- play.

StarKazan · 19/09/2019 21:22

Fretwork...they must be doing fretwork for a fayre

QuaterMiss · 19/09/2019 21:47

Jolly good. Cake

I’ll be dropping in through the gate in the hedge now and again.

Snarkerina · 19/09/2019 21:58

Please can I have the link to the Dropbox?

Avid Chalet School fan when I was younger, and still have about 35 books. I’ve binge read both threads today Grin

PhilSwagielka · 19/09/2019 22:01

i'm currently reading Fifth Form at St Clare's and am struck by how un-CS-like the girls are. Midnight feasts! Laughing at the crazy French teacher who locks everyone in cupboards! Mirabel the evil jock! Poor little Jane being manipulated into being Angela's slave! Alison and Anne-Marie's lesbian crushes on the pretentious English teacher!

CarrotVan · 19/09/2019 22:05

I am still reading through and amazingly someone has left the staff for reasons other than marriage to a doctor!!!

Miss Slater has left for career advancement and general lack of interest in living in Foreign Parts

WonderWomansSpin · 19/09/2019 22:06

My two abiding memories of the Chalet School are that I need to see the passion play. And that I need to make sure when I peel potatoes the width of the peelings is as thin as possible.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 19/09/2019 22:06

Could I have drop box link too please?

QuaterMiss · 19/09/2019 22:07

Seriously? There must be a Guide badge for that!

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 19/09/2019 22:22

Gosh I hope I’m not late - I came by train and that awful soft coal made me so dirty I had to dash to the Splasheries. Wouldn’t want to risk the wrath of Matey! So, what’s the hanes?

TheMustressMhor · 19/09/2019 22:27

There must be a Guide badge for that

I always think it's odd that EBD was so pro-Guides in many of her books but gave us so many storylines of the CS feuds in others.

She also failed to mention Guiding in many books.

I loved the fact that the girls of St. Scholastika's were jealous of the CS for having Guides.

Personally I hated Guides. I never saw the point of them.

Snarkerina · 19/09/2019 22:34

Seriously? There must be a Guide badge for that!

It was done either side of the most non-EBD approved behaviour of buying a car without the finances or advice of a male relative Shock

LaurieMarlow · 19/09/2019 22:44

I think she lost interest in stuff and picked up new fads quite quickly.

When does the guiding stuff get phased out again? After Tirol?

See also gardening. Which is a feature of the UK books, then gets forgotten.

And she gets into lacrosse in a big way in the mid to late Swiss stories.

And then motorboats Grin

Witchend · 19/09/2019 22:47

Featherbeds of whipped cream, please !

TheMustressMhor · 19/09/2019 22:51

I think she lost interest in stuff and picked up new fads quite quickly.

Such as the Ku Klux Klan.

Joey and Co were very interested in the KKK when they were having their monumental feud with St. Sscholastika's.

They seemed to disregard the fact that this might be anti-Guide philosophy though.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 19/09/2019 22:52

I do hope I've got time to settle into my dainty cubicle before Abendessen (and that there's balls of potatoes in butter).

JassyRadlett · 19/09/2019 22:59

And that I need to make sure when I peel potatoes the width of the peelings is as thin as possible.

I invariably feel horribly guilty when peeling potatoes as a result of Frau Mieders.

Lonelykettleshed · 19/09/2019 23:04

I had a trying journey to get here, had to run away from my guardian just before our ship set sail to 'foreign parts'. I may need some special milk and a week in san to calm down.

TheMustressMhor · 19/09/2019 23:11

I think I must have gone to the Wrong Chalet School as we only spoke Ancient Greek on alternate Thursdays in months which didn't have an X in their spelling.

Parker231 · 20/09/2019 07:09

Thanks for the new page. Planning on reading Highland Twins next - anything special to look out for?

burnoutbabe · 20/09/2019 07:31

I am
Up to no 4, head girl in my Dropbox re read. And waiting for joey (13?) to meet future husband jack. He had only been mentioned once now as new doctor for dr jem, brother of s teacher. Though she must of met him before as she stays with miss maynard often in holidays and mrs maynard (assume her future mil). Is there much mention of miss maynard later on, did she marry and have many kids?

MollyButton · 20/09/2019 07:37

There is a lot of Miss Maynard then she gets married and shipped off to "foreign", maybe Singapore - I think somehow she avoided the occupation?

QuaterMiss · 20/09/2019 07:38

It’s glorious Parker, one of the very best. Shares with Goes To It a really strong depiction of the domestic and psychological impact of the war on women and girls left to carry on, constantly longing for their menfolk, always on high alert, worrying about their friends, negotiating a million interruptions and inconveniences in daily life.

To look out for? A dangerously polite man.

Papergirl1968 · 20/09/2019 08:12

Look out for the woo, Parker - in a most un Chalet School manner, one of the twins has “the sight.”
Burnout I don’t remember any mention of the Maynards’ parents. I thought they’d died.
