To expect chocolate to taste LIKE CHOCOLATE.

Just bit into a Twix, yes yes I know it’s not real chocolate but it’s friggin vile! I used to really enjoy a twix, nibble around the edges before chomping through the lovely caramel bit. It’s just a flavourless strange oily slick stick I could cry out of frustration. Why can’t they bloody leave things alone, I liked the lidl ones at one point then found them too sweet! So annoyed.

gave up choc and sweets due to diabetic diagnoses, i'm not missing anything it seems, so many things have changed favour over the years.
i think they use palm oil in chocolate now to keep 'prices down'. that's joke in itself.

from123toabc · 12/09/2019 14:07

oh no! don't say they've changed the recipe. Twix are my favourite but i haven't had one in a while...just FYI the Aldi version are disgusting

MightyMunki · 12/09/2019 14:28

I think you should console yourself with a twix McFlurry Grin

tommycockles · 12/09/2019 14:39

Chocolate always tastes really waxy these days.
It's so sad.

MrsA2015 · 12/09/2019 14:57

@MightyMunki but are they good

Used to be a chocolate accountant - all companies have been reducing the amount of cocoa in their products for many years now since prices increased , just more fat and sugar instead

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 12/09/2019 15:39

I didn’t don’t finish a KitKat chunky the other day.

In the bin it went, half eaten.

That’s unheard off for me.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 12/09/2019 15:40

Mallowmarshmallow · 12/09/2019 15:41

It's so sad, isn't it? I've done a thorough piece of market research and can confirm no chocolate tastes like chocolate any more. Green and blacks is close...hotel chocolat is crap. There's just no point eating it any more.... Sad

MsVestibule · 12/09/2019 15:45

Hotel Chocolat chocolate is not crap! It has quite a high cocoa content. I wonder if your taste buds have just changed over the years?

BloodyDisgrace · 12/09/2019 15:46

don't buy milk chocolate them. It's all sickly sweet shit, not a proper chocolate. Get dark instead

Delatron · 12/09/2019 15:49

I think it’s because they started adding palm
oil. Good thing is I don’t buy Cadbury’s chocolate anymore, I can’t eat the Rose’s chocolate at Christmas. Tastes vile. Such a shame. Not a chocolate addict anymore though!

I buy one bar of good dark chocolate and have a few pieces of that.

Davros · 12/09/2019 15:59

There are a few products like some cakes, milkshakes that you wouldn't know were supposed to be chocolate if you shut your eyes. Some companies/producers/customers have forgotten what chocolate tastes like!

diddlesticks · 12/09/2019 16:00

There's a brand called Tony's it's very very nice.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 12/09/2019 16:02

It's the palm oil - makes it taste weird and greasy. Lidl do a milk / dark choc bar that isn't oily, and it tastes like chocolate used to. Cadbury's is just nasty now.

EerieSilence · 12/09/2019 16:05

Rolo caramel candies are totally vile and disgusting. The so-called chocolate tastes like crap. Twix and Lion bar the same. I used to love them but they are just awful now.

user1497207191 · 12/09/2019 16:05

Cadbury Twirl and flake are still the old recipe (or as close to it as any of the other Cadbury crap). They're the only chocolate I buy these days. Sad really, I used to eat a lot.

missbattenburg · 12/09/2019 16:08

Definitely switch to Tony's. Slavery free and tastes like chocolate.

Cadbury's in finished in this house which is a shame as we loved dairy milk and buttons.

TheMustressMhor · 12/09/2019 16:13

I would treat the recommendations to buy Tony's Very Expensive Chocolate with great caution.

After reading a thread on here about it I bought some despite the fact that it cost fourteen quid.

It was okay. Not better than other chocolate - just okay.

missbattenburg · 12/09/2019 16:15

Fourteen quid!! I just bought a big bar for £2.75.

LaurieMarlow · 12/09/2019 16:17

I don’t rate Hotel Chocolat either. It’s not all about the cocoa content.

I like G&Bs, Butlers (Ireland), valrhona.

I’ll try Tony’s. I’ve seen it here at vast expense. Does Tesco UK stock it?

LaurieMarlow · 12/09/2019 16:18

Fourteen quid

Yeah I’ve seen it at similar prices in ROI.

I just bought a big bar for £2.75.

Where?

missbattenburg · 12/09/2019 16:18

Waitrose.

TheMustressMhor · 12/09/2019 16:19

Where did you get a big bar for £2.75 missbattenburg?

I had to get mine online as I live in the middle of nowhere and none of the supermarkets deliver to us.

I got a big bar of salted caramel and shared it with DD. We enjoyed it but the fact that it wasn't absolutely amazing, that it cost so much and that it took ten weeks to arrive from ?Amsterdam put me right off.

On the bright side - NDN gave me a box of After Eights yesterday as I did her a small favour and they weren't bad at all.

Free chocolate is the way to go these days.

missbattenburg · 12/09/2019 16:20

Also saw it in Sainsbury's for similar
