To expect chocolate to taste LIKE CHOCOLATE.

Just bit into a Twix, yes yes I know it’s not real chocolate but it’s friggin vile! I used to really enjoy a twix, nibble around the edges before chomping through the lovely caramel bit. It’s just a flavourless strange oily slick stick I could cry out of frustration. Why can’t they bloody leave things alone, I liked the lidl ones at one point then found them too sweet! So annoyed.

Duh.

The nearest Waitrose to us is 110 miles away in Glasgow.

It would cost fourteen quid in petrol to get there and back and I would never be able to persuade DH to do a seven hour round trip just for a bar of chocolate.

TheMustressMhor · 12/09/2019 16:21

Sainsbury's is also in Glasgow...

mamansnet · 12/09/2019 16:23

Cadbury's tastes crap these days. I'm all about the Lindt 90%. A couple of squares of that and I don't need any more for the rest of the day! And it tastes so gooooooood

Trewser · 12/09/2019 16:25

I thought Tony's was exactly the same as Galaxy.

Trewser · 12/09/2019 16:26

Was a huge disappointment.

Divine chocolate used to be really good, my health food shop sells it.

Why did you marry this man!

HeavenOrSpace · 12/09/2019 16:44

Lindt is my go-to for nice chocolate that's sold everywhere. I still buy Cadbury's but mostly the ones that are more filling than anything (Double Decker etc). That's probably why they're coming out with all these Dairy Milk variations with random things added, because the actual chocolate tastes like shit.

LaurieMarlow · 12/09/2019 16:45

See I’m not a big fan of dark chocolate. I want good milk chocolate. Which is why I generally gravitate to G&B.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 12/09/2019 16:47

Hotel Chocolate is too sweet.

Lindt Excellence are good, and palm oil free.

MoltoAgitato · 12/09/2019 16:48

I like the Aldi chocolate.

My problem is not with plain slabs of chocolate (or flavoured chocolate), it’s with chocolate bars - Mars, Snickers, Bounty etc. They all taste like shit and it’s not like all the posh/still nice chocolate makers are putting out chocolate bars like those that I can buy at a petrol station.

Abraid2 · 12/09/2019 16:49

Waitrose own brand, the more expensive version, isn’t bad.

littlepeas · 12/09/2019 16:49

Cadbury’s is horrible now. I fancied some chocolate and found a creme egg from Easter in the cupboard - I had to throw it away!

Lindt is still good! Booja booja is fab too and vegan/dairy free.

LaurieMarlow · 12/09/2019 16:51

Does the Grown Up Chocolate Company still exist?

Londonmummy66 · 12/09/2019 16:56

This thread prompted me to order some more of my favourite chocolate that really does taste like proper chocolate - probably because it is still made in the same way. I buy it online from the monks at Caldey Island in Pembrokeshire. Yumm

RubyRubyRubyRubyAaaaah · 12/09/2019 17:00

Not rtfs but YABU, as everyone knows by now that most UK chocolate is shit since they changed the ingredients —made it cheap and vile—

Notable exceptions being the stuff from Aldi or expensive brands like Hotel Chocolat

PutyourtoponTrevor · 12/09/2019 17:00

£14???? You've been done, 2 pound something in Sainsbury for a large bar

fairislecable · 12/09/2019 17:03

Best flavour chocolate box is Lauden little tiles of chocolate with a cream centre the black currant is fantastic.

24hourshomeedderandcarer · 12/09/2019 17:05

ive find aldi chocolate range way more creamer than cadburys

i dont get my food in aldis(kids wont eat there) but i make a trip there just for the chocolate

DontCallMeShitley · 12/09/2019 17:06

Before you buy Green & Blacks take a look at the ingredients list online, most of them contain palm oil, and of course it is owned by Mondelez (Kraft). It is also very unpleasant to eat.

I gave up chocolate for a while, after the Lidl palm oil free became unbearably sweet, it had been a last resort as I find Lidl stuff to be poor quality and this confirmed it.

Then I found Tonys Chocolonely in Sainsburys, I can forgive the stupid pattern on it which means you can't break off a strip and end up with one huge bit in the middle and a lot of crumbs because it is actually EDIBLE.

WarshipWarrior · 12/09/2019 17:09

Tony's choc is so nice! Less than 3 quid in sainsburys I bought 3 flavours and they were all lush. No palm oil!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/09/2019 17:13

Nicest chocolate I've had in ages is the Co-op's own 85% cocoa stuff. It is properly delicious. Just FYI.

roses2 · 12/09/2019 17:23

Aldi version of Twix is far better than Twix ever was. Crunchy base, soft caramel and delicious chocolate coating. I had one last week it was delicious!

AnnonniMoose · 12/09/2019 17:27

Just about the only choc I eat nowadays is Tesco coffee chocolate bars. it's divine, and only £1!

AnnonniMoose · 12/09/2019 17:28

Coffee choc slabs, not bars!

yellowallpaper · 12/09/2019 17:57

Aldi and Lidl do lovely dark chocolate. Fair trade and high cocoa content
